>> ROLL CALL, PLEASE? >> KENNEDY?

AND I -- CAN I GET A SECOND? ANYONE OPPOSE? PLEASE SHOW IT PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. ALSO, THE APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES AUGUST 6TH 2024 SUBCOMMITTEE FOR THE YOUTH AMBASSADOR HAS EVERYONE HN OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW THOSE MINUTES? CAN I GET AN
[5. Public Comments]
OPPORTUNITY TO APPROVE THOSE? >> GOOD. PLEASE SIGNIFY BY SLAYING -- SAYING THE PUBLIC ON ANY NON-AGENDA ITEMS? OH, WOW. DO WE CALL
COMMISSIONERS PUBLIC? >> THE RECORD. I WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS YOU TONIGHT , COMMISSIONER, AND AS A RESIDENT OF THIS FINE CITY. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SERVICE AND YOUR ASSISTANCE TO ME IN BOTH OF THOSE CAPACITIES. I CAN ONLY SAY FROM MY HEART THAT WHAT YOU DO MATTERS AND WHAT YOU DO HAS HELPED ME TREMENDOUSLY THROUGHOUT THE YEARS, MAKING DECISIONS AND HELPING TO MOVE OUR CITY FORWARD. WITH ALL OF MY HEART, I THANK YOU VERY MUCH
[6. Comments by the Chair and Board]
FOR YOUR SERVICE. THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU. ANYONE ELSE? OKAY. WELL, WE WILL HAVE THE COMMENTS BY THE CHAIR AND THE BOARD AND IT IS FUNNY YOU WERE HERE BECAUSE MY ONLY COMMENT, I WILL READ, IS WITH MUCH SORROW THAT THE CITY APARTMENT WILL BE LOSING TWO AMAZING COMMISSIONERS IN PARKLAND, BOB MEYERSON AND KEN CUTLER. THEY WILL NO LONGER BE A PART OF THE CITY COMMISSIONERS FOR NOW. BOB AND KEN TRULY LOVE OUR CITY AND DEVOTED YEARS OF THEIR LIFE TO MAKE IT THAT MUCH BETTER. THEY WILL BE GREATLY MISSED, BUT DO NOT COUNT THEM OUT. THEY WILL DEFINITELY FIND A WAY TO BENEFIT OUR CITY. I THINK BETWEEN THE TWO OF THEM, THEY HAVE MORE AWARDS THEMSELVES AND THEN THEY EVER ACTUALLY HANDED OUT TO OTHERS AND THAT IS SIMPLY AMAZING. WITH THAT SAID, I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO CONGRATULATE OUR NEWEST MEMBERS OF OUR CITY COMMISSION. I THINK YOU KNOW BOTH OF THEM. OBVIOUSLY, DR. DEAL CANTOR BEN AND CINDY. THEY WILL BE SWORN IN ON NOVEMBER 18TH AT THE NEXT COMMISSION MEETING. THEY LOVE OUR CITY AND I AM CERTAIN THEY WILL WORK AMAZINGLY WITH OUR MAYOR, RICH WALKER, AND THE REST OF THE CITY AND THE REST OF THE CITY STAFF AND THE OTHER COMMISSIONERS. WITH THAT SAID, I WILL MOVE ON BECAUSE I KNOW WE HAVE A LOT OF THINGS TO COVER. ANYTHING TO ADD, RUPERT?
>> YES. I WOULD LIKE TO PERSONALLY THANK MAYOR CUTLER FOR HIS EFFORTS OVER THE YEAR. I DID READ A COPY OF YOUR BOOK AND I HOPE YOU'LL GO ON A BOOK TOUR, WHERE YOU CAN TELL US IN PERSON YOUR EXPERIENCES, ALONG WITH A HISTORY OF PARKLAND.
THANK YOU, COMMISSIONER CUTLER. >> I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU AS WELL. I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE FOR THE CITY. IT
HAS BEEN REMARKABLE. THANK YOU. >> GOOD AFTERNOON, EVERYBODY. I WOULD LIKE TO DISCLOSE THE FACT THAT I AM HERE BECAUSE OF MR. CUTLER. I MET HIM ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO AND WE HAVE A VERY NICE COFFEE AND HE INVITED ME TO COME AND DO SOMETHING FOR THE CITY, SO HERE I AM AND I AM STILL IN THE LEARNING PROCESS, BUT I WILL BE HERE MORE TIME. SO, I LOOK FORWARD. THANK YOU,
[00:05:05]
KEN. I LOOK FORWARD TO, YOU KNOW, DOING SOMETHING . A LITTLE BIT. THERE IS A HIGH EXPECTATION.>> THANK YOU FROM ARELLANO. HE HAS BEEN DOING AN AMAZING JOB.
JEFF? >> I REITERATE EVERYTHING HE SAID. I HAVE BEEN HERE 23 YEARS AND THIS COMMISSION, THIS GROUP OF MEMBERS HAS JUST BEEN AMAZING TO WATCH, TO SEE HOW THEY WORK TOGETHER AND IT REALLY SETS THE BAR FOR ALL THE MUNICIPALITIES IN BROWARD COUNTY. THANK YOU. WE WILL WORK WITH YOU IN THE FUTURE, ROB. WE ARE GOOD TO GO I JUST HAVE A COUPLE SMALL ANNOUNCEMENTS. YOU MIGHT NOTICE MY NEW COLOR WARDROBE. I THOUGHT I NEEDED SOME COLOR IN MY LIFE, SO THIS IS BASICALLY -- I AM MAGIC CAPACITOR FOR THE MEN WHO WEAR PINK FOR THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY. I AM PROUD TO REPORT WITH THE ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT FROM OUR MEMBERS UP HERE, I DID EXCEED MY GOAL AND I THINK THE COUNTY RAISE WELL OVER $100,000 FOR THE MEN IN PINK PART OF THE CAMPAIGN. IT WAS A GOOD THING.
I WOULD ENCOURAGE ANYBODY -- ALL YOU GUYS, BREAK OUT YOUR PINK. I THINK IT IS GOOD. ALSO, I SIGNED UP AND COMPLETED THE CERTIFICATION, WHICH IS THE COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM OFFERED THROUGH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AT -- IT IS THROUGH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, AT CORAL SPRINGS. A LOT OF GREAT INFORMATION. YOU PROBABLY KNOW ALL THIS STUFF FROM YOUR LAW ENFORCEMENT, BUT I WOULD ENCOURAGE -- YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MEMBER OR GO INTO THE SERVICE TO VOLUNTEER. IT TEACHES YOU A LOT OF STUFF ABOUT HOW TO HELP YOUR FAMILY, HOW TO HELP YOUR NEIGHBORS, IF ONE OF MY NEIGHBORS HEALS OVER, AT LEAST I WILL KNOW WHAT TO DO. THERE IS A LOT OF GOOD INFORMATION FROM FEMA. I JUST FINISHED MY NINE HOURS OF HOW TO ORGANIZE INCIDENTS , SO THAT YOU'RE NOT RUNNING AROUND SCREAMING. I WOULD ENCOURAGE ALL OF US, I THINK THAT'S A SOMETHING WHICH A TAKE AN AFTER ROLL IN, ALTHOUGH WITH OTHER WELL REPRESENTED. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE CITY . I DO NOT KNOW IF ANY OF YOU HAVE NOTICED, BUT MONTROSE PARK HAS A NEW AUTOMATED ANNOUNCEMENT AT THE END OF THE NIGHT. AT 9:45, A VERY ROMANTIC WOMAN'S VOICE COMES OVER THE SPEAKER AND I CAN HEAR IT FROM MY PATIO. ANNOUNCING THE PARK WILL BE CLOSING IN 15 MINUTES. THEN SHE COMES ON AT THE END AT 10:00 AND SAYS , YOU KNOW, THE PARK IS CLOSING. IT IS NICE. IT REALLY IS. I THINK IT IS A GOOD THING BECAUSE IT HELPS THEM CLEAR OUT THE PARK AND THE LIGHTS GO OUT SOON AFTER 10:00.
THANK YOU, CITY OF PARKLAND. >> HE KNOWS WHAT TIME TO GO TO
BED. 10:00, DON. SHERRY? >> IT HAS BEEN A WHILE SINCE WE HAVE MET AND A LOT HAS HAPPENED. I WILL REITERATE THE FIRE SENTIMENTS TO THE CITY OF PARKLAND COMMISSIONERS WHO HAVE MADE THE POSITIVE IMPACTS ON THE CITY. MR. KEN CUTLER AND BOB MAYERSON BOTH REACHED THEIR TERM LIMITS AND WILL SOON BE SERVING AS WHAT WE WILL CALL GUIDES ON THE SIDE . THEY ARE ALWAYS GOING TO BE PART OF THE LEADERSHIP HERE, NO DOUBT, AND THEY HAVE CERTAINLY MADE AN INFINITE DIFFERENCE AND THEY WILL HOPEFULLY BE THE GUIDE ON THE SIDE FOR THE NEW COMMISSIONERS, AND I HAVE THE HONOR OF ATTENDING THE FAREWELL AND THANK YOU SIR MONEY PRIOR TO THE LAST COMMISSIONER MEETING AND IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL TO HEAR THE GRATITUDE SPEECHES FOR THESE TWO ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE LEADERS. THE CITY WILL ALWAYS OWE A DEBT OF GRATITUDE TO THEM. THEY HAVE BIG SHOES TO FILL, BUT I HAVE NO DOUBT THEY WILL WORK HARD TO DO SO AND REPRESENT ALL OF THE RESIDENTS OF PARKLAND WELL.
ALSO, THERE HAVE BEEN SOME VERY WORTHY EVENTS BY PHILANTHROPIC AND OTHERWISE, AND OUR GREAT CITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FIRST FARMERS MARKET, WHICH WAS A VERY BIG SUCCESS AND WELL ATTENDED AND THE NOT MY DAUGHTER BREAST CANCER FUNDRAISER LUNCHEON AND FASHION SHOW, THE SOS VILLAGE RED BULL GALA, THE PARKLAND FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY AND MEMBERSHIP TO THE AND TOMORROW, THE PARKLAND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WILL HOLD A BREAKFAST IN THE MORNING, HONORING WORLD KINDNESS DAY AND THE MANY 501(C)(3) ANOTHER NONPROFIT CHAMBER MEMBERS. IT IS TRULY A BLESSING TO LIVE IN A CITY THAT LIFTS OTHERS. WHEN MY HUSBAND AND I DECIDED TO MOVE FROM THE CITY OF WESTON, WHERE WE LIVED FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND WE RAISED OUR CHILDREN IN JULY OF 2019, OUR YOUNG ADULT SONS ASKED US WHY WOULD YOU MOVE TO PARKLAND ? MY RESPONSE STILL HOLDS TRUE
[00:10:13]
TO THIS DAY. PARKLAND IS A COMMUNITY THAT CARES, A COMMUNITY WHERE PEOPLE COME TOGETHER TO HELP, TO FIGHT TO MAKE THINGS BETTER, TO TAKE A STAND FOR WHAT IS RIGHT AND GOOD, A PLACE WHERE NEIGHBORS HELP NEIGHBOS, NOT ONLY PHILANTHROPIC EVENTS BEING LIVING PROOF OF THIS, BUT EVEN THE SMALL DAY-TO-DAY THINGS SPEAK VOLUMES FOR THIS COMMUNITY. YOU PROBABLY CANNOT SEE THAT I HAVE A TORN LIGAMENT ON MY LEFT ANKLE, A TENNIS INJURY, AND WEARING A GIANT BOOT ON MY LEG. YESTERDAY , AT PUBLIX, TOTAL STRANGER AT THE PARKLAND, AND PUBLIX ASKED IF SHE COULD RETURN MY SHOPPING CART FOR ME WHEN SHE NOTICED THE BOOT ON MY LEG. THIS IS PARKLAND. I THINK THAT I SPEAK FOR ALL OF US HERE WHEN I SAY IT IS AN HONOR TO SERVE ON THIS COMMITTEE AND GIVE WHAT WE CAN TO HELP KEEP PARKLAND THE SPECIAL HOMETOWN IT IS TO ALLOF US. >> THANK YOU, SHERRY. KENDRA?
>> I ALSO WANT TO THANK KEN AND BOB. I'VE ONLY KNOWN THIS COMMISSION FOR A MONAD BECAUSE I HAVE ONLY LIVED THERE FOR FOUR YEARS, AND IT IS WEIRD TO ME TO THINK YOU WILL NOT BE ON IT BECAUSE YOU HAVE BEEN SUCH A GOOD INFLUENCE. I HAVE SO MUCH RESPECT FOR THE CITY COMMISSIONERS. EVERY TIME I TALK TO THEM, THEY ARE SO WARM AND THEY ARE REALLY THERE TO BE THERE FOR US AND I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR SERVICE, SO
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. >> I HAVE SOMETHING. I ALSO WANT TO PERSONALLY THANK YOU, NOT JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE HERE AND BOB IS NOT, BUT BECAUSE YOU HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE PERSONALLY SINCE THE DAY I MOVED HERE. THE FIRST TIME WE MET, WHICH WAS MY FIRST WEEK AS A PARKLAND OR, YOU RECRUITED ME TO THE PARKS AND FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY AND TO COME AND JUST LISTEN A COME TO A COMMISSION MEETING AND I THINK I WENT ALMOST EVERY SINGLE ONE FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS AND THEN THE PANDEMIC AND THEN AFTER FOR ANOTHER TWO YEARS, SO , AGAIN, MY COMMENTS STAND, BUT FROM MY HEART TO YOURS, I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE.
>> THANK YOU, SHARRY. I WILL NOT REPEAT EVERYTHING SHE SAID, BUT SUCH WONDERFUL THINGS HAVE BEEN GOING ON. I ALSO WANT TO GIVE A COMMENT ABOUT THE DREAM STATE PROGRAM THAT I ATTENDED.
IT WAS JUST SO TOUCHING. I FELT LIKE A PART OF THE COMMUNITY.
JUST KNOWING THE VETERANS THAT ARE IN OUR COMMUNITY. THEY WERE THERE AND THE TALKS WERE FABULOUS. THANK YOU ALL FOR THE WORK YOU DID TO PUT THAT ON. IT REALLY WAS SOMETHING SPECIAL. I JUST LOVE THAT OUR COMMUNITY DUES -- DOES STUFF LIKE THAT.
IT IS A COMMUNITY WE CAN BE PROUD TO BE A PART OF AND I AM GRATEFUL TO BE ON THIS COMMITTEE AND TO KNOW ALL OF YOU AND TO BE ABLE TO CONTRIBUTE IN SOME WAY, SO
THANK YOU AGAIN. >> THAT WAS PERFECT TIMING.
ANGELICA JUST WALKED IN. AS YOU CAN SEE, YOU CAN SEE WHO IS JOINING US, KEN CUTLER. HE HAS TURNED OUT NOW. WE WERE ALL HAVING A LITTLE SAY ON WHAT HE WAS TO EAT ONE OF OUR LIVES AND I KNOW EVERYBODY HAS ALREADY GONE AND I'M SURE YOU WANT TO
HAVE YOUR MOMENT AS WELL. >> DID YOU GET THAT? OKAY. MY NEW NEIGHBOR, IT HAS BEEN SUCH A PRIVILEGE THESE LAST EIGHT YEARS, WATCHING THE WAY YOU HAVE LED WITH SUCH HEART AND COMPASSION AND ROOTED IN SUCH BEAUTIFUL VALUES. I REALLY FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE REALLY LED BY EXAMPLE AND I HOPE THAT MANY OF US, I KNOW FOR ME, I WILL STRIVE TO EMULATE YOUR LEADERSHIP IN YOUR COMMUNITY AND YOUR UNDERSTANDING ADJUSTER UNDERSTANDING NOT ONLY OF HISTORY, BUT DIVERSITY AND DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES AND HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO ALLOW US TO SHINE AND ALLOW US TO PROGRESS, BUT ALWAYS STAY ROOTED IN VALUES AND HISTORY AND WHAT WE KNOW IS REALLY IMPORTANT, SO I WISH YOU SO MUCH LUCK IN THIS NEW CHAPTER. I KNOW YOU WILL BE AROUND ALSO, SO WE ARE NOT LOSING YOU. I THINK THAT IS TO THE BENEFIT OF US ALL, JUST TO HAVE YOUR WISDOM STILL HERE AND I KNOW THAT MANY OF US WILL BE LEANING INTO YOU FOR TIMES FOR DIFFERENT ADVICE AND THINGS, SO I APPRECIATE YOU AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THOSE YEARS OF SERVICE.
>> WE ARE NOT LOSING HIM. WE ARE GAINING HIM IN SO MANY
[7. Approval of the Agenda]
OTHER WAYS NOW. I AM SURE THE CITY WILL TAKE MUCH -- THEY WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT AS MUCH AS THEY CAN. TRUST ME. HE[8. New Business]
IS NOT DONE. NEXT ON, WE HAVE THE APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA. CAN I GET A MOTION TO APPROVE THE AGENDA? ALL RIGHT, DO WE HAVE A[00:15:02]
SECOND? >> I SECONDED.; WEBER, SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE. PLEASE SHOW IT PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. NOW, THE TEAM PROGRAM AND THE FIRE TRUCK. WE ARE BACK TO WHERE WE
WERE BACK IN MAY. >> GOOD EVENING, EVERYBODY.
JACKIE, SENIOR DIRECTOR OF STRATEGY AND GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS. THANK YOU FOR BEING PATIENT WITH WEATHER AND NEEDING TO CHANGE MEETINGS AND SKIP MEETINGS AND NOT HAVING A QUORUM AND ANYTHING. THIS AGENDA DOES LOOK VERY FAMILIAR.
IT IS ESPECIALLY FAMILIAR WITH THIS FIRST ITEM AND THAT IS BECAUSE WHEN WE DID MEET ALL THE BILLY BACK IN MAY, THIS TOPIC OF CONVERSATION WAS UP FOR YOU ALL. THE COMMISSION HAD DISCUSSED TEAM PROGRAMMING IN THE STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR A TREE WE HAD IN APRIL AND MAY AS THE COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD AND THE PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARDS TO COME UP WITH SOME IDEAS FOR TEENAGE PROGRAMMING TO SHARE WITH CITY STAFF. SO, AT THE MEETING, WE DID HAVE A DISCUSSION AND YOU WILL SEE THERE IS A SHEET IN FRONT OF YOU, WHERE WE WROTE DOWN ALL OF THE IDEAS THAT YOU PROVIDED US, BUT BECAUSE THERE WAS BARELY A QUORUM AT THAT MEETING, IT WAS DECIDED THAT WE WOULD DISCUSS THE TOPIC AGAIN WHEN WE HAD A FULL BOARD, AND SO THAT IS WHY WE ARE PRESENTING THIS ITEM TO YOU AGAIN , PROVIDING YOU WITH A LIST OF WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN MENTIONED AND GIVING EVERYONE THE OPPORTUNITY EITHER TO SHARE SOME ADDITIONAL IDEAS OR IF YOU ARE NOT HERE AT THAT MEETING, TO SHARE ANY IDEAS THAT YOU HAVE ON TEAM PROGRAMMING. SO, YOU KNOW THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT AND THE LIBRARY HAVE CONTINUED TO PROVIDE TEAM PROGRAMMING AND THEY HAVE EVEN IMPLEMENTED A FEW IDEAS THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED ALREADY. AGAIN, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE US WITH THOSE IDEAS. WE WILL COMPILE THEM AND SHARE THEM WITH STAFF.
>> LAST TIME, WE ALL KIND OF GAVE SOME IDEAS AND I SEE THAT MOST OF THEM ARE ON THE LIST RIGHT NOW. SO, DID ANYBODY COME UP WITH ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS DURING THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS OR DO YOU ALL FEEL COMFORTABLE PROPOSING THE IDEAS THAT ARE ON HERE NOW TO THE COMMISSION? IS THERE ANYTHING YOU SEE THAT YOU
MIGHT WANT TO REMOVE OR ADD? >>
>> THERE IS NOT A SPECIFIC CHANGE, BUT ANYONE WHO IS TEEN 13 TO 19, I WOULD CONSIDER A TEENAGER. AS WE ALL KNOW, THERE IS A WIDE VARIETY OF INTERESTS WITHIN THAT AGE GROUP, BUT WE DO NOT HAVE A LIMIT ON SPECIFICALLY WHICH AGE GROUP IN BETWEEN 13 AND 19, SO I WOULD GIVE IT THAT BROADER BRUSH.
>> OF COURSE. >> I AM SORRY. I MISSED THAT MEETING, THE COMMITTEE MEETING, BUT IS THERE ANY MORE DETAILS, LIKE BIG BROTHER? WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? DO YOU REMEMBER?
>> I BELIEVE THAT WAS AN IDEA THAT LORI HAD COME UP WITH. SHE BELIEVES THAT SHE AND HER HUSBAND HAD WORKED WITH BIG BROTHER, BIG SISTER WHEN THEY LIVED, I BELIEVE, IN NEW JERSEY, SO THAT WAS JUST AN IDEA OF TRAINING THEM IN. SO, THIS IS IN DETAIL WHAT EVERYONE DISCUSSED, BUT JUST THE GENERAL TOPICS THAT WERE BROUGHT UP. SO, YOU KNOW, THIS TOPIC HAS BEEN A LITTLE DIFFICULT, ONLY IN THE SENSE THAT THE CITY DOES PROVIE TEENAGE PROGRAMMING. PARKS AND RECREATION AND THE LIBRARY TO PROVIDE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TEEN PROGRAMMING, BUT SOMETIMES IT IS NOT REACHING THE CHILDRE OUT THERE THAT NEED TO HAVE SOMETHING THAT IS A LITTLE BIT MORE SUBSTANTIAL, A LITTLE BIT MORE STABLE, A LITTLE BIT MORE TO REIN THEM IN FROM MAYBE DOING SOMETHING THAT THEY SHOULD NOT BE DOING. SO, THAT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND OUT WHAT KINDS OF THINGS THOSE KIDS THAT MAYBE DO NOT WANT TO HEAR THE MESSAGE, YOU KNOW, THAT THERE ARE THINGS FOR THEM TO DO HERE IN THE COMMUNITY THAT THEY MIGHT HEAR, BUT BECAUSE YOU ALL ARE PARENTS AND YOUR ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY, YOU KNOW, YOU MIGHT HAVE SOME IDEAS AS TO SOME OF THE THINGS THAT MIGHT OCCUPY SOME OF THE TEENS WHO
NEED SOME GOOD THINGS TO DO. >> QUESTION, IS IT A TYPO OR IS IT ONLY BIG BROTHER? BIG BROTHER, BIG SISTER? OKAY.
[00:20:01]
>> YOU JUST DO NOT CALL YOUR SISTER BIG. THAT IS WHY WE LEFT THAT OUT. I LEARNED THAT AFTER HAVING THREE SISTERS. YOU ARE
>> YOU KNOW, HALLOWEEN, OBVIOUSLY --
>> A DIFFERENT BUTTON. THANK YOU, EVERYONE. OKAY, SO WHEN HALLOWEEN TOOK PLACE A COUPLE WEEKS AGO , AS A PARENT OF A YOUNGER TEENAGER, MY OLDEST IS 13, THERE WERE JUST A LOT OF CONVERSATIONS GOING ON BETWEEN MYSELF AND OTHER TWEEN AND TEEN PARENTS AND I SAW A LOT GOING ON ON FACEBOOK ABOUT WHAT ARE SOME ALTERNATIVES, WHAT ARE SOME THINGS THAT THOSE TEENAGERS CAN DO ON A NIGHT LIKE HALLOWEEN, WHERE A LOT OF THE TEENAGERS HAVE SORT OF OUTGROWN TRICK-OR-TREATING WITH THEIR FAMILY, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, WE DO NOT NECESSARILY WANT THEM JUST DOING WHATEVER, RIGHT? YOU KNOW, MAYBE NOT DOING SOMETHING -- THERE WERE A LOT OF CONVERSATIONS AROUND, THE MESSAGES AND DISCUSSIONS THAT I SAW AROUND IS THERE A SAFE PLACE FOR THEM TO GO? WE DO NOT WANT THEM TO NECESSARILY GO TO AN ADULT CLUB, BUT IS THERE A SAFE LOW SO I SING, MAYBE A PARTY, SO ON NIGHT OR ROUND NICE LIKE HALLOWEEN OR NEW YEAR'S, OBVIOUSLY, CITY STAFF ARE CELEBRATING WITH HER OWN FAMILY, SO MAYBE IT COULD BE BEFORE OR AFTER OR WHATEVER.
COULD THERE BE TIMES WHERE THERE IS A BIT OF A PARTY , KIND OF EVENT? I DO NOT KNOW. AGAIN, DO NOT OF THAT WILL BE ATTRACTIVE TO THEM, BUT THERE WAS A LOT OF THAT CONVERSATION GOING ON IN TERMS OF ON THE SPECIAL EVENTS, IS THERE A WAY FOR THEM TO SOCIALIZE TOGETHER, BUT NOT NECESSARILY JUST BE ON THEIR OWN? DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?
>> IS SOMETHING TO CONSIDER. I AM SURE YOU'RE OVER THERE, TAKING NOTES. ONE THING THAT I WANTED TO ADD, FIRST OF ALL, WHAT JEFF JUST DID, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE AGE LIMIT IS OR WHATEVER FOR SOMEBODY TO GET THAT KIND OF TRAINING, BUT FOR THESE KIDS TO GET THAT TYPE OF TRAINING, TO KNOW WHAT TO DO IN NATURAL DISASTERS AND HOW TO HANDLE -- IT IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT. THE EDUCATION YOU GOT FROM -- IT IS PRETTY IMPRESSIVE TRAINING. ONE THING I WAS GOING TO SUGGEST IS ONE THING WHEN I WAS GROWING UP IS I TOOK A LOT OF MARTIAL ARTS AND WITH THE MARTIAL ARTS, WHEN YOU'RE TEACHING SELF-DEFENSE AND THOSE KINDS OF THINGS, YOU LEARN DISCIPLINE. YOU LEARN SELF-CONTROL. YOUR LEARNING RESPECT. THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS THAT IT TEACHES KIDS BEYOND JUST FIGHTING BECAUSE THE WAY I WAS TAUGHT, AND WAS MORE ABOUT DEFENSIVE THAN IT WAS ACTUALLY ATTACKING , AND IF WE CAN GET SOME TRAINERS OR INSTRUCTORS OR PEOPLE LIKE THAT THAT CAN DO THAT KIND OF THING I AM SURE THERE ARE PLENTY THAT WOULD VOLUNTEER THEIR TIME, THAT KNOW THAT ABOUT SELF DEFENSE. I THINK THAT IS IMPORTANT FOR THESE KIDS BECAUSE GIVES THEM EXERCISE AND IT TEACHES THEM DISCIPLINE AND THERE WAS A LOT OF -- THERE ARE CERTAIN THINGS THAT USED TO HAPPEN. IT IS FUNNY BECAUSE I WENT INTO STARBUCKS . IT IS A FUNNY STORY, BUT BEFORE MY INSTRUCTOR WOULD LET US LEAVE, IF THERE WAS EIGHT OF US IN CLASS, HE WOULD RELEASE EIGHT FLIES AND WE HAD TO CATCH A FLY IN ORDER TO LEAVE -- WITH OUR HANDS. THAT WAS BEFORE THE MOVIE CAME OUT. SO, I THINK IT WAS A THING THAT OBVIOUSLY INSTRUCTORS KNEW BACK IN THE DAY. THAT IS WHY THEY PUT IT IN THE MOVIE. ONE OF THE GIRL SAID, OH, THOSE FLIES ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY. I SNATCHED IT AND I SAID, WHAT DID YOU DO? THE NEXT DAY, THERE WAS A FLY IN THERE LIKE, BILL, SHOW THEM WHAT YOU DID YESTERDAY. I JUST WALKED OVER AND I GRABBED THE FLY AND THEY WERE LIKE, THIS IS AMAZING. THESE ARE THE THINGS THESE KIDS CAN LEARN. IT IS JUST A FUNNY THING, BUT, AGAIN, IT TEACHES THEM A LOT OF DISCIPLINE AND STUFF LIKE THAT.
I WAS THINKING MAYBE WE COULD ADD SELF-DEFENSE TO THAT, LIKE A SELF-DEFENSE CLASS AND STUFF. YOU KNOW, THESE THINGS, KEN MY KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS, BUT WHEN YOU LOOK AT ROCK CLIMBING AND THINGS LIKE THAT, WILL THAT BE SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE A LIABILITY FOR THE CITY VERSES, YOU KNOW, SOMETHING LIKE CREATING A MOVIE AND DOING TIKTOK CHALLENGES AND FIRST-DAY TRAINING AND COOKING CLASSES AND ART CONTEST. THESE ARE GREAT, BUT I THINK HAVING A ROCK CLIMBING, YOU KNOW, EXHIBIT, WHO WILL BE THERE MONITORING THE KIDS? YOU HAVE TO HAVE A FULL-TIME STAFF OUT THERE FOR SOMETHING LIKE THAT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE KIDS ARE, YOU KNOW, HARNESSED CORRECTLY AND STUFF LIKE THAT, SO I THINK WHATEVER WE DECIDE TO PASS ON TO THE COMMISSION SHOULD BE SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE
[00:25:02]
REALISTIC, SO THAT THE CITY DOES NOT HAVE ANY LIABILITYWITH IT AS WELL. >> SO, YOU KNOW EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE IDEAS THAT YOU PROVIDE TO US, WE ARE GOING TO PASS ALONG TO STAFF BECAUSE SOMETIMES WE MAY NOT SEE THAT THERE IS A WAY TO DO THINGS THAT SOMEBODY WHO PUTS TOGETHER PROGRAMS MAY FIND A WAY TO DO IT, SO I JUST WANT TO ASSURE YOU THAT EVERYTHING THAT YOU VOICE, WE WILL PASS ALONG BECAUSE EVERY SINGLE IDEA THAT YOU HAVE HAS VALUE TO IT. SO, WE WILL GO AHEAD AND PASS THEM ALL ALONG.
>> GOOD. THAT IS BIG, THE ROCK CLIMBING, THE OBSTACLE COURSES.
YOU WATCH TV AND YOU SEE ALL THESE TV SHOWS WITH OBSTACLE COURSES AND STUFF. THESE KIDS, THEY LOVE THAT STUFF. IF THERE IS A WAY TO BYPASS THE LIABILITY IN THERE, I WOULD
LOVE TO SEE THAT HAPPEN. >> IS THERE ANY PLACE FOR ULTIMATE FRISBEE IN PARKLAND BECAUSE THAT IS VERY BIG ON COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES IN THE BOSTON AREA, OUTSIDE OF FLORIDA, ALL THE TOP-TIER UNIVERSITIES HAVE TEENS.
ULTIMATE FRISBEE IS BIG AND A LOT OF THE HIGH SCHOOLS AROUND THE COUNTRY NOW. I DO NOT KNOW IF THAT EXISTS IN PARKLAND, BUT THAT COULD BE SOMETHING THAT COULD EXIST IN PARKLAND.
>> MAYBE FOR THE PARK EXPANSIONS. LIKE IN THE CORROBORATION. THE NEW PART THEY WILL BE PUTTING IN, NORTH OF WHEREVER THAT IS, NEAR YOUR HOUSE. YEAH.
>> ULTIMATE FRISBEE IS KIND OF A BIG DEAL RIGHT NOW.
>> THERE ARE A COUPLE IN OAKLAND PARK, SOME COUNTY PARKS. THERE IS ULTIMATE FRISBEE. I WAS GOING TO ASK ABOUT WHAT ABOUT THE POLICE EXPLORER PROGRAM? THAT IS BOYS AND GIRLS. IF WE COULD DO THAT WITH -- I AM SURE IF WE WORKED WITH THE CITY, WITH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, THEY COULD COME UP
WITH A YOUTH PROGRAM FOR SURE. >> I'M NOT SIR ABOUT THAT, BUT I DO KNOW THE POLICE EXPLORER PROGRAM, THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE HAS MADE IT SO THAT IS A REGIONAL THING, THAT IS NOT FOR CITY. THEY DO HAVE AN EXPLORER PROGRAM, BUT NOT ONE SPECIFIC TO EACH CITY. BUT WE HAVE IT ON THE LIST.
>> IS THERE AN AREA ON THE CITY'S WEBSITE FOR STUDENTS OR RESIDENTS, YOUNGER RESIDENTS, THAT THEY CAN CLICK ON TO SEE WHAT IS AVAILABLE IN THE CITY RIGHT NOW? OKAY. HOW ABOUT EVEN A WELCOMING COMMITTEE? FOR TEENAGERS, IF YOU ARE A SENIOR, BUT YOU COULD HOOK UP WITH NEW RESIDENTS THAT MOVED IN HERE THAT ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE CITY, I HAVE NOTICED ON FACEBOOK YOU HAVE PARENTS COMING ON SAYING,YOU KNOW, I HAVE A FRESHMAN. WE JUST MOVED HERE. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS AVAILABLE TO THEM. WHAT SPORTS, WHAT HAPPENS AT THE P RACK. MAYBE EVEN TEACH THEM HOW TO CHANGE A TIRE. WE COULD DO THAT IN THE PARKING LOT. THEY CAN LEARN HOW TO CHANGE A TIRE.
A TEENAGERS, THE GIRLS TO LEARN -- THE BABYSITTING CLASSES AND CPR. WHAT WAS THE OTHER ONES? BUT I KNOW THE WELCOMING COMMITTEE WOULD BE AWESOME IF THERE WAS A GROUP THAT THEY MET ONCE A MONTH. THEY COULD GET SERVICE HOURS THROUGH THE HIGH SCHOOL. THEY CAN WELCOME NEW RESIDENTS. THOSE ARE JUST A FEW THINGS I WAS THINKING OF THAT STUDENTS FEEL THEY COME IN HERE AND THEY FEEL KIND OF LONELY.
SO, YEAH. >> I AM JUST BRAINSTORMING. SO, TOMORROW, THE CHAMBER IS HAVING THE 501(C)(3) BREAKFAST FOR ALL OF THE COMMUNITY PARTNERS AND A LOT OF THOSE 5013C PARTNERS STRUGGLE TO HAVE VOLUNTEERS COME AND HELP WITH EVENTS IN DIFFERENT THINGS. I CAN SPEAK FOR THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY.
WE HAD A TENNIS FUNDRAISING EVENT AND I TRIED TO GET SOME TEENAGERS TO COME OUT AND HELP AND SERVE AS BALL BOYS AND BALL GIRLS AT THE EVENT. I WENT THROUGH A NUMBER OF COMMUNITY LEADERS IN TERMS OF PTA MOMS AND DADS AND STILL IT DID NOT HAPPEN. ALSO, FOR SOME OF THE OTHER EVENTS , THE MAR-A-LAGO SIP AND SPEND, WE WERE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP, HAVING THEM LOAD AND UNLOAD THINGS. THERE COULD BE A DATABASE FOR TEENAGERS WHO WANT COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS, THAT COULD PARTNER WITH THOSE 5013C -- 501(C)(3)S , WHERE THEY NEED VOLUNTEERS. IF THAT COULD ALIGN, THAT WOULD KILL TWO
[00:30:04]
BIRDS WITH ONE STONE, MAYBE, TO DO SOMETHING HEALTHY FOR THE TEENAGERS, GIVE THEM OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE AND TO PARTICIPATE IN GET THOSE HOURS AND ALSO, YOU KNOW, HELP THE>> YOU HAVE REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEERS, ESPECIALLY ON THE YOUTH SECTION? I AM THINKING WE COULD GET AMBASSADORS, YOUTH
>> SO, WE DO HAVE A SECTION UNDER EMPLOYMENT AND VOLUNTEERING, WHERE PEOPLE CAN APPLY TO BE VOLUNTEERS AND THAT INCLUDES TEEN VOLUNTEERS AND WE HAVE A SEPARATE SECTION FOR THE LIBRARY AND ONE FOR ANY VOLUNTEERING FOR THE CITY. SO, THE CITY NEEDS VOLUNTEERS FOR THINGS LIKE A FARMER MARKET, FOR PARKING, FOR SOME OF THOSE TYPES OF THINGS. IT WOULD TAKE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME TO -- YOU WOULD NEED SOMEBODY WHO COULD COMPILE ALL THIS INFORMATION, KEEP IT UP-TO-DATE, COMMUNICATE WITH THE ORGANIZATIONS. COMMUNICATE WITH THE STUDENTS, SO, AGAIN, WE ARE GOING TO PASS ALL THESE IDEAS ALONG, BUT THERE IS NOT A PARTICULAR PLACE ON THE CITY'S WEBSITE THAT CAN ACCOMMODATE ALL OF THE OTHER ORGANIZATIONS FOR THAT, BUT AS I SAID, THAT IS WHERE WE ARE GOING TO PROVIDE THESE IDEAS AND IF THERE IS A WAY THAT SOMEBODY CAN FIND THEM A WAY TO COME TO LIFE, THEN WE WANT THEM TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT. THAT IS JUST THE WAY -- WE DO NOT HAVE THAT ON THE WEBSITE CURRENTLY, BUT ANY TEENAGER THAT WANTS TO VOLUNTEER FOR THE CITY DOES HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY ON THE
WEBSITE. >> I GET THE PARKLAND NEWSLETTER EVERY MONTH. IS THERE ANY WAY THERE THAT HIGHLIGHTS THE NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS WHEN IT GOES OUT?
>> WE DO HAVE THINGS LIKE -- THE PARKLAND ON TAP THAT GOES OUT AND OCCASIONALLY THEY WILL PUT THAT MESSAGE OUT THERE ABOUT EMPLOYMENT AND ABOUT VOLUNTEERS, YES. THAT IS
WEEKLY. >> IT DID NOT OCCUR TO ME THAT WAS FOR CHILDREN, FOR THE STUDENTS.
>> IT IS FOR ANYBODY, ADULT OR CHILDREN.
>> I GET IT. >> I NEVER -- YEAH.
>> OUR VOLUNTEERS AT THE LIBRARY, MOST OF THEM ARE
TEENAGERS. >> OKAY. THAT IS SOMETHING WE COULD LOOK AT ON SOCIAL MEDIA, TO SAY OUR RESIDENTS, ARE THEY AWARE THEY CAN PICK UP SERVICE HOURS IF THEY LINK INTO THE CITY'S WEBSITE FOR THE VOLUNTEERING?
>> WE DO PUT THAT INFORMATION OUT THERE HERE. AGAIN, WE HAVE SO MANY VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS, ESPECIALLY FOR THE LIBRARY THAT GO UNFULFILLED BECAUSE WE DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH FOR THEM TO DO.
UNFORTUNATELY. >> MAYBE THERE COULD BE A DEDICATED VERSION OF THE NEWSLETTER THAT IS FOR TEENAGERS. HE DOES NOT HAVE TO GO OUT EVERY MONTH OR IS FREQUENTLY, BUT MAYBE IT IS QUARTERLY AND HAS THE VOLUNTEER AND WHATEVER EVENTS WE ARE STARTING TO PUT ON THAT ARE TARGETED TOWARDS TEENAGERS. MAYBE THAT CAN ALL BE LISTED IN
THIS ONE NEWSLETTER. >> THAT IS A PROGRAM IDEA. YOU CAN HAVE A TEENAGE NEWSLETTER, SO THE KIDS BASICALLY, WE ARE TRYING TO FIND THINGS FOR THEM TO DO. MAYBE THEY COULD COMPILE
ONE. >> THEY COULD HELP COMPILE THE NEWSLETTER WITH MENTORSHIP? I AM SO GLAD THE VOLUNTEERISM AND THE NON-PROFITS WERE BROUGHT UP . I FORGOT IT WAS AT THIS MAIN MEANING, BUT WE HAVE TALKED BEFORE ABOUT DOING, LIKE, A FAIR, A NONPROFIT OR VOLUNTEERING FAIR, WHERE WE CAN BRING ALL THOSE NONPROFITS IN AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR OR WHENEVER . DOES HAVE THE TEENS GO AROUND ONE TIME AND FIND WHAT IS THEIR FIT, WHAT IS THERE INTEREST IN TERMS OF VOLUNTEERING. A LOT OF TEENAGERS WANT JOBS AS WELL. A LOT OF THEM ARE LOOKING FOR JOBS AND IF WE DO THIS, I WONDER IF IT COULD BE BOTH. WE COULD HAVE EMPLOYERS THERE, LIKE PUBLIX OR DIFFERENT DAY CAMPS THAT EMPLOY TEENS, WHETHER IT IS DURING THE SUMMER OR AFTER SCHOOL, AND THEN VOLUNTEERS -- I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO BE PART OF THAT, TO SUPPORT THE STAFF. I KNOW OUR STAFF ARE REALLY WILL LINKED IN THE COMMUNITY IN TERMS OF NON-PROFITS, BUT AM HAPPY TO MAKE INTRODUCTIONS AND THEN TO THE DATABASE, RUPERT, YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT THE DATABASE OF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES. HANDS-ON BROWARD HAS A COUNTYWIDE DATABASE AND IT IS SEARCHABLE AND I FORGET IF YOU CAN SEARCH BY GEOGRAPHY,
[00:35:02]
BUT I WAS JUST THINKING TO MYSELF, DO MUNICIPALITIES EVER REACH OUT TO HANDS-ON BROWARD TO HELP THEM MANAGE AND UPDATE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES, SOME OF THE OPEN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES? LIKE YOU SAID, WE DO NOT -- WE MAY NOT HAVE A DEDICATED STAFF PERSON AT THE CITY WHO HAS THE CAPACITY TO MANAGE IT, BUT THEY ARE ALREADY MANAGING A WHOLE DATABASE, SO IT IS ABOUT FINDING WHAT IS CLOSEST TO PARKLAND OR WHATEVER IT IS THAT IS TEEN SPECIFIC AND MAYBE THERE IS A WAY TO JUST HIGHLIGHT THOSE IN OUR NEWSLETTER FOR PARKLAND TEENAGERS OR SOCIAL MEDIA OR WHATEVER. AT LEAST THERE IS THAT KIND OF A RESOURCE. MAYBE WE CAN WORK WITH THEM TO GET THE WORD OUT TO OUR TEENAGERS HERE IN PARKLAND.>> ABOUT 25 TABLES ARE BEING SET UP TOMORROW MORNING FOR THE CHAMBER NONPROFIT, SO THE CITY WORKS WITH THE CHAMBER. THAT IS ALREADY A PARTNERSHIP. MAYBE THERE IS JUST SOME WAY TO SORT
OF ALIGN THINGS. >> ON A WEEKEND OR AN EVENING,
SO THEY CAN ATTEND. >> AWESOME. MAYBE TO YOUR POINT, ANGELIKA, HOW ABOUT THE FARMERS MARKET?
>> ANYBODY ELSE? >> BECAUSE WE HAVE NOT MET IN SO LONG, I WAS REMISS TO RESEARCH THIS, BUT HAS ANYBODY RESEARCHED WHAT OTHER COMMUNITIES ARE DOING THAT HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL FOR TEENAGERS AND TO GET THEM INVOLVED? THIS IS A PRETTY EXTENSIVE LIST AND A LOT OF THINGS, SO IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE WHAT ARE OTHER COMMUNITIES DOING THAT HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL AND HAS WORKED. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I WAS THINKING ABOUT IS I LOVE THAT WE HAVE AT THE AMPHITHEATER, THE MOVIES. WE HAVE THE BANDS. IT WOULD BE KIND OF FUN, I THINK, TO SEE A BATTLE OF THE BANDS FOR TEENAGERS, TO SHOWCASE THEIR THINGS. I KNOW WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, WE HAD A BATTLE OF THE BANDS, BUT WOULDN'T IT BE FUN IF WE DID THAT AS A COMMUNITY? TEENAGERS CAN COME TO THOSE AND THEY SEE A LOT OF FAMILIES AND A LOT OF OLDER ADULTS AND KIDS. THAT MIGHT STRIKE AN INTEREST FOR THEM TO ACTUALLY COME TO THOSE EVENTS. I LOVED SOME OF THESE. WE ARE SO FOCUSED ON SPORTS IN THIS WONDERFUL AREA. I WALKED BY THE PARK AND I SEE EVERYONE PLAYING DIFFERENT SPORTS AND IT IS WONDERFUL, BUT NOT EVERYONE IS INTO THAT. ALL OF THE ART CONTEST AND DISPLAYING THE ART IN THE LIBRARY OR WHEREVER. AND THEN THE OBSTACLE COURSE . I WAS INTERESTED IN HOW YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO DO THIS A BIKE PARK AND SKATE PARK BECAUSE I KNOW THAT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM IN THE COMMUNITY WITH SOME OF -- THEIR COMPLAINTS WITH SOME OF THE BIKERS AND THAT MIGHT BE A SOLUTION TO THAT PROBLEM, IF IT WAS A PLACE FOR THEM TO GO TO RIDE A BIKE , IF THAT HAS BEEN DONE IN OTHER COMMUNITIES, HOW
SUCCESSFUL HAS THAT BEEN? >> AND A JUMP IN? SORRY. I KEEP DOING THIS TO PICK IN WESTON, THERE IS A SKATE PARK AT THE ORIGINAL YMCA AND IT IS OPEN. IT IS JUST OPEN DURING REGULAR HOURS FROM MORNING UNTIL LATE EVENING AND IT IS NOT THAT THERE IS A PROGRAM. KIDS CAN JUST GO AND BRING THEIR SKATEBOARD AND HAVE A GREAT TIME AND THERE IS A STAFF MEMBER THERE, USUALLY. AND THE KIDS LOVE IT. IT IS ALWAYS BUSY. IT IS A COMMUNITY. THE KIDS KNOW EACH OTHER. THEY GO AND HAVE FUN AND ENJOY. NOTE ALL KIDS ARE TO ORGANIZED SPORTS. MAYBE THEY WANT TO PICK UP THEIR SKATEBOARD AND GO DO
SOMETHING FUN. >> TAMARACK ALSO HAS A
SKATEBOARD PARK. >> THE THING ABOUT LOVE FOR THE BATTLE OF THE BANDS. LIVING IN PARKLAND RESERVE, IT IS USED AS AN OVERFLOW FOR PARKING, AND NOW -- SOME OF US GO TO BED AT 8:00. IT IS NOT EASY. I AM ONLY KIDDING.
>> WELL, THE BANDS, I CAN HEAR WHEN THEY COME. I CAN HEAR THEM ALL THE WAY IN HERON BAY. I DO NOT KNOW THERE IS MUCH DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BANDS COMING AND THE TEENAGE VANS COMING. I THINK IT WOULD GET THEM INVOLVED AND THAT WAS -- YOU KNOW, JUST ONE TIME. WE CAN HAVE A BAND, ONE OF THOSE TIMES WHERE YOU WILL HAVE A BAND. MAYBE, YOU KNOW, THEY HAVE TO COMPETE TO BE ABLE TO BE IN IT. I WAS THINKING OF THE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT KIDS ARE INVOLVED WITH THAT ARE NOT SPORTS. ONE OF THEM IS MUSIC. ONE OF THEM IS ART. THE OTHER ARE THESE BIKERS AND SKATERS. THEY LOVE THE ULTIMATE FRISBEE IDEA. I KNOW LOTS OF KIDS ARE INVOLVED WITH THAT. THEN THE ROCK CLIMBING WALL. I LIKE ROCK CLIMBING. THAT IS A REALLY GREAT ACTIVITY. YOU CAN WATCH ME ON FACEBOOK IF YOU GO TO MY
[00:40:05]
FACEBOOK. I DID IT ON A SHIP. ANYWAY, BUT IT IS A GREAT ACTIVITY AND THEN I LOVE THE MARTIAL ARTS ONE. I ACTUALLY KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAS A MARTIAL ARTS PLACE IN COLD SPRINGS. I THINK YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO COME AND DO TIME FOR THE KIDS TO COME BECAUSE THAT WOULD ALSO OPEN UP -- THEY COULD SEE WERE HIS PLACE IS TO DO IT, YOU KNOW? YOU COULD COME INTO THAT.I THINK WE COULD GET BUSINESSES LIKE THAT COME IN FOR FREE, TO SHOWCASE WHAT THEY DO, NOT THAT, YOU KNOW, YEAH IT WOULD ALSO BE PRODUCTIVE FOR THEM, BUT THERE IS A LOT OF THINGS THAT I THINK WE HERE ON THIS LIST THAT ARE REALLY, REALLY GOOD IDEAS. LIKE YOU SAID, HOW DO WE INCORPORATE THEM AND, I GUESS, WE WILL PUT THAT TO THE CITY COUNCIL AND THEY WILL
FIGURE THAT OUT. >> RIGHT, I GUESS JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE, BECAUSE I LIKED EVERYTHING EVERYONE SAID, WE ADDED, POSSIBLY, I KNOW SOMEONE MENTIONED THE POLICE EXPLORER. YOU KNOW THERE IS A WAY TO SIGN UP BEFORE, OR YOU CAN REQUEST RIDING IN THE CITY OF PARKLAND. I DO NOT KNOW THAT WOULD BE A BIG DEAL . IF YOU ARE IN A POLICE EXPLORER COMMUTE CAN YOU JUST A WITHIN PARKLAND IF THIS IS THE DISTRICT YOU ARE IN? IT IS SOMETHING THEY CAN LOOK INTO.
BUT THE ULTIMATE FRISBEE, THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WAS BROUGHT UP. THE SELF-DEFENSE CLASSES, POSSIBLY. THE WELCOMING COMMITTEE, WHICH IS A GREAT IDEA. THE BABYSITTING CLASSES, THE 501(C)(3) VOLUNTEERS, THE TEEN NEWSLETTER, WHICH COULD BE PRETTY COOL FOR A BUNCH OF, YOU KNOW, TEENAGERS TO GET TOGETHER AND BE THEIR OWN NEWSPAPER. THAT COULD BE KIND OF COOL. YOU KNOW, REALLY LOUD BANDS NEAR RUPERT'S HOUSE , SO IF WE HAVE THOSE, WE HAVE A PRETTY TIGHT LIST OF, YOU KNOW, ADDING ON TO WHATEVER YOU HAVE AND PASSING THAT ON TO THE CITY AND SEEING WHAT THEY COME UP WITH. I THINK WE HAVE SOME PRETTY STRONG CHOICES. I AM SURE WE CAN COME UP WITH SOMETHING.
>> A VOLUNTEER FAIR? MAYBE COMBINE WITH THE JOB FAIR.
THANK YOU. OKAY? SO, WITH THAT BEING SAID, GUESS WE CAN MOVE
ONTO THE FIRE TRUCK? >> OKAY, THIS WILL SOUND VERY SIMILAR. THIS ONE HAD NOT BEEN BROUGHT TO YOU BEFORE, BUT ALSO AT STRATEGIC PLANNING, THE COMMISSION HAD ASKED FOR THE COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD TO GIVE SOME IDEAS ON THIS AND THIS AND THIS IS ACTUALLY FROM COMMISSIONER CUTLER, WHO WAS LOOKING OUT THE WINDOW FROM THE LIBRARY, THE CHILDREN'S WING DURING OUR MEETING AND THEY SAID, I LOOK AT THIS WINDOW EVERY SINGLE TIME WE HAVE A MEETING AND I LOOK OUT AND I SEE THIS FIRE TRUCK THAT IS SITTING THERE AND IT IS A SHAME THAT IT IS SITTING THERE AND DETERIORATING, SO I ASKED JOEL TO TAKE A LOOK OUT THERE AT YOUR LEISURE TO SEE WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT BECAUSE IT IS KIND OF HIDDEN BACK THERE. YOU DO NOT REALIZE UNTIL YOU'RE LOOKING FOR IT THAT IT IS THERE, BUT IT IS AN OLD FIRE TRUCK. THE COMMISSION HAD ALSO ASKED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO TAKE A LOOK INTO HOW MUCH IT MIGHT COST TO RESTORE AND IN ORDER TO RESTORE IT TO SOME KIND OF WORKING CONDITION THAT WE COULD HAVE MAYBE AT PARKLAND, THAT KIND OF THING, WOULD COST ABOUT $100,000, SO ONE IDEA IS THAT THE COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD MIGHT HAVE SOME FUNDRAISING ABILITY TO COME UP WITH A $100,000. THAT IS KIND OF A HEAVY LEFT, SO ALTERNATIVELY, JUST ANY IDEAS THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE FOR USE OF THE TRUCK, THINGS THAT WE COULD DO TO PRESERVE IT, YOU KNOW. WE HAVE HEARD SOME IDEAS LIKE MAYBE YOU CAN TAKE SOME PARTS FROM DEAD THAT ARE -- YOU CAN TELL IT IS PART OF OUR FIRE ENGINE AND HAVE SOMEBODY CRAFT THAT INTO ART , YOU KNOW, MAYBE THERE IS A FUNDRAISING EFFORT TOWARD THAT BECAUSE IT IS A LITTLE BIT MORE DOABLE THAN $100,000, BUT, AGAIN, THE COMMISSIONER WANTS TO HEAR FROM YOU SOME IDEAS THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE FOR USE OF THE FIRE TRUCK AND JUST LIKE WITH THE LAST ITEM, WE ARE GOING TO GIVE EVERY SINGLE IDEA THAT YOU HAVE IN AND SEE WHAT MIGHT BE
DOABLE. >> OKAY. WHAT IS THAT?
>> I HAVE A QUESTION. HOW OLD --
>> I AM SURE SOMEBODY BEHIND ME KNOWS. VERY.
[00:45:05]
>> I BELIEVE THERE IS USE. I HAVE LIVED THERE FOR 14 OR 15 YEARS. RESIDENTS -- THEY USE A COMPANY TO COME OVER FOR THEIR LITTLE KIDS BIRTHDAY PARTIES AND THE TRUCKS USED TO COME.
THEY WOULD COME DOWN MY STREET. MY DAUGHTER WAS SMALL AND YOU WOULD HEAR THIS BIG FIRE TRUCK AND THE KIDS WOULD RUN OUT, SO IF WE COULD RESTORE IT AND FIND USE FOR IT LATER, WHERE RESIDENTS CAN ACTUALLY USE IT AND PAY A FEE FOR THEIR BIRTHDAY PARTIES, THAT MIGHT BE SOMETHING THAT WE COULD LOOK
INTO. AT LEAST -- >> THE COMMITTEE ADVISORY BOARD WOULD ALSO BE TASKED WITH THAT FUNDRAISING, SO, YOU KNOW, $100,000 MIGHT COME AGAIN, BUT YOU MIGHT HAVE SOME GOOD IDEAS
FOR THAT FUNDRAISING. >> WE COULD WORK WITH THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY IN SOME CAPACITY TO FUND RAISE OR
OTHERWISE. >> THE ALTERNATIVE, IF WE DO NOT GET IT RUNNING, I STILL LOOKED AT THE FIRE TRUCK. IT IS A COOL PIECE OF EQUIPMENT AND IT IS THE HISTORY OF THE CITY AND I THINK VERSUS $100,000, WE CANNOT RAISE IT, WE MIGHT HAVE -- THAT MIGHT BE THAT -- THE OUR FIRST OPTION, FINDING PEOPLE WHO CAN BE INVOLVED, EVEN IF IT MEANS PUTTING THEIR LITTLE NAME ON THE THING AS A SPONSOR OF PRESERVING THE TRUCK OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. WE ARE NOT GOING TO GET HOMEOWNERS TO WRITE OUT A CHECK FOR $10,000, BUT WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET SOME COMPANIES, SOME LOCAL BUSINESSES, THAT MIGHT WANT TO BE INVOLVED WITH THIS AND I THINK WE ALL KNOW PLENTY OF PEOPLE THAT WE CAN AT LEAST ATTEMPT TO SEE HOW MUCH WE CAN RAISE FIRST IN THE ALTERNATIVE. IF THAT DOES NOT WORK, WE CAN PUT A CONCRETE SLAB SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE CITY THAT IS VISIBLE THAT WE CAN SOMEHOW PRESERVE THE TRUCK AND MAYBE THERE IS A CLEAR COATING OF DIFFERENT THINGS THEY CAN DO TO POSSIBLY KEEP THE TRUCK WITH A LITTLE SIGN THAT TALKS A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE TRUCK AND THE HISTORY OF IT, THE FIRE TRUCK, THE AGE OF EIGHT AND ALL THAT KIND OF STUFF. MAYBE WE CAN DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT IN THE ALTERNATIVE. I JUST REALLY HATE TEARING IT APART AND TAKING A PIECE OF THE ENGINE AND MAKING A PIECE OF ARTWORK FROM IT WHEN IT STILL LOOKS LIKE A FIRE TRUCK NOW AND TO KIND OF KEEP IT IN THAT PRISTINE STATE, I THINK THERE COMPANIES OUT THERE THAT KNOW HOW TO PRESERVE IT FROM THE ELEMENTS, THEN MAYBE IT CAN BECOME LIKE ITS OWN LITTLE STATUE OF A FIRE TRUCK. FIRST, MAYBE WE CAN ALL REACH OUT AND SEE IF WE CAN SPEAK TO CERTAIN COMPANIES THAT WE HAVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH AND SEE HOW MUCH WE CAN COME UP WITH.
>> YEAH. IN ORDER TO MAKE IT -- PRISTINE , PRISTINE IS A VERY KIND WORD. WE WOULD NEED TO HAVE THAT RESTORED FIRST BEFORE WE COULD PRESERVE IT. YOU ARE RIGHT, THAT WOULD TAKE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF FUNDRAISING AS WELL. YOU KNOW, KEEPING THAT
IN MIND. >> WHEN YOU SAY RESTORE IT, I HAVE A COUPLE QUESTIONS. ONE, DO WE ONLY GET ONE QUOTE OF THE $100,000, OR HAVE WE GOTTEN A COUPLE MORE LOOK AND SEE DEALS?
>> I'M NOT SURE IF THERE WAS FOR QUOTES, BUT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TALK TO SOMEBODY AND I AM NOT SURE IF YOU HAD TALKED
TO ANYBODY AS WELL. >> A LITTLE BACKGROUND TO THIS WHOLE PROJECT WITH THE TRUCK. ONE OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENTS ACHIEVES RESTORED THEIR TRUCK AND HE WAS VERY INVOLVED AND ACTIVE IN THE PRESERVATION OF THEIR FIRE HISTORY . THEY SET UP A WHOLE MUSEUM AND EVERYTHING, SO OUR FIRE DEPARTMENT REACHED OUT TO HIM, TO COME OVER AND TAKE A LOOK AT THE TRUCK AND HE DID NOT FEEL UNLESS YOU WANTED TO THROW WHOLE BUNCH OF MONEY, LIKE $100,000, INTO THE PROJECT, THAT IT WOULD BE RESTORABLE. YOU WOULD NEED A LOT OF MONEY BECAUSE A TRUCK IS NOT IN VERY GOOD CONDITION RIGHT NOW. I MEAN, THE HOOD IS RUSTED OUT. THE ENGINE DOES NOT WORK AT THIS POINT. SO, THERE IS A LOT THAT WOULD NEED TO BE DONE TO PUT IT BACK HIM EVEN INTO A CONDITION WHERE YOU WOULD ALLOW CHILDREN TO GET IN OR CLOSE TO IT BECAUSE, RIGHT NOW, IT IS A HAZARD. IT IS A PROBLEM. WHEN YOU SEE IT FROM A DISTANCE, YOU GO, WOW, THAT IS AN ALT-ROCK. IT NEEDS A LOT OF WORK.
>> ARE THERE ANY PARTS THAT YOU LIKE FROM IT THAT YOU MIGHT SAY TO YOURSELF, WOW, THIS COULD BECOME A WORK OF ART OR
SOMETHING LIKE THAT? >> I KNOW SOMEBODY WITH THAT KIND OF ARTISTIC FLAIR TO DO THINGS WITH IT THAT WOULD
[00:50:02]
ENABLE YOU TO MAKE SOME SORT OF AN ART OBJECT OUT OF IT, BUT I PERSONALLY DO NOT HAVE ANY SORT OF PREFERENCE ON PULLING ANYTHING OFF OF IT TO DO THAT. MY IDEA ORIGINALLY WAS, LET'S GET IT RESTORED BECAUSE, OR LEAST LET'S PUT IT SOMEPLACE WHERE IT IS NOT OUT IN THE OPEN ELEMENTS BECAUSE IT IS JUST DETERIORATING OVERTIME BECAUSE IT IS OUT IN THE SUNLIGHT AND THE RAIN AND EVERYTHING ELSE. NOTHING IS PROTECTING IT, SO THAT IS A BIT OF A DILEMMA RIGHT NOW BECAUSE THERE ISREALLY NO PLACE TO PUT IT. >> THAT IS WHAT I WAS GOING TO ASK. IS THERE ANYPLACE WE COULD IN CASE IT, WHERE -- IF THAT ROOM WAS NOT BEING USED RIGHT NOW, YOU COULD HAVE THE FIRE TRUCK IN THERE. THEY CAN SEE THE FIRE TRUCK BEHIND THE
GLASS. >> PUT IT IN A GIANT BLOCK OF
LUCITE. >> WHAT IS YOUR OPINION,
KNOWING MORE ABOUT THAT? >> I WANTED TO PRESERVE IT, BUT I HAVE HEARD FROM THE EXPERTS ON IT, THAT IT WOULD TAKE A LOT OF MONEY AND A LOT OF EFFORT TO DO THAT.
>> WHEN THEY SAY PRESERVE, DO THEY NEED TO MAKE IT WORKABLE?
>> S, SO YOU COULD DRIVE IT THROUGH THE STREETS, USE IN
PARADES. >> WE WOULD NOT EVEN GO IN THAT DIRECTION. MAYBE TO MAKE IT AESTHETICALLY PLEASING. IF IT IS APARTMENT FIRE TRUCK AND YOU DESIGN THE OUTSIDE TO MAKE IT A PHOTO DESTINATION, MAKE IT A PLACE WHERE THE KIDS ARE GOING TO GO AND GET A PICTURE TAKEN. IT COULD BE AT THE NEW PARK OR WHERE IT IS NOW WITH PICNIC TABLES AROUND OR -- JUST A PLACE TO GO AND HAVE LUNCH AND TAKE SOME COOL PICTURES. IT COULD BE AT THE HOLIDAYS. YOU COULD DECORATED FOR FOURTH OF
JULY. JUST A PHOTO OP. >> AGAIN , WHAT HE IS SAYING IS EVEN TO GET US TO THE POINT WHERE YOU WOULD WANT A CHILD ANYWHERE NEAR IT, IT WOULD COST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.
>> BUT NOT SOMETHING YOU WOULD CLIMB ON. SOMETHING AESTHETICALLY PLEASING, NOT WORKABLE.
>> YEAH, JEFF DOES NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. OTHER THAN I CAN TELL YOU THAT PROBABLY -- I WANT TO SAY 15 TO 17 YEARS AGO, HE WANTED TO SEE IF HE COULD GET THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO RAISE FUNDS TO PUT IT BACK TOGETHER AND HE WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THAT. SO, THAT WAS, YOU KNOW, THAT WAS SOMETHING HE HAD LOOKED TOO MANY YEARS AGO AND OVER TIME, IT HAS JUST BEEN
SITTING THERE, A LONG TIME. >> WHAT ABOUT THE AUTO CLUB ? SOME ENTHUSIAST FOR REFURBISHING CARS, THINGS LIKE THAT. THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO PUT TOGETHER CARS FROM NOTHING, FROM PARTS, AS A HOBBY AND THERE ARE SOME ECCENTRIC PEOPLE, PERHAPS, THIS IS THEIR THING AND THE CITY, FOR ALL WE KNOW, THERE IS SOMEONE WOULD LOVE TO TAKE ON THIS PROJECT.
>> THE ONLY ISSUE IS THE MONETARY ASPECT. MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE ACUMEN TO DO IT, BUT DO THEY WANT TO PUT $100,000 OF HER OWN MONEY TO FIX UP A TRUCK FOR THE CITY? I TEND TO DOUBT THAT. BILL SAID IT. IF YOU COULD FIND A CORPORATE SPONSOR THAT WAS WILLING TO FIX IT AND , YOU KNOW, WANTS HER NAME PUT ON IT, THEN I AM SURE THE NEWEST COMMISSION WOULD TAKE THAT INTO CONSIDERATION. WE DO HAVE A NAMING SYSTEM NOW THAT IS IN PLACE, SO YOU WOULD HAVE TO FOLLOW THOSE REGULATIONS IN ORDER TO DO THAT, BUT IT IS AN APPLICATION PROCESS AND THINGS LIKE THAT. IT COULD BE ACCOMPLISHED. IT IS JUST A MATTER OF FINDING THE RIGHT PEOPLE THAT KNOW HOW TO DO IT AND THE PEOPLE THAT WANT TO DO IT AND ARE WILLING TO FUND IT.
>> LET ME ASPIC IF IT DOES NOT GET RESTORED, IS THE CITY LOOKING TO GET IT REMOVED? IS THAT KIND OF WHERE THIS IS GOING? IT IS TIME TO DO SOMETHING?
>> WE WOULD HAVE TO AT SOME POINT BECAUSE RIGHT NOW, IT IS NOT MOVABLE. IT COULD BE A LIABILITY. WE HAVE HAD GOVERN WEIGHTS -- WE HAVE THE THIRD-GRADERS HERE AND WE HAD TO ENSURE THAT AS THEY TRAVELED FROM THE PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING TO THE CHILDREN SWING OF THE LIBRARY, THAT NONE OF THE KIDS RAN OVER TO TRY TO TOUCH IT BECAUSE IT IS THAT DANGEROUS.
AT SOME POINT, YES, IT KIND OF HAS TO GO.
>> AND THE CITY WOULD OBVIOUSLY HAVE TO BUDGET THE FUNDS TO REMOVE IT SAFELY, RIGHT? I WAS EVEN THINKING IS THERE SOMETHING FOR THAT AMOUNT THAT WE COULD DO? I MEAN, IT HAS BEEN MENTIONED IN ART PROJECTS. MAYBE THERE IS ALSO AN ABILITY TO HAVE A PHOTO CONTEST FOR PEOPLE TO TAKE PHOTOS OF IT, SO WE CAN REALLY PRESERVE THE IMAGE, THAT IT WAS THERE. YOU
[00:55:04]
COULD HAVE A STAND WITH THE PHOTOS. MAYBE THAT IS COMBINED WITH SOME ART, YOU KNOW, THAT PRESERVES PIECES OF IT, THAT CAN ALSO STAY IN THAT SPOT. YOU COULD PUT IN A BENCH. IT COULD BE A PHOTO OP. ONLY SUGGESTING THIS AS A SECOND-BEST BECAUSE KEEPING THE ACTUAL THING AND PRESERVING IT IN A WAY THAT MAKES IT SAFE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE FEASIBLE UNLESS WE HAVE A LARGE FUNDER OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. SO, JUST ANOTHER WAY TO AT LEAST KEEP THE IMAGE OF IT, THE REMINDER, IN THE SPOT. SOME HISTORY. MAYBE EVEN A BACKGROUND, SHORT OF PRESERVINGIT. >> THE CITY WOULD SPEND ON REMOVING IT -- THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO SPEND ON PUTTING UP ANOTHER SIGN, TAKING SOME OF THE PIECES, HAVING AN ARTIST DO A COMMISSION OR A CONTEST, WHETHER IT IS PHOTOGRAPHY OR
SOME SORT OF A STATUTE. >> IN APRIL. WE GAVE YOU AN UNREALISTIC TASK THAT COULD NEVER BE ACHIEVED. AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE CONCERN IS WHAT CANADA SAID ABOUT THE FACT THAT SOMEBODY THAT HAD GONE THROUGH THE PROCESS CAME HERE AND SAID I WOULD NOT DO IT IF I WERE YOU.
>> LET'S SEE BEFORE THE NEXT MEETING IF WE CAN COME UP WITH SOME POSSIBLE CORPORATE SPONSORS AND IF WE GET HERE AND SAY, LISTEN, WE WERE ABLE TO RAISE $60,000, LET'S SEE IF WE CAN DO THAT. IF WE CAN COME UP WE DECIDE WE DO NOT WANT TO USE THAT, MAYBE WE CAN SWITCH IT TO SOMETHING ELSE. WE ALREADY HAVE THE SPONSORSHIP. INSTEAD OF THE FIRE TRUCK, WE ARE DOING A CHAIR. WE WILL FIGURE SOMETHING OUT, BUT AT LEAST LET'S TRY IT. LET'S SEE IF WE CAN COME UP -- ANY PHOTOS OF IT THAT WE CAN USE TO PITCH TO POSSIBLE DONORS?
>> WE CAN ALWAYS GO TAKE PHOTOS. DID ANYBODY GO AND TAKE
A LOOK AT IT? >> CAN I ASK A QUESTION? THE LAST 15, 20 YEARS, HAS THIS COME UP AT ALL? IT HAS NOT COME UP FOR 15 OR 20 YEARS. IT HAS JUST BEEN SITTING THERE?
>> WELL, I WILL SAY IT HAS COME UP EVERY TIME I SAID OVER AT THE LIBRARY AND LOOK AT IT. THAT HAS BEEN FOR THE LAST EIGHT YEARS, CERTAINLY. YOU KNOW, I BROUGHT IT UP A NUMBER OF TIMES BEFORE, BEFORE THE COMMISSION AND THE CITY MANAGEMENT, AND, YOU KNOW, IT IS NOT ANYTHING THAT IS A PRIORITY, OBVIOUSLY. IT IS JUST SOMETHING THAT IS A PART OF OUR HISTORY AND SOMETHING I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO PROTECT IN SOME FASHION OR TO AT LEAST HAVE IT ACKNOWLEDGED IN SOME FASHION, IN SOME WAY. THAT IS WHERE THE ART ASPECT OF IT CAME UP. YOU KNOW, I DO NOT KNOW -- I AM NOT REALLY AN AUTOMOTIVE KIND OF A GUY, SO I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO PUT IT BACK INTO A CONDITION, BUT I HAVE SEEN THE TRUCK THAT THE OTHER CHIEF PUT TOGETHER. IT WAS A TRUCK FROM THE 1930S AND IT WAS ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT. EVERY TIME THEY HAVE A CITY EVENT, THAT TRUCK LEADS THE PARADE. IT SHOWS UP AT STOP AND IT IS GORGEOUS, SO, YOU KNOW, I AM THINKING THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE SHOULD TAKE PRIDE IN, AND OUR HISTORY, AND IT IS SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY, IT IS RIGHT HERE TO MAYBE LOOK INTO AND THAT IS WHY I KEEP BRINGING IT UP AND HOPEFULLY YOU GUYS CAN COME UP WITH SOLUTIONS TO HELP US
FIGURE IT OUT. >> DID THE CITY PAY FOR IT? DO THEY HAVE A SPONSOR A FUNDRAISER?
>> I DO NOT KNOW THE ANSWER. >> WHO OWNS THE TRUCK NOW? THE FIRE DEPARTMENT? IT IS SITTING THERE.
>> IT IS A CITY OF PARKLAND TRUCK.
>> IT HAS JUST BEEN SITTING THERE FOR 15, 20 YEARS AND NOBODY HAS DECIDED, HEY, WE'RE JUST GOING TO LET THIS SIT HERE AND ROT OR -- I HATE TO BE THE CYNICAL PERSON HERE, BUT MY QUESTION IS, IT HAS BEEN SITTING THERE FOR 15, 20 YEARS, AND NOW WE'RE SUDDENLY SAYING, LET'S RESTORE IT? WHY NOT 15, 20 YEARS AGO? NOW, IT IS TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS GOING TO COST HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND IN MY MIND, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS COULD GO TO A LOT OF OTHER GOOD USES IN THE CITY, SO MAYBE TAKING PICTURES LIKE THEY HAVE SAID OR MAYBE TAKING A PART OF IT OR -- IT WOULD BE A BETTER IDEA. I LIKE THAT BETTER AS FAR AS THE MONEY IS CONCERNED BECAUSE RAISING THAT MUCH MONEY FOR IT TO BE A SHOWCASE, I AM NOT SURE. TO ME, I'M NOT SURE IF THAT IS A GOOD
USE OF MONEY AND TIME. >> THEREIN LIES THE QUESTION OF
[01:00:05]
WHETHER IT IS SOMETHING THAT IS CITY FUNDED VERSES WE FIND A SPONSOR FOR IT AND THAT IS WHY THEY ARE FEELING THAT IDEA, TO SEE WHETHER IT IS SOMETHING YOU CAN COME UP WITH OR FIGURE OUTWHERE TO MOVE . >> JUST A QUESTION FOR $100,000, COULD WE HAVE A REPLICA MADE? A NICE AND SHINY
NEW ONE? >> WHEN THEY ARE DONE WITH IT, IT WILL BE A REPLICA. WHEN THEY -- IT IS ALL NEW PARTS. IT IS REALLY A REPLICA TO BEGIN WITH. THEY WILL BE DOING THE SAME THING WITH THE FIRE TRUCK. HE WILL TRY TO PRESERVE AS MUCH AS THEY CAN BUT IT WILL BE PULLING PARTS OFF AND PUTTING NEW ONES ON. IT IS A REPLICA COME IN ESSENCE, WHEN THEY ARE DONE WITH IT. I SAY WE AT LEAST TRY. LET'S SEE IF WE CAN COME UP WITH SOME SPONSORSHIPS AND AT THE END OF THE DAY, IF WE RAISE THAT MONEY, IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO GET IT OPERABLE, THEN MAYBE THAT IS WHEN WE CAN TALK ABOUT PRESERVING IT AND MAKING IT BEAUTIFUL AND MAYBE A LANDMARK OF THE CITY OR MAKING IT, LIKE YOU SAID, IF PHOTO OP FOR THE KIDS OR SOMETHING.

[01:06:21]
>> YOU DO NEED TO REAPPLY IT AS AN AUTOMATIC THAT YOU ARE REAPPOINTED, YOU WANT TO LET THE CURRENT COMMISSIONERS AND THE NEW COMMISSIONERS KNOW THAT YOU'RE INTERESTED IN DECEMBER AND IN JANUARY, THEY WILL HAVE A COMMISSION MEETING WHERE THEY WILL BE MAKING THOSE DECISIONS AS TO THE BOARD, SO BECAUSE I DO HOPE THAT THIS BOARD STAYS THE SAME, BUT JUST IN CASE IT CHANGES, I DIDN'T WANT TO PUT AN ENTIRE YEAR'S WORTH OF MEETINGS OUT THERE THAT MAY NOT WORK FOR EVERYBODY. SO, WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO DO IS ASK THE BOARD TO VOTE ON OUR NEXT MEETING SO WE CAN ENSURE WE HAVE THE NEXT MEETING AND ASHLEY CONTINUE THE SECOND TUESDAY IN JANUARY, THAT WOULD BE JANUARY 14TH. I WOULD, UNLESS THERE IS CONVERSATION I CAN HAVE ABOUT THAT DATE. IT'S THE SAME BOARD, I BELIEVE THE MEETING OF THE 15TH MAY BE WHEN THE COMMISSION IS SELECTING
BOARD MEMBERS. >> THAT WOULD BE PERFECT FOR ME BECAUSE THAT IS MY WIFE'S BIRTHDAY, THAT WOULD SAVE ME
FROM HAVING TO GET HER A GIFT. >> OH, SORRY.
>> THAT IS FINE, JANUARY 14TH IF WE HAVE TO.
>> UNLESS ANYBODY WOULD LIKE TO PROPOSE A DIFFERENT DATE.
>> BECAUSE I KNOW I'M GOING TO GET IN A LOT OF TROUBLE FOR THAT, CAN WE EITHER DO IT THE SEVENTH OR THE 21ST? COULD WE DO THE SEVENTH MAYBE? TOO EARLY?
>> THAT IS ALL UP TO YOU, YOU CAN STILL HAVE A MEETING THEN, BUT I'M JUST ASKING IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A MEETING
BEFOREHAND. >> I CAN DO THE 14TH IF WE HAVE TO, THAT IS FINE, IF WE ARE DONE BY 7:00, 7:30, THAT IS
FINE, I'M GOOD. >> AND THE SEVENTH DOESN'T
WORK? >> I DON'T KNOW, I'M FINE WITH EITHER THE SEVENTH OR THE 14TH. AND AGAIN, THIS BOARD MAY STAY EXACTLY THE SAME OR IT MAY BE DIFFERENT DEPENDING ON HOW THE COMMISSIONERS PICK THAT BUT RIGHT NOW, THINGS CAN ALWAYS CHANGE BUT BECAUSE IT IS JANUARY, IT IS ON THAT AGENDA,
ON JANUARY 15TH. >> LET'S JUST LEAVE IT THE 14TH, THAT IS FINE. DOES THAT WORK FOR EVERYBODY?
>> THAT WORKS FOR ME. >> MAKE SURE YOU CAN GET A
DINNER RESERVATION AT 8:00. >> THAT IS ALL I HAVE, THANK
YOU. >> SO, I GUESS WITH THAT BEING SAID, WE WILL SEE EVERYBODY ON JANUARY 14TH, AND GREAT MEETING
[01:10:04]
TONIGHT, WE ARE GOING TO MISS YOU, KEN, BUT NOT REALLY BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE, CAN I GET A MOTION TO ADJOURN? SECOND? OKAY, WE ARE ADJOURNED. THANK YOU ALL FOR
