>> WE CAN GET STARTED. RUPERT WILL PROBABLY SNEAK IN IN A LITTLE WHILE.

[1. Call to Order]

[00:00:05]

GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE. I WOULD LIKE THE CALL TO ORDER THIS REGULAR CITY OF PARKLAND

ADVISORY BOARD MEETING. CAN YOU LEAD US IN THE PLEDGE? >> I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCED TO FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION, UNDER GOD,

INDIVISIBLE WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL. >> ROLL CALL, PLEASE.

>> BILLION KENNEDY. >> HERE. >> JEFF WOLFE.

>> HERE. >> SHARRY KIMMEL. >> PLEASANT.

>> LAURIE PLOTNICK IS OUT. ANGELIKA? >> PRESENT.

>> RUPERT IS OUT. KENDRA CROMPTON. >> PRESENT.

[4. Approval of Minutes]

AND MARIANO GOMEZ. >> HERE. >> NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS THE APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM OUR MARCH 023 MEETING. CAN I GET A MOTION TO APPROVE

THE MINUTES? >> I'LL MOVEFUL. >> I SECOND.

>> SECOND. >> OKAY. GREAT.

I HAVE A FIRST FROM JEFF, A SECOND FROM KEN THAT. ALL IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE. ANYONE OPPOSED? PLEASE SHOW IT PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. NEXT WE HAVE COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC.

OKAY. THAT WAS QUICK. SO ALL RIGHT.

SO YOU HAD NO ONE. I'M CLOSING TO THE PUBLIC. OPEN TO THE BOARD.

[6. Comments by the Chair and Board]

AND LET'S DO SOME COMMENTS HERE. SO I JUST HAVE A FEW THINGS, JUST THINGS I WANTED TO TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT. TOMORROW NIGHT AT 6:00 P.M. SHARRY WILL TELL YOU MORE ABOUT IT, BUT THE PARKLAND FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY WILL WELCOME DR. KITTY OLIVER.

DR. OLIVER IS AN AUTHOR, ORAL HISTORIAN, MEDIA PRODUCER AND SINGER.

HER LECTURES FOCUS ON RACE AND CHANGE THAT BUILDS BRIDGES ACROSS DIVERSE COMMUNITY AND GENERATIONS. I'M CERTAIN SHARRY WILL KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS EVENT.

HOPEFULLY WE HAVE A GREAT TURNOUT FOR THAT. IT WILL BE AT THE PARKLAND LIBRARY IN THE CHILDREN'S MEETING ROOM. THAT'S FIRST.

AND SUNDAY MAY 28TH, THE CITY OF PARKLAND WILL BE HOSTING A MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY AT 5:30 P.M. AT PINE TRAILS PARK AMPHITHEATER. THERE WILL BE MUSICAL PERFORMANCE, GUEST SPEAKERS, FOOD TRUCKS, AND MUCH, MUCH MORE.

I HOPE EVERYONE CAN MAKE IT. I KNOW IT'S A GREAT, GREAT TURNOUT EVERY YEAR.

I'M PRETTY CERTAIN MY DAUGHTER WILL BE SINGING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM FOR THAT ONE AS WELL.

SO I'LL DEFINITELY BE THERE. SO ALSO, TOMORROW NIGHT AT 6:30 P.M., IN CONFLICT WITH DR. OLIVER, WE ALSO HAVE THE CITY COMMISSION IS GOING TO BE HOSTING THE STATE OF THE CITY FOR 2023. THIS IS WHEN THE COMMISSIONERS WILL SHARE AN OVERVIEW OF COMPLETED AND SCHEDULED PROJECTS THROUGHOUT THE CITY. I KNOW IT'S GOING TO BE VERY INFORMATIVE AND HOPEFULY A LOT OF PEOPLE CAN MAKE IT FOR THAT AS WELL.

FINALLY, ON APRIL 19TH, THE CITY COMMISSION HONORED FIVE STUDENTS WHO WON THE PARKLAND COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD A ANKLE ALSTATE FOUNDATION AWARDS. ALSO I WANT THE THANK JEFF, DENISE, AND ANGELIKA FOR JOINING US THERE THAT NIGHT. I KNOW HOW DIZZY YOUR SCHEDULES ARE. BUT IT WAS GREAT THAT YOU WERE THERE TO RECOGNIZE THOSE AMAZING KIDS. AND THAT'S IT. I GUESS WE'LL START WITH

KENDRA. >> I DON'T HAVE MUCH TO SAY. I TOOK MY PARENTS.

THEY LOVED IT. MY DAUGHTER GOT UP AND WAS CLAPPING.

I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO PARKLAND FOR PROVIDING THAT. I THINK IT'S A GREAT ACTIVITY.

>> SHARRY? >> CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN TO THE SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS.

VERY EXCITING. EVERYONE ON THE BOARD PARTICIPATED IN ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. IF YOU DIDN'T PRESENT THE AWARDS, YOU WERE ANALYZING THE APPLICATIONS AND COMPLETING THE RUBRIC AND SUBMITTING THOSE. CONGRATS TO EVERYONE ON THE BOARD FOR THEIR PARTICIPATION. ALSO, AS MOST OF YOU PROBABLY ARE AWARE, THE CITY IS PLANNING FOR THE NEW PARK GOING ON THE CORNER OF KNOB HILL AND HILLSBOROUGH.

IT'S IN MY OWN COMMUNITY, AND IT MAY EVEN INC INPIC PROVIDE PICK. SO PLEASE TAKE THE SURVEY ON THE

[00:05:15]

CITY'S WEBSITE IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE.

THERE WAS A MAJOR WEATHER EVENT IN APRIL, FLOODING ON THE EAST SIDE OF BROWARD.

FOR THE MOST PART, OTHER THAN LAWN CARE MAINTENANCE GETTING PUSHED BACK, PARKLAND WAS FOR THE MOST PART VERY PRESSED COMPARED TO OTHER CITIES IN OUR COUNTY.

MY HEART WENT OUT TO THE FRIEND WHO FOUND THEMSELVES WADING THROUGH EIGHT INCHES OF WATER INSIDE OF THEIR HOMES AND WERE FORCED TO LEAVE THEIR CARS STRANDED IN THE STREETS AND VACATE THEIR RESIDENCES. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT MANY SCHOOL BUILDINGS IN BROWARD WERE ALSO AFFECTED. SO WE WERE VERY FORTUNATE IN OUR CITY.

WE NEED TO TAKE NOTE. AS OUR CHAIRMAN, BILL, HAD MENTIONED, THE TEN DAYS OF CONNECTION ARE FIRST DAYINGS IN MAY FOR PUBLIC LIBRARIES AROUND THE COUNTRY.

AND ALL AROUND THE COUNTRY THE FIRST TEN DAYS OF MAY, LIBRARIES CELEBRATE DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION BY HONORING AND RECOGNIZING VARIOUS CULTURAL GROUPS.

AND THEY MAKE A POSTING TO A WEBSITE. THE WEBSITE ADMINISTRATORS CREATE A QUILT OF ALL OF THE DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES GOING ON AROUND THE COUNTRY.

AND THIS YEAR THE PARKLAND LIBRARY IS PARTICIPATING IN THAT WONDERFUL ACTIVITY.

SO THEY ALREADY HOSTED A MARIACHI BAND PERFORMANCE, AND NEXT THE NOTABLE AUTHOR AND SPEAKER KITTY OLIVER, WHO IS AN EXPERT ON RACE AND CHANGE, WILL BE HERE ACTUALLY TOMORROW NIGHT SPEAKING ABOUT RACE AND CHANGE ACROSS CULTURES AND GENERATIONS, INSPIRATIONAL STORIES.

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO REGISTER FOR THAT. IT'S AT 6:00 P.M. AT THE PARKLAND LIBRARY. THESE THINGS ARE ALL SPORTED AND SPONSORED BY THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY. OF COURSE, OUR LIBRARY IS THE GEM OF THE CITY.

SO STOP BY THE LIBRARY AT SOME POINT, BUT IF YOU CAN STOP BY TOMORROW NIGHT, THAT WOULD BE GREAT. YOU HAVE TO PREREGISTER. ALL YOU NEED IS A LIBRARY CARD.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE A LIBRARY CARD, JUST BRING YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE OR PROOF OF RESIDENCE TO THE LIBRARY FRONT DESK AND GET YOUR LIBRARY CARD. THERE ARE PROGRAMS EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. IT'S ALL FREE TO PARKLAND RESIDENTS.

FRIDAY MAY 5TH WAS THE MAKE OUR SCHOOLS SAFE DIAMOND LIVE FOR ALYSSA GALA.

IT WAS CREATED IN HONOR OF ALYSSA. ALYSSA'S LAW IS CRITICAL LEGISLATION ADDRESSING TH ISSUE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT RESPONSE TIME WHEN A LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCY OCCURS BECAUSE TIME EQUALS LIFE. THE LAW CALLS FOR THEICS THATLATION OF SILENT PANIC ALARMS DIRECTLY LINKED TO LAW ENFORCEMENT.

SO IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY AT THE SCHOOL, THEY WILL GET ON THE SCENE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, TAKE DOWN THE THREAT, AND TRIAGE ANY VICTIMS. ALYSSA'S LAW HAS PASSED IN NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, AND FLORIDA AND HAS BEEN INTRODUCED BY LEGISLATORS IN NEBRASKA, TEXAS, ARIZONA, VIRGINIA, AND OREGON. SO IT WAS A PRIVILEGE TO PARTICIPATE AND SUPPORT THIS WORTHY 5 501(C)3 AT THAT EVENT, AND BILL KENNEDY'S BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER ANGELINA WAS ONE OF THE STARS OF THE EVENING. SHE HAS A VOICE BEFITTING OF HER NAME, OF AN ANGEL.

SHE SANG AND IT WAS INSPIRED. THAT'S IT FOR ME. >> THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> I'M UP? FIRST OF ALL, NO PICKLEBALL FOR BILL AT THIS NEW PARK?

>> NO, MY CALF THANKS YOU FOR THAT. >> SECOND OF ALL, ANGELINA, I WENT TO THE JCC EVENT ON SUNDAY NIGHT AND BILL AND HIS FAMILY WERE THERE.

I HAD NOT HEARD HER SING IN PERSON BEFORE, SO IT WAS ONLY BY TAPE.

THAT WAS AMAZING. SO I'M SO GLAD. I DON'T KNOW WHERE TEXT MESSAGE I SENT YOU WENT, BUT SOMEBODY HAS IT. THAT WAS FUN.

LAST WEEK I ALSO ATTENDED THE HENDERSON BEHAVIORAL HEALTH FUND-RAISING EVENT.

THIS IS THE WEEK OF FUND-RAISING EVENTS, AND THE BROWARD EDUCATION FOUNDATION FUND-RAISING EVENT, A '50S THEME. THAT WAS CRAZY.

BUT GOOD TIME. THE DOCTOR WAS THERE. WE GOT TO SHARE SOME GOOD STUFF.

TODAY IS NATIONAL COCONUT CREAM PIE DAY. I ENCOURAGE YOU ALL TO GO OUT AND ENJOY IT. TOMORROW IS NATIONAL THIRD SHIFT WORKERS DAY.

ENJOY THAT. AS BILL SAID, ENJOY THE UPCOMING MEMORIAL DAY.

THE PRESENTATION WE DID FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS, I KNOW EVERYONE IS BUSY, BUT NEXT TIME WE DO THIS, THAT WAS GREAT. WE WERE TEAM WHEN EVERY TEAM IN PARKLAND WAS GETTING RECOGNIZED.

[00:10:02]

THE PLACE WAS PACKED. LUCKILY WE GOT TO GO FIRST BEFORE ALL THE MAYHEM AND THE WRESTLERS GOT ON THE FLOOR, BUT IT WAS REALLY WELL DIDN'T AND WELL RECEIVED.

THOSE PEOPLE ARE JUST OR THE YOUTH, I FEEL A LOT BETTER THAT OUR FUTURE WILL BE BETTER THAN

THE PRESENT. THANK YOU. >> ABSOLUTELY.

>> DENISE OR A ANGELIKA SCHLANG, LET'S GO WITH YOU. LET'S GO RIGHT DOWN THE LINE.

>> HI, EVERYBODY. I DON'T HAVE MUCH TO ADD TO THESE REALLY EXCELLENT UPDATES OTHER THAN TO ALSO ACKNOWLEDGE MY COLLEAGUES FOR THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE SELECTION PROCESS AND ALL OF THE VOLUNTEERING THEY DO IN THE COMMUNITY, AND GIVEN THAT IT'S THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, IT'S A NICE TIME TO REFLECT ON THE MANY EVENTS THAT OUR CITY, STAFF, AND PARKS AND REC PUT ON. IT'S BEEN A LOT OF FUN, THE SPORTS, THE FARMERS' MARKET.

I'M REALLY SAD WHEN IT'S OVER. I ENJOY IT. IT FEELS LIKE A PLACE... I FEEL REALLY CONNECTED WITH MY COMMUNITY THERE, BECAUSE EVERYONE IS COMING TOGETHER FROM ALL THEIR DIFFERENT NEIGHBORHOODS IN ONE PLACE, AND IT'S JUST FUN, AND WE REALLY ENJOY IT. I JUST WANT THE CONGRATULATE AURAL THOSE WHO ARE GRADUATING, BECAUSE THE NEXT TIME WE MEET, IT WILL BE SUMMERTIME. SO I WANTED TO SHARE THAT

CONGRATULATIONS. THAT'S REALLY IT FOR ME. >> DENISE?

>> MINE IS REAL SHORT, TOO. AS SHARRY HAD MENTIONED, THE SURVEY THROUGH PARKLAND FOR THE PARK, IT WOULD BE GREAT IF WE ALL SHARED THAT ON OUR FACEBOOK OR NEXT DOOR TO GET THE WORD OUT. I KNEW SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS OUT THERE.

SO WE CAN DO OUR PART DOING THAT. SOMERSET PARKLAND ACADEMY, THEIR MEETING WAS CANCELED BECAUSE OF THAT STORM, SO IT ISN'T UNTIL THE END OF THIS MONTH, SO I DON'T HAVE AN UPDATE ON SOMERSET. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> MARIANO GOMEZ? >> IT WORK. HI, GOOD AFTERNOON.

IT'S VERY PLEASANT TO LOOK LEFT AND RIGHT AND SEE SO MANY PEOPLE, SOCIAL GATHERINGS, PUBLIC ACTIVITIES, AND I COMMENTED ON A FACEBOOK POST THE OTHER DAY ABOUT A BETTER EXPOSURE OF ALL THESE ACTIVITIES IN ONE SINGLE PLATFORM. PROBABLY IT'S OUT THERE.

FOR ME IT'S NOT. SO I'D LIKE TO COMMENT THAT IF WE CAN GET EVERYBODY TO LINK THE NETWORKING IN THE COMMUNITY, WE JUST KEEP EVERYBODY MORE INFORMED AND WE GET A BETTER

IDEA OF WHAT IS GOING ON. >> INCREDIBLE. THAT'S A FACT.

[7. Approval of the Agenda]

ALL RIGHT. GREAT. NEXT WE HAVE THE APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA. CAN I GET A MOTION TO AMOVE AGENDA.

>> MOTION TO APPROVE. >> SECOND. >> OKAY.

EVERYONE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE. >> AYE.

>> UNOPPOSED. OKAY. PLEASE SHOW IT PASSED

[8. New Business]

UNANIMOUSLY. NEXT WE WILL GO ON TO NEW BUSINESS.

THAT WOULD BE, NUMBER ONE, ADOPT A STREET, PARK, ET CETERA EVENT. AND NUMBER TWO, THE JULY MEETING

SUMMER BREAK. IT'S ALL YOURS, JACKIE. >> ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING, EVERYBODY. OUR FIRST ITEM IS... I PUT ADOPT-A-STREET/PARK/ET CETERA. IT COULD BE ADOPTING ANYTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE CLEANED UP.

THE GENESIS OF THIS IDEA WAS FROM STRATEGIC PLANNING. IT WAS BROUGHT UP AS AN IDEA THE COMMISSION DISCUSSED. BASICALLY FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW, ADOPT-A-STREET PROGRAMS, YOU SOMETIME GOSS TO A CITY AND YOU SEE A LITTLE SIGN THAT SAYS "THIS STRETCH OF ROAD IS ADOPTED BY THE ROTARY CLUB" OR WHATEVER GROUP IT IS. BASICALLY, IN EXCHANGE FOR HAVING THE SIGN OUT THERE, THEY HAVE TO COMMIT TO CLEANING UP THAT AREA A CERTAIN NUMBER OF TIMES A YEAR. SO RIGHT NOW THERE'S SIX BROWARD COUNTY MUNICIPALITIES THAT HAVE THAT KIND OF A PROGRAM. SO THE THOUGHT WITH THIS WAS, WELL, MAYBE WE COULD DO A CLEAN-UP AND KIDS COULD DO IT, AND THEY COULD GET SERVICE HOURS.

INSTEAD OF, YOU KNOW, PUTTING UP A SIGN, THAT KIND OF THING. SO WHEN WE LOOKED AT IT, THE BIG GLARING THING THAT CAME OUT WAS WE DON'T HAVE A LITTER PROBLEM. PARKLAND IS CLEAN.

OUR PARKS AND REC AND PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENTS DO A GREAT JOB KEEPING THINGS CLEAN.

WE DON'T REALLY TEND TO SEE ANYTHING, AND IF A LITTLE POCKET ARISES SOMEWHERE, WE LET THEM KNOW AND THEY PICK IT UP. SO IN SOME COMMUNITIES THAT'S NOT THE CASE.

IN SOME COMMUNITIES, YOU KNOW, IT'S NEAR A HIGHWAY WHERE, YOU KNOW, A LOT OF STUFF TENDS TO ACCUMULATE OR MAYBE THEIR TEAMS DON'T GET OUT THERE ALL THE TIME TO CLEAN IT UP, BUT I THINK

[00:15:03]

WE'RE VERY FORTUNATE HERE THAT WE DON'T HAVE A LITTER PROBLEM. BUT THE RESULT OF DISCUSSING THIS IN STRATEGIC PLANNING WAS THAT THE COMMISSION SAID, WELL, WHY DON'T WE ASK THE CAB IF THEY THINK THIS IS WORTHY OF MAYBE A ONE-TIME EVENT, YOU KNOW, SO HERE WE ARE, YOU KNOW, FOR YOU ALL TO KIND OF DISCUSS IT AND TAKE A WILL BE AND SEE, DO YOU THINK THAT THAT WOULD BE WORTH A ONE-TIME EVENT, AND IF SO, DO WE HAVE AN AREA THAT WE THINK WOULD NEED TO BE CLEANED UP, YOU KNOW, I HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS, WHERE WOULD IT BE, HOW WOULD BIT MANAGERED, WHAT OTHER THINGS SHOULD WE CONSIDER? SO THAT'S FOR YOUR DISCUSSION AND I'M HERE THE ANSWER ANY

QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE. >> OKAY. I HAVEN'T LIVED IN THE CITY FOR MANY, MANY YEARS AND HAVING MY FAMILY LIVE IN THE CITY FOR EVEN LONGER THAN ME.

SO I'VE BEEN A PART OF THE CITY FOR 20 YEARS, WHAT YOU SAID AT THE BEGINNING KIND OF HIT HOME.

I DRIVE INTO THE CITY, AND I GO, WOW, THIS IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PLACE.

I DON'T EVER SEE LITTER. I DON'T SEE THAT HAPPENING. I SEE IT ADOPTING A STREET AS FOOLISH AS FAR AS WE DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM IN OUR STREETS. SECOND OF ALL, I DON'T SEE... I SEE TOO MUCH LIABILITY HAVING KIDS GETTING NEAR STREETS TO CLEAN THEM.

SO IT WOULD GO BACK TO THE PARKS. MY KIDS PLAY IN BOTH PARKS.

I THINK THEY'RE BOTH BEAUTIFUL. I SEE PEOPLE, IF THEY SEE SOMETHING ON THE GROUND, I SEE PEOPLE AND MYSELF JUST BEND OVER, PICK IT UP, AND PUT IT IN THE GARBAGE PAIL.

L.YOUR TEAM DOES AN AMAZING JOB. YOUR PEOPLE WITHIN THE CITY, THEY'RE ON TOP OF IT.

SO IF YOU EVER HAVE A PROBLEM, IF THERE'S A CLEAN-UP ON AISLE ONE, YOU'RE OUT THERE PRETTY QUICK. AS FAR AS AN EVENT, I SEE AN EVENT, EVEN IF YOU HAVE 50 OR 100 KIDS, AFTER THEY PICK UP THAT ONE CAN, WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO DO FOR THE REST OF THE DAY? THAT'S KIND OF WHERE I SEE. THIS I WAS READING THROUGH IT EARLIER AND I WAS TRYING TO THINK OF HOW THIS COULD WORK, BECAUSE I WOULD LOVE TO GIVE THESE KIDS COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS, BUT ON THE OTHER SIDE, WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO GO, AND WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO ACHIEVE THIS RESULT THAT THEY'RE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH WHEN I DON'T SEE A PROBLEM? I GUESS WE'LL JUST START WITH DENISE AND WORK OUR WAY DOWN AND

GET EVERYBODY'S OPINION. >> THE ONLY ROAD I WAS THINKING OF IS LOCKS.

WE'RE NOT GOING ON LOCKS. THE ONLY OTHER WOULD BE DOWN BY THE LOXAHATCHEE BLOCKS DOWN BY THE PRESERVE? I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT'S CALLED. LOXAHATCHEE... FOR THE AIRBOAT

RIDES. >> THE RESERVE. >> THAT WOULD BE THE ONLY AREA.

AND I HAVE SEEN DANIELLE TURNER. SHE'S HAD SEVERAL CLEAN-UPS THERE, AND THEY GET ABOUT TEN BAGS. THEY GET QUITE A BIT THAT THEY PICK UP, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO HAVE AN EVENT. I WOULDN'T CALL THAT AN EVENT. I WOULD SAY MAYBE TEN KIDS SHOW UP AND THEY CAN GET IT DONE IN AN HOUR. LIKE BILL SAID, I THINK IT WOULD END UP... I THINK THEY'D PICK UP A FEW THINGS AND IT WOULD BE A PARTY.

>> I AGREE. >> I AGREE WITH MY COLLEAGUES. I DON'T THINK THERE'S SOMETHING TO OCCUPY US WHEN IT COMES TO PICKING UP TRASH, BUT I DO HAVE A COUPLE IDEAS TO FLOAT.

SO FIRST WOULD BE, IS THERE AN AREA THAT MIGHT NEED SOME CARE. MAYBE THERE'S... AND AGAIN, THE STAFF IS SO GREAT, IT'S GOING TO BE HARD TO FIND IT IS. THERE AN AREA THAT NEEDS BEAUTIFICATION, PLANTING, PAINTING, REPAIRING OR SOMETHING AS OPPOSED TO TRASH THAT REALLY WOULDN'T BE MUCH FOR THE KIDS TO DO? THAT WAS ONE QUESTION IN THE CITY OF PARKLAND. THE OTHER IDEA I HAD, AND YOU CAN SEE EVEN JUST FROM THIS GROUP HOW INVOLVED EVERYBODY HERE IS NOT ONLY IN PARKLAND, BUT GIVING BACK TO OTHER COMMUNITIES THAT HAVE OTHER CHALLENGES THAT WE ARE LUCKY TO MOSTLY NOT HAVE.

AND I HAVE TO SAY THAT FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, MY FAMILY HAS ORGANIZED A COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY THROUGH THE HABAD OF PARKLAND. WE HAVE DEDICATED A CERTAIN NON-PROFIT. MANY PEOPLE ARE ALREADY INVOLVED, BUT SOME MAY NOT BE AS INVOLVED OR KNOW, BECAUSE A LOT OF THE AREAS OF NEED ARE NOT SO CLOSE GEOGRAPHICALLY, AND SO WE'VE GONE OUT THE SOS VILLAGE AND WE'VE GONE OUT TO THE FLIGHT CENTER.

SO I WONDER IF THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO GO OUT TO THE COMMUNITY THAT NEEDS THEIR STREET OR PARK OR BEACH CLEANED. THAT WOULD BE ONE OPTION. OR GO HELP A NON-PROFIT.

FINALLY, THE LAST THOUGHT THAT I HAD IS A FEW YEARS AGO WE HAD ORGANIZED INFORMALLY JUST SOME FRIENDS OF OURS. WE GOT ABOUT 20 KIDS TOGETHER TO GO TO THE COMMUNITY GARDEN, AND WE WERE THERE WITH THE MASTER GARDENER. HE HELPED US, JUST GUIDED THE

[00:20:01]

KIDS. THEY DID SOME WEEDING AND DID SOME THINGS AROUND THE GARDEN, WHICH WAS REALLY NICE. AND THEN THEY GOT TO LEARN ABOUT DIFFERENT PLANTS.

I HAVEN'T BEEN TO THE COMMUNITY GUARD ANYONE A WHILE. SO THOSE ARE JUST THREE DIFFERENT IDEAS THAT I THOUGHT OF IN A WAY THAT WE COULD HAVE OUR COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTE AND OUR

KIDS IN A VERY MEANINGFUL MANNER. >> THOUGHTS?

>> ALL GOOD, AND ANGELIKA, BEFORE I LOSE MY TRAIN OF THOUGHT, I LIKE THE COMMUNITY GARDEN IDEA AS FAR AS CLEANING UP AND WORKING WITH JARED. MY SON DISHIS EAGLE PROJECT THERE BACK IN 2018. SO I KNOW HIS AREA NEEDS SOME WORK, AND JARED ASKED ME WHETHER HE WAS GOING TO COME AND FIX IT. I SAID HE WAS IN GERMANY, SO HE'S NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO COME BACK, BUT THAT'S A VERY WORTHWHILE THING. HE'S KEPT THAT UP FOR QUITE A WHILE. I AGREE THE THE ONLY PLACE I SEE TRASH IS ON LOCKS, AND THAT'S TOO DANGEROUS TO PICK UP. I'M NOT EVEN SURE THE END OF LOCKS IS PART OF THE CITY OF

PARKLAND. >> IT'S NOT. >> AND THERE ARE ALLIGATORS OUT THERE. WHAT I WAS THINKING ABOUT BEFORE THE MEETING, BECAUSE ANGELIKA CAME UP WITH SOME GREAT IDEAS, IS, YOU KNOW, WE TALKED ABOUT A COUPLE YEARS AGO WITH THE RECYCLING AND EVERYTHING FOR TRASH CANS AND STUFF LIKE, THAT MAYBE AS A SMALL COMMUNITY EVENT WE HAVE THE KIDS COME AND PAINT, YOU KNOW, GIVE THEM EACH A BIG TRASH CAN AND PUT THEM ON TEAMS AND JUST GO AT IT ARTISTICALLY OUT IN A FIELD SOMEWHERE. AND THEN WE CAN PUT THOSE OUT SOMEWHERE JUST FOR GARBAGE COLLECTION. I DON'T KNOW IF WE EVER FIXED THE ERROR THAT WE HAD WITH PINE TRAILS PARK SO PUTTING MORE GARBAGE CANS OUT THERE SO PEOPLE

DON'T DROP THEIR TRASH. >> I THINK THERE'S MORE. >> BECAUSE IT CAME UP A COUPLE YEARS AGO. THAT WAS A THING. OTHERWISE, WHAT THEY BROUGHT UP AS FAR AS EITHER PAIRING WITH ANOTHER NON-PROFIT LIKE THE FOOD, GO OVER TO THE FOOD BANK, I'M TRYING TO GET MY COMPANY TO PARTICIPATE IN PACKING BACKPAKS FOR THE TITLE 1 SCHOOLS IN AUGUST. THAT MAY BE SOMETHING WHEN YOU GO OUT TO THE WAREHOUSE, WHICH I THINK IS IN POMPANO BEACH. SUPPOSEDLY, I TALKED TO OTHER COLLEAGUE, IT'S A GOOD TEAM-BUILDING THING TO PACK THE BACKPACKS. I DON'T THINK WE NEED THE REALLY GET INVOLVED WITH DISTRIBUTING THEM, NOT THE KIDS ANYWAY, BUT THE ADULTS IF THEY WANT, BECAUSE THAT'S VERY MOVING FROM WHAT I HEAR WHEN YOU GIVE THESE KIDS THEIR BACKPACKS.

SO I THINK THAT WOULD BE GOOD. BUT, YOU KNOW, I'M OPEN TO ANYTHING.

I JUST THINK IT'S REALLY CLEAN HERE. I MEAN, IT'S A TERRIBLE PROBLEM

TO HAVE. SHARRY? >> I AGREE WITH ALL OF MY COLLEAGUES. WE ARE VERY FORTUNATE IN THE CITY OF PARKLAND.

WE DON'T HAVE THE ISSUES WITH REGARD TO ADOPT -A-STREET THAT OTHER CITIES HAVE.

THAT'S A GOOD POSITION TO BE IN. THAT'S THE ITEM ON THE AGENDA. IF WE'RE GOING TO OPEN UP A SEPARATE DISCUSSION OF ANOTHER COMMUNITY PROJECT, I DON'T KNOW WHETHER OR NOT WE WANT TO.

IT SOUNDS LIKE THAT'S HAPPENING. I WOULD LIKE TO BRING UP TWO PARKLAND BASED 5 501(C)3S, IN JACOB'S SHOES IS A WONDERFUL 05 501(C)3, KIDS VOLUNTEER. THEY HAVE A WAREHOUSE.

THERE'S A WHOLE PROCEDURE TO TAKING HUNDREDS OF DONATED SHOES AND PUTTING THEM BACK INTO PRISTINE CONDITION, AND THEY ARE THEN DIVVIED UP AMONG CHARITIES OF ALL KINDS ALL THROUGH DADE, BROWARD AND PALM BEACH SO ANYONE WHO NEEDS SHOES HAS A NICE PAIR OF SHOES TO WEAR, CHILDREN AS WELL AS ADULTS. THERE IS ALSO TOMORROW'S RAINBOW, WHICH IS ALSO A PARKLAND 5 501(C)3, AND KIDS WHO ARE GRIEVING CAN GO THERE AND VOLUNTEER AND CARE FOR THE HORSES AS A FORM OF THERAPY. THEY DO HAVE LICENSED PSYCHOLOGISTS WORKING WITH THOSE KIDS THROUGH THEIR GRIEVING AS A PROCESS AT THE FACILITY. SO THESE ARE TWO PLACES KIDS CAN

GO AND GET HOURS IN JACOB'S S SHOES. >> I AGREE WITH ALL OF MY COLLEAGUES. IT'S A PERSIAN GULF PLACE AND BE GORGEOUS TO LOOK AT AND BE PART OF. ALSO I PARTICIPATED IN THE JACOB'S SHOES RUN.

THAT WAS REALLY FUN. EVERYBODY BROUGHT SHOES THAT. WAS REALLY FUN.

THAT WAS IN COCONUT CREEK. I'M ALL ABOARD FOR SOMETHING LIKE THAT AS WELL.

THERE IS ONE LITTLE PRESERVE I VISITED WITH MY PARENTS. DORIS DAVIS WILDERNESS PRESERVE.

I NOTICED POSSIBLY THAT COULD USE A LITTLE UPDATING AND CLEAN-UP IF THAT'S SOMETHING THAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR, SOMETHING TO DO.& WHEN WE WENT IT LOOKED LIKE IT

[00:25:05]

COULD USE SOME PAINT OR MAYBE SOME SWEEPING OFF OF THE BOARDWALK IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A PROJECT. I THOUGHT THAT WAS A REALLY CUTE LITTLE... AND I KNOW THE SCHOOL USES THAT A LOT I QUESTIONS FOR THEIR... THEY DO LITTLE FIELD TRIPS THERE AND THEY HAVE LITTLE PRESENTATIONS THERE, WHICH I THINK IS DARLING. SO THAT WOULD BE ONE MAYBE SUGGESTION THAT I DON'T KNOW... MIND YOU, I HAVEN'T BEEN THERE SINCE LAST YEAR.

I HAVEN'T BEEN THERE THIS YEAR. IT MAY HAVE BEEN UPDATED AND CLEANED.

I DON'T KNOW. BUT I DID NOTICE LAST YEAR WHEN WE WENT THERE, I THOUGHT, THIS IS SUCH A CUTE LITTLE PARK. IT NEEDS A LITTLE PAINT OR SOMETHING.

THAT WOULD BE MY ONLY SUGGESTION. >> M ARIANO.

>> I HAVE QUESTIONS. IS THERE ANY OTHER PROBLEMS TO AWARD THE SOCIAL POINTS OR HOW

DO YOU PUT IT TO THE STUDENTS? >> SERVICE HOURS. >> SERVICE HOURS.

>> ARE THERE ANY OTHER PROBLEMS AT THE CITY LEVEL? >> THAT THE CITY SPONSORS, NO, EXCEPT FOR THE YOUTH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM. THE THE YOUTH AMBASSADORS EARN

SERVICE HOURS. >> SO WE'RE TRYING TO PUT IT TOGETHER?

>> THAT'S WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HERE, WHETHER OR IN THE THIS PARTICULAR PROGRAM NEEDS TO BE DONE. AS EVERYBODY HAS BEEN STARTING SOMETHING THAT YOU ALL CAN TALK ABOUT AS SOME OTHER PROJECT OR PROGRAM SUCH AS THE ONES THAT YOU HAVE TALKED ABOUT HERE.

AND YOUR ANNUAL COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM THAT WE'LL BE TALKING ABOUT LATER ON WITH HARVEST DRIVE. SO YOU ALL ARE WELCOME TO TALK ABOUT ANY OTHER PROJECTS YOU'D

LIKE TO WORK ON. >> MORE QUESTIONS. ON THIS SURVEY, ARE THERE QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT THE COMMUNITY WANTS? I THINK IT'S A GREAT IDEA TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE CITY, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE COMMUNITY TO AWARD TO STUDENTS AND CREATE A CULTURE IN THE STUDENTS TO DO SOMETHING, JUST DO SOMETHING, GET A CREW TOGETHER AND WALK AROUND, PROBABLY NOT LITTERING, BUT THE SEWER SYSTEM GETS CLOGGED WITH TOO MANY LEAVES, AND I WALK IN MY COMMUNITY AND I REMOVE THE LEAVES. SO WE'RE THERE EVERY DAY OUT THERE ON THE STREETS. SO IF IT'S A MATTER OF THESE TYPE OF PROGRAM, PUTTING IT TOGETHER, AND JUST ASKING IF THAT'S WHAT IT TAKES TO SPONSOR OR TO CREATE THE PROGRAM TO PUT

IT OUT THERE AS A PROGRAM FOR THE CITY. >> SO YOU ALL CAN DISCUSS WHATEVER KIND OF PROGRAM THAT YOU'RE THINKING OF PARTICIPATING IN AND PUTTING TOGETHER, AND THEN, EXCUSE ME, WE CAN TAKE A LOOK AT THE FEASIBILITY OF THAT. I'D SAY SOME THINGS LIKE CLEANING SEWER DRAINS MIGHT BE A LITTLE BIT... YOU MIGHT NOT WANT TO PUT KIDS ON THAT KIND OF ACTIVITY, BUT THE THOUGHT IS THERE, YOU KNOW, OF SOME PROJECTS THAT YOU HIGH WANT TO PUT TOGETHER. SO THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE ALL WELCOME TO TALK ABOUT AND MAKE A DECISION. IT DOESN'T EVEN NEED TO BE TODAY, YOU KNOW?

>> WHAT I WAS GOING TO SUGGEST IS THAT EVERYBODY SEEMS TO HAVE SOME GREAT IDEAS.

MAYBE EACH PERSON CAN E-MAIL YOU THEIR IDEA, AND SEE, MAYBE YOU CAN PASS IT THROUGH TO THE CITY TO SEE WHICH ONES WOULD BE FEASIBLE TO BRING BACK TO US AND SAY, OKAY, WE WENT THROUGH THESE TEN, TWO FROM ANGELIKA, THREE FROM JEFF, ONE FROM SHARRY, WHATEVER, AND SAID, OUT OF THOSE TEN, THE CITY LIKES THESE THREE. AND THEN WE CAN TAKE IT FROM THERE AND DECIDE.

BECAUSE HAVING A JUNIOR AND ALSO HAVING SOMEBODY IN WEST GLADES, MY DAUGHTER HAS OVER 500 COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS. SHE HAS CRAZY HOURS. SHE DOES A LOT.

BUT I ALSO KNOW A LOT OF KIDS THAT WONDER, HOW DO YOU GET COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS, SO GOING BACK TO WHAT MARIANO SAID, I UNDERSTAND THAT WE HAVE THE PARKLAND YOUTH AMBASSADORS WILL GET SO MANY HOURS. MAYBE WE CAN HAVE A LIST OF ITEMS THAT KIDS CAN DO TO EARN COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS, LIKE SOME OF THESE TOPICS THAT EVERYBODY HAS BROUGHT UP TONIGHT, THAT CAN BE ON THE WEBSITE AND SAY, YOU KNOW, LIKE BASICALLY IF YOU DO TEN HOURS OF THIS PROJECT, YOU CAN GET TEN HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS OR POINTS, BECAUSE KIDS I KNOW, ONE OF THE BIGGEST STRUGGLES THEY HAVE IS HOW DO YOU GET THOSE POINTS, HOW DO YOU

GET THOSE SERVICE HOURS. >> I KNOW THE SCHOOLS GIVE OUT LISTS LIKE THAT TO GIVE THEM IDEAS. OF COURSE, THEY HAVE TO BE VIABLE THINGS TOO THAT ARE PROVEN. SO I KNOW YOUR DAUGHTER IS GETTING HOURS AND MY KIDS ARE

[00:30:02]

GETTING HOURS AND WE KNOW THAT WHAT THOSE FORMS ARE THAT THEY NEED TO GET FILLED OUT.

SO THEY NEED TO BE FILLED OUT BY AN ORGANIZATION OR A BUSINESS OR SOMEBODY THAT THEY'RE ACTUALLY DOING THE HOURS WITH THAT THEY CAN VERIFY. SO WE'D NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS SOMETHING THAT MATCHED UP WITH WHAT THE SCHOOL WOULD FIND ACCEPTABLE FOR STUDENTS, BUT I KNOW THEY GET SOME KIND OF A OF WHAT GUIDELINES THEY CAN USE TO GET SOME OF THOSE HOURS.

>> SO WOULD SOME OF THESE IDEAS THAT WE HAVE EVEN BE WORTH BRINGING TO ANYBODY'S ATTENTION

IF THE SCHOOLS ALREADY HAVE THEIR LISTS? >> WELL, IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE.

WE'D PROBABLY HAVE TO DO A IT WILL RESEARCH TO MAKE SURE THOSE KINDS OF THINGS MATCHED UP.

>> YEAH. OKAY. >> CAN I JUST CHIME IN FOR A

SECOND? >> OF COURSE. >> SO MY SONS BOTH GREW UP IN WESTON, AND IN WESTON WE HAVE THE CLEVELAND CLINIC. BOTH OF MY BOYS, EACH HAD OVER 4,000 COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS LOGGED IN BY THE TIME THEY GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL, BECAUSE THEY WERE, AMONG OTHER THINGS, VERY ACTIVE VOLUNTEERS AT THE CLEVELAND CLINIC.

THIS WAS COMMON FOR KIDS GROWING UP IN WESTON. IT'S A HUGE FACILITY.

THEY HAVE MANY DIFFERENT PROGRAMS, FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS FOR HIGH SCHOOL KIDS.

THEY HAVE VOLUNTEERINGS STARTING IN MIDDLE SCHOOL ALL THE WAY UP. THEY HAVE UNIFORMS THAT THEY WEAR, AND IT'S JUST A THING THAT THE WESTON KIDS DO, THEY VOLUNTEER AT THE CLEVELAND CLINIC. SO IT WAS A WONDERFUL, AMAZING EXPERIENCE.

SO MANY KIDS, IT JUST LITERALLY CHANGED THE COURSE OF THEIR LIVES.

MY OLDEST SON IS A SOFTWARE ENGINEER. HE SPENT THE FIRST FEW YEARS OF HIS CAREER WORKING IN PUBLIC HEALTHCARE ADMINISTRATION. SO THAT EXPERIENCE HAS HAD A POSITIVE EFFECT ON MANY KIDS IN WESTON. IS THERE ANY KIND OF AN INSTITUTION THAT THE CITY CAN PARTNER WITH? WE DON'T HAVE A CLEVELAND CLINIC ACROSS THE STREET, BUT WE HAVE THE LIBRARY OF COURSE. I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS ANOTHER MEDICAL HOSPITAL? THANK GOD I HAVEN'T NEEDED ONE. BUT THERE MUST BE ONE NEARBY.

MAYBE THEY HAVE SOME KIND OF AN OFFICIAL, COORDINATED VOLUNTEER PROGRAM.

I DON'T KNOW. BUT I HAVE HEARD THAT IT IS A LACK IN THE CITY, THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH KIDS NOT BEING ABLE TO EASILY EARN THOSE KINDS OF VOLUNTEER SERVICE HOURS AND HAVE THOSE EXPERIENCES AS A CITY-WIDE ISSUE. I HAVE HEARD THIS BUZZING THROUGH THE COMMUNITY ABOUT THAT BEING SOMETHING FOR US TO LOOK AT.

>> I THINK THE PROBLEM WE HAVE HERE IS WE ARE 90% TO 95% RESIDENTIAL.

WE DON'T REALLY HAVE THOSE TYPE OF BUSINESSES FOR THE KIDS TO HAVE ACCESS TO.

>> WESTON, AS WELL. IT'S CHANGED, IT'S GROWN, BUT THEY PARTNERED WITH THE HOSPITAL AND THEY HAD A VOLUNTEER PROGRAM. I WAS A CANDY STRIPER AS A KID.

THIS WAS A MUCH MORE EXTENSIVE PROGRAM WITH DIFFERENT ARMS TO IT.

SO I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS A HOSPITAL NEARBY THAT HAS THAT KIND OF A PROGRAM, BUT I THINK IT'S WORTH LOOKING INTO, BECAUSE THAT'S LOW-HANGING FRUIT, AND IF IT'S ORGANIZED AND IT'S APPROVED, THEN IT'S AN OFFICIAL, VETTED TYPE OF PROGRAM, IT MIGHT BE SOMETHING TO LOOK INTO.

>> YEAH. >> I WANT TO SHARE A THOUGHT, AND THESE ARE FANTASTIC, JUST TWO THOUGHTS ACTUALLY, THE FIRST, AND I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS A TERRIBLE IDEA, BUT IF ANY OF OUR SCHOOLS, AND BECAUSE OF SECURITY REASONS, I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S FEASIBLE, BUT DO THEY HAVE SERVICE PROJECTS? BEFORE THE SCHOOL YEAR STARTS, DO THEY NEED A BUNCH OF

VOLUNTEERS TO GO AND CLEAN THINGS OR ORGANIZE THINGS? >> I THINK YOU NEED A LEVEL 3

SECURITY CLEARANCE BECAUSE OF THE JESSICA LUNSFORD ACT. >> SO IF THE KIDS GO TO A SPECIFIC SCHOOL, CAN THEY VOLUNTEER WITH THEIR PARENTS WHO ARE CLEARED AS VOLUNTEERS IN THE SCHOOL? THERE ARE WAYS AROUND IT. LIKE, FOR EXAMPLE, RIVERGLADES, THERE COULD BE A CERTAIN DAY THAT RIVERGLADES FAMILIES GO AND CLEAN UP AND PLANT THE GARDEN.

>> I BELIEVE EACH SCHOOL HAS A DIFFERENT PROGRAM OFF THE TOP OF THEIR HEAD.

I KNOW HARVEST DRIVE EVERY YEAR, THEY HOST THAT OVER AT WEST GLADES.

THEY HAVE A CERTAIN NIGHT WHERE THEY INVITE THE KIDS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO COME IN AND ASSIST WITH THAT PROGRAM. SO I DO BELIEVE THEY GET THOSE... I KNOW MY KIDS GOT THE

WORD OUR WHEN THEY WERE THERE. >> RIGHT, RIGHT. NO, THAT'S GREAT.

I MORE MEANT LIKE IS THERE A BEAUTIFICATION OF THE SCHOOL OR SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE FOR THE SCHOOL AS OPPOSED TO -- I DON'T KNOW IF THERE'S SOMETHING WE COULD SURVEY THE PRINCIPAL. THEY MIGHT SAY, WE DON'T WANT THIS, THIS IS GOING TO BE MORE OF A HEADACHE. WE COULD REALLY USE THIS PROJECT, WE COULD USE 20 VOLUNTEERS TO CLEAN THIS. THE OTHER IDEA, BECAUSE AS I'M HEARING, AND I HAVE NOTICED THIS FOR ADULTS AND FAMILIES, NOT NECESSARILY FOR THE TEENS WHO ARE OBLIGATED TO HAVE COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS, WE ALL HAVE SO MANY POWERFUL CONNECTIONS, I'M SORRY.

[00:35:03]

WE ALL HAVE SO MANY CONNECTIONS BECAUSE WE'RE ACTIVE WITH DIFFERENT NON-PROFITS.

AND I WONDER IF WE COULD HOST ALMOST LIKE A ANYONE PROFIT FAIR HERE IN OUR COMMUNITY.

IT COULD BE OUTDOORS. IT COULD BE VERY EASILY DONE WHERE WE INVITE DIFFERENT NON-PROFITS. WE CAN STAY WITHIN A TEN-MILE RADIUS, WHATEVER WE WANT TO DO, AND HAVE KIDS BASICALLY ONE NIGHT COME AND LEARN ABOUT AND FAMILIES, TOO, LEARN ABOUT DIFFERENT NON-PROFITS AND HOW THEY CAN GIVE BACK. IT IS REALLY TRUE GEOGRAPHICALLY IT'S A CHALLENGE. BILL, YOU SAID IT. WITH ACCESSIBILITY, SOME OF THESE NON-PROFITS ARE FAR AWAY. SO LET'S SAY FLIGHT CENTER IS 25 MINUTES AWAY, BUT THEY HOUSE KIDS WHO DON'T HAVE PARENTS, AND THEY NEED PEOPLE TO BUY HOUSING SUPPLIES AND PUT THEM IN A BIN AND EACH CHILD GETS A BIN. THERE'S LOTS OF PROJECTS THAT YOU THIS DO HERE IN PARKLAND AND ENGAGE YOUR COMMUNITY WITHOUT NECESSARILY HAVING TO CONSTANTLY GO OUT AND SOME PEOPLE CAN GO OUT. SOME OF OUR TEENS ARE DRIVING. I WONDER IF MAYBE WE CAN CREATE THAT KIND OF AN OPPORTUNITY FOR FAMILIES AND TEENS TO ENGAGE AND LEARN ABOUT DIFFERENT NEEDS AND ORGANIZATIONS IN THE COMMUNITY DIRECTLY BY ACTUALLY SPEAKING TO THE STAFF.

>> ONE OF THE PROBLEMS THAT I SEE, MARIANO, WITH WHAT YOU WERE SAYING A MINUTE AGO, WHICH IS AN AMAZING IDEA TO HAVE THE CITY INVOLVED WITH A LIST OF THINGS PEOPLE CAN DO, THE PROBLEM I SEE WITH THAT IS OVERSIGHT. ONE THING I LEARNED ABOUT THE YOUTH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM IS THEY GOT THEIR COMMUNITY SERVICE POINTS OR THEY WERE AWARDED THEIR HOURS, BUT YOU TOO HAD TO MONITOR EVERY ONE OF THEIR HOURS, AND YOU HAD TO KEEP TRACK OF IT.

YOU MONITORED THEIR MEETINGS. YOU KNEW EXACTLY HOW MANY HOURS THEY HAD.

WHEN YOU HAVE SOMEBODY JUST CLEANING OUT A PARK AND DOING THIS AND DOING THAT, HOW DO YOU REALLY SIGN OFF ON THAT? HOW DO YOU KNOW THEY'RE THERE? YOU WOULD ACTUALLY BE THERE PHYSICALLY WATCHING THEM TO SEE. IT'S A LITTLE DIFFERENT THAN CHECKING IN AT THE HOSPITAL AND SIGNING IN AND SIGNING OUT, WHERE YOU KNOW YOU'RE THERE. THAT'S WHY I THINK THE CITY MIGHT BE A DIFFICULT ASK, BECAUSE THESE TWO WOULD PROBABLY BE THE ONES THAT WOULD HAVE TO OVERSEE ALL THESE KIDS DOING THESE COMMUNITY SERVICE AND HAVING TO BE SIGNING OFF ON

THEIR HOURS LATER ON. I DON'T SEE THAT HAPPENING. >> AND THE CITY DOES HAVE A VOLUNTEER PROGRAM. SO THAT'S FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS.

YOU KNOW, ANYBODY RIGHT NOW CAN GO ON OUR WEBSITE AND FILL OUT AN APPLICATION TO BE A VOLUNTEER, AND THE NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS EBBS AND FLOWS AS YOU CAN IMAGINE.

SO WE'VE GOT, FOR INSTANCE, PEOPLE WHO ARE HELPING TO PARK CARS AT THE FARMERS' MARKET, THAT'S A COMBINATION OF SOME OF OUR EMPLOYEES AND SOME VOLUNTEERS SOME THERE ARE WAYS THAT PEOPLE CAN GET SOME CREDITS, SOME EXPERIENCE, OR KIDS GETTING SOME HOURS THROUGH THAT KIND OF A PROGRAM. AND THAT IS CHECKING IN WITH SOMEBODY WHO IS A SUPERVISOR, WHO IS LET'S SAY THE PARK RANGER SUPERVISOR FOR THE DAY OF THE FARMERS' MARKET, CHECKING IN, CHECKING OUT, ENSURING, WATCHING OVER THAT PERSON, MAKING SURE THEY'RE TRAINED.

BUT WE HAVE A GENERAL VOLUNTEER PROGRAM ALREADY. >> I'M WITH ANGELICA AND SHERRYY THAT WE NEED THE FIND SOME PARTNERS. MAYBE WE CAN FIND SOME OF THESE CLEVELAND CLINICS THAT WOULD BE WILLING TO AGREE TO TAKE OUR KIDS FROM THE CITY OF PARKLAND THE GIVE THEM SOME VOLUNTEER HOURS AND STUFF LIKE THAT. BECAUSE I THINK LIKE YOU SAID, THAT'S... I KNOW FINDING THE HOURS IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM THAT A LOT OF THESE KIDS HAVE.

WHERE DO I GO. WHAT DO I DO IT WITH, BECAUSE THERE'S NOT A LOT OF RESOURCES AROUND HERE FOR THAT. SO OBVIOUSLY THE AGENDA IS ABOUT ADOPT-A-STREET.

AS FAR AS THAT AGENDA ITEM, I THINK THAT WE KIND OF BEAT THAT ONE TO DEATH AND REALIZE THAT'S PROBABLY NOT GOING TO HAPPEN AS FAR AS THE ADOPT-A-STREET, BUT MAYBE IF WE CAN COME TOGETHER AND EACH E-MAIL YOU SOME OF OUR IDEAS PRIVATELY TO SEE IF SOMETHING THE CITY WOULD BE ABLE TO ENGAGE, AND THEN BRING IT BACK TO US AT THE NEXT MEETING AND SAY, WE LIKE THIS IDEA, THIS IDEA, THIS IDEA, YOU KNOW, ANGELICA BROUGHT TWO COMPANIES TO THE TABLE THAT WOULD BE WILLING. THE SCHOOLS WILL AGREE TO THIS. THEY DO LIKE THAT.

BECAUSE IT'S PART OF THEIR THEME, YOU KNOW? THERE IS... I THINK WE NEED TO DO A LITTLE MORE RESEARCH ON THIS, BECAUSE I HAVE TO LOOK AT THAT LIST.

I THINK WE ALL NEED TO LOOK AT THAT LIST AND SEE WHAT IS IT THAT THE SCHOOLS ALLOW FOR FOR THEIR HOURS. IF IT'S SOMETHING THAT'S NOT ON THEIR APPROVED LIST, KNOWING BROWARD COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD, FINDING THE PERSON THAT'S GOING TO ADD SOMETHING TO THAT LIST I THINK IS GOING TO BE A PRETTY HARD SELL. SO I THINK WE JUST NEED THE STAY

WITHIN THE THEME OF THEIR LIST. >> THEIR LIST IS NOT... YOU JUST HAVE TO GET PERMISSION FROM A

DESIGNATED PERSON IN THE SCHOOL. BUT THEY'RE REASONABLE. >> YEAH.

>> I JUST WANTED TO CLARIFY, THE ISSUE FROM THE STRATEGIC PLANNING WAS TO GET SERVICE

[00:40:04]

HOURS TO YOUTH AND PARENTS, NOT THAT WE PARTICULARLY HAD DIRTY STREETS, RIGHT?

IS THAT... >> I'M NOT QUITE SURE. I DON'T THINK THERE WAS

PARTICULAR ISSUE. IT WAS JUST AN IDEA. >> THE IDEA WAS THE

ADOPT-A-STREET. >> OR A PARK OR AN AREA. >> AN AREA THE BEAUTIFY, THAT

KIND OF THING. >> EXACTLY. >> SO I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS SOMETHING WE NEED TO VOTE ON, WHETHER OR NOT WE'RE MOVING FORWARD WITH THIS IDEA?

>> DOES SOMEBODY WANT THE MAKE A MOTION ON THIS? >> I CAN MAKE A MOTION THAT WE DO NOT PURSUE THE ADOPT- ADOPT-A-STREET/PARK/ET CETERA AT THIS TIME BUT WE LOOK FOR OTHER

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR FAMILIES AND KIDS. >> SECOND?

>> I'LL SECOND. IF THAT'S OKAY. BECAUSE WE'RE MAKING A NEGATIVE

OF IT. OKAY. >> ALL IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY

SAYING AYE. >> AYE. >> AYE.

>> OPPOSED? OR DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANYTHING THEY WOULD LIKE TO ADD TO WHAT ANGELIKA CAME UP WITH? I SEE SHARRY HAS MAYBE AN OPINION ON THIS?

>> I'M ABSTAINING BECAUSE I'M NOT SURE IF OUR DIRECTIVE AND OUR INSTRUCTIONS WERE JUST TO VOTE ON THE ADOPT-AFTER-STREET. THEN I'M NOT IN FAVOR. IF WE HAVE THE LATITUDE TO ELABORATE, THEN I AM IN FAVOR. SO I'M ABSTAINING BECAUSE I'M NOT REALLY CLEAR ON WHAT OUR

CHARGE IS HERE. >> YOU CAN REVISE THE MOTION TO BE SPECIFIC.

>> OKAY. >> I THINK THE BOARD HAS MADE A RECOMMENDATION TO NOT PURSUE THE

ADOPT-AFTER-STREET/PARK/ET CETERA. >> THAT'S A MOTION.

>> ANYBODY WOULD LIKE TO SECOND THAT MOTION? >> SOUNDS LIKE THE SAME MOTION.

>> YEAH, WELL, HER FIRST MOTION WAS THAT WE WEREN'T GOING TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE ADOPT-A-STREET BUT KEEP IT OPEN FOR OTHER IDEAS. THE POINT OF THE AGENDA IS, ARE WE GOING TO GO THROUGH WITH THE ADOPT-A-STREET. BASICALLY THE ANSWER IS NO TO THAT. SO SHE MADE A MOTION THAT WE'RE NOT GOING TO MOVE FORWARD WITH A ADOPT-A-STREET. IF THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO SECOND...

>> I'M SECONDING THAT. >> ALL IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE.

>> AYE. >> ANYONE OPPOSED? OKAY.

PLEASE SHOW THAT THAT PASSED. >> THANK YOU. THE SECOND ITEM FOR NEW BUSINESS IS THE JULY MEETING. SO THE OTHER ADVISORY BOARDS DO NOT HOLD A JULY MEETING.

THEY HAVE A SUMMER BREAK, KIND OF LIKE OUR COMMISSION DOES. OUR COMMISSION HAS A BREAK BETWEEN JULY 12TH AND AUGUST 16TH. SO OUR REGULAR MEETING NEXT IS JULY 11TH. NOT SEEING THAT BESIDES WORKING ON YOUTH AMBASSADOR INTERVIEWS AND THE LIKE, WHICH WE WILL BE DISCUSSING, NOT SEEING THAT THERE IS ANY OTHER PRESSING ISSUES, I JUST WANTED TO PUT IT OUT THERE WHETHER WE WANTED TO TAKE A BREAK AS WELL AS THE OTHER ADVISORY BOARDS ARE DOING OR WE WANT TO CONTINUE WITH THE JULY 11TH MEETING?

>> HAVING BEEN PART OF THIS AND THE EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD FOR MANY, MANY YEARS, I KNOW THAT THAT JULY MEETING WAS ALWAYS A VERY TOUGH ONE, BECAUSE PEOPLE TRAVEL, AND I KNOW THAT WE HAVE ALWAYS KIND OF CANCELED IT IN THE PAST AND WE JUST MOVE FORWARD.

I HAD ALREADY IN MY NOTES HERE, I ALREADY FOUND OUT THE NEXT MEETING WOULD BE NOVEMBER 14TH. SO I KIND OF ALREADY IN MY OWN MIND PLANNED THAT WE WERE

PROBABLY GOING TO DO AWAY WITH THE -- >> ACTUALLY, WE'LL HAVE A

SEPTEMBER MEETING. >> OKAY. THERE'S A SEPTEMBER?

>> YEAH. >> ON THE WEBSITE, I LOOKED ON THE WEBSITE, AND IT SHOWED

TONIGHT'S MEETING AND THE NEXT ONE WAS NOVEMBER 14TH. >> I KNOW WE DO HAVE ONE EVERY OTHER MONTH. SO WE SHOULD HAVE ONE IN SEPTEMBER.

>> I WAS WONDERING WHY THE SEPTEMBER ONE WASN'T IN THERE. SO REALLY WE WOULD BE BACK IN SEPTEMBER. SO I FOR ONE AM ALL FOR IT. I KNOW WE TRAVEL IN JULY, AND I KNOW IT'S GOING TO BE TOUGH FOR ME. BUT ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS,

EVERYBODY? >> I QUESTIONS IT'S GOING TO COME UP LATER ON WITH THE

AMBASSADOR'S PROGRAM. >> ABSOLUTELY. >> AS FAR AS REVIEWING

APPLICATIONS, WHEN ARE THEY DUE? >> WE HAVE THEM ALREADY SOME WE'LL BE DISCUSSING THAT COMING UP, BUT WE'LL CONTINUE WITH THAT. WE DON'T... WE WOULD BE MEETING

AS SUBCOMMITTEES. >> LIKE A WORKSHOP? >> RIGHT, BUT A GENERAL MEETING,

THAT'S WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HERE. >> OKAY.

SO IF WE NEED TO MAKE A MOTION, I MAKE A MOTION THAT WE SKIP THE JULY MEETING AND COME BACK IN

SEPTEMBER. DO WE HAVE A SECOND? >>

>> I SECOND THE MOTION. >> ALL IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE.

>> AYE. >> ANY OPPOSED? OKAY.

[00:45:01]

THAT'S PASSED AS WELL. SO NEXT WE JUST MOVE ON TO OLD BUSINESS.

[9. Old Business]

AND FOR THAT, WE HAVE THE YOUTH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM AND ALSO THE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTED.

>> SO YES, WE WILL BE MOVING FORWARD THE YOUTH AMBASSADORS. OUR NEXT COMMISSION MEETING NEXT WEEK, WE ARE PRESENTING THE CURRENT YOUTH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS WITH THEIR SCHOLARSHIPS. THEIR LAST ACTUAL MEETING, WHICH IS THEIR EDUCATION ON FINANCE AND PROCURMENT, IS MONDAY, AND THEN WEDNESDAY THEY ACTUALLY COME TO RECEIVE THEIR SCHOLARSHIPS FROM THE CITY COMMISSION. SO YOU ALL ARE... YOU'RE A BIG PART OF THIS IN SELECTING AND SUPPORTING THE PROGRAMS, SO I INVITE YOU ALL TO BE HERE IF YOU

CAN FOR THE MEETING, AND WATCH THEM RECEIVE THEIR SCHOLARSHIPS. >>> IS THAT THE REGULAR MEETING?

>> YES. >> THE 17TH? >> THAT WOULD BE THE 17TH, YES, AT 7:00. SO WE'VE GOT OUR SECOND GROUP. WE GOT EIGHT APPLICATIONS.

SO THIS WILL BE A LITTLE TOUGH TO DECIDE. FIVE PEOPLE BETWEEN EIGHT APPLICANTS, BUT OUT OF OUR APPLICANTS, I BELIEVE I'M CORRECT OF SIX MSD STUDENTS AND TWO FROM AMERICAN HERITAGE. THEY AREN'T SPREAD OUT SCHOOLS, BUT THE MAJORITY FROM MSD.

>> HOW MANY DID WE HAVE LAST TIME, DO YOU REMEMBER OVERALL? >> I WANT TO SAY IT WAS SOMETHING LIKE 12 OR 15. IT WAS A BIGGER GROUP? 16? IT WAS 16. SO WHAT WE HAD AGREED IS THAT THE SUBCOMMITTEE THAT DID THE APPLICATION REVIEW AND THE SUBCOMMITTEE THAT DID THE ACTUAL INTERVIEWS FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP WOULD BE SWAPPED THIS TIME AROUND SOME THAT MEANS THAT THE APPLICATION REVIEW IS ANGELIKA, KKENDRA, DENISE, AND JEFF. AND THE INTERVIEW WOULD BE SHARRY, LAURIE, RUPERT, BILL, AND MARIANO. IN TAKING A LOOK AT THESE APPLICATION, WE CAN HAVE THEM READY AND SEND THEM TO YOU TO REVIEW FROM MAY 15TH TO MAY 26TH.

THAT'S WHAT I'M PROPOSING. THAT WILL GIVE YOU A TWO-WEEK WINDOW FOR REVIEW AND GETTING THE SCORES BACK THE MARCELLA. AND INTERVIEW, JUNE 6TH THROUGH JUNE 12TH.

I KNOW SCHOOL IS ENDING. PEOPLE WILL START GOING ON VACATION.

SO I WANTED TO HAVE YOU ALL TAKE A LOOK AT THOSE WEEKS AND LET US KNOW IF ANY OF THOSE WORK FOR YOU FOR THE INTERVIEWS. SO THAT WOULD BE SHARRY, LAURIE, RUPERT, BILL, AND MARIANO.

>> WHAT WERE THE TWO DATES? >> THE WEEK OF JUNE 5TH OR THE WEEK OF JUNE 12TH WE COULD MAYBE FIND A DAY IN THERE THAT WE HAVE SOME TIME TO HAVE ALL THE INTERVIEWS AT ONCE.

>> I WILL BE OUT OF TOWN THE 8TH, 9TH, 10TH, 11TH AND 12TH, BUT I'M

AVAILABLE ANY OTHER DAYS. >> IF YOU'D LIKE, I CAN JUST HAVE MARCELLA SEND OUT AN E-MAIL AND CHECK AND SEE IF THERE ARE OTHER DATES THAT WE NEED TO AVOID.

OKAY. BUT YOU KNOW, THE YOUTH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM AGAIN WILL BE THE $2,500 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR EACH OF THE PROGRAM ATTENDEES, AND TEN SERVICE HOURS PER MONTH DURING THE PROGRAM AND A LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION FROM THE MAYOR.

YOU KNOW, THIS YEAR'S PROGRAM WAS GREAT. IT WAS FIRST YEAR DOING IT, SO THERE'S A LOT OF LESSONS WE LEARNED, BUT IT'S GOING TO BE GREAT TO HEAR FROM THE PARTICIPANTS, WHAT THEY LEARNED FROM THE PROGRAM AS WELL AND WHAT THEY MIGHT WANT THE PASSES ALONG TO THE NEXT GROUP ABOUT, YOU KNOW, WHAT'S IMPORTANT FOR THEM TO CONSIDER DURING THIS PROGRAM. BUT WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT DOING IT AGAIN AND MAKING THIS A REGULAR THING FOR US. I WAS ON A WEBINAR YESTERDAY FROM FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES.

THEY TALKED ABOUT YOUTH COUNCILS. THEY HAD SOMEONE FROM MIRAMAR TALKING ABOUT THEIRS AND SOMEBODY FROM NICEVILLE. IN NICEVILLE, THEY HAVE HAD A PAM FOR TEN YEARS, YOUTH COUNCIL. THEY REALLY ENJOYED SEEING WHERE THE KIDS HAVE GONE IN THEIR LIVES. YOU KNOW, THEY'RE OUT OF COLLEGE MAYBE BUT NOW AND MAYBE SEEING, DID THEY END UP WITH A CAREER IN GOVERNMENT OR ARE THEY GIVING AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE REALLY PROUD THAT THEY HAD ONE OF THE FIRST STUDENTS WHO ENDED

[00:50:05]

UP GOING TO COLLEGE, COMING BACK TO THE AREA TO LIVE AND WORK, AND ENDED UP BEING ON ONE OF THE BOARDS FOR THE CITY. SO, YOU KNOW, THOSE ARE REAL NICE STORIES TO HEAR ABOUT.

SO I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT CLASS. >> I HEARD THEY DID A GREAT JOB

WITH THEIR PRESENTATION IN FRONT OF THE COMMISSION. >> THEY SURE DID.

THEY SURE DID. YEP. THEIR SEAL THE DEAL PROJECT, THEY PRESENTED THATTED TO COMMISSION. IT WAS VERY WELL RECEIVED.

THEY DID FANTASTIC JOB. AS WE EXPECTED, THEY KEEP GETTING BETTER AND BETTER, BUT EVEN FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, WE KNEW THAT THIS GROUP OF KIDS WAS GOING TO BE FANTASTIC.

>> I HEARD THEY GOT SOME PRETTY HARD QUESTIONS, TOO. THEY WEREN'T EASY ON THEM.

>> THAT'S TRUE. OUR COMMISSION, THEY'RE CURIOUS. THEY REALLY WANT TO KNOW, YOU KNOW, NOT ONLY THIS WORK THAT THE KIDS DID BUT HOW THEY FELT ABOUT IT AND WHAT THEY LEARNED FROM IT, TOO. I THINK THAT'S ONE OF THE BETTER THINGS.

AND THEY'RE GREAT, TOO. THEY TOOK TURNS ANSWERING THOSE QUESTIONS.

AND SOME OF THE QUESTIONS THAT THE COMMISSION HAD WERE FOR ALL OF THEM.

SO THEY TOOK THEIR TURNS COMING UP AND GIVING THEIR INPUT, BUT WE'RE LEARNING THINGS FROM THEM.

THAT'S THE IMPORTANT THING, NOT ONLY THAT THEY'RE LEARNING ABOUT LOCAL GOVERNMENT, BUT WE'RE UNDERSTANDING THE THINGS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO THEM, NOT ONLY AS TEENAGERS, BUT AS RESIDENTS OF THIS COMMUNITY, WHAT'S IMPORTANT, WHAT KIND OF THINGS DO WE NEED TO LOOK AT.

THAT BACK-AND-FORTH COMMUNICATION WITH THEM IS REALLY INVALUABLE.

THANK YOU. AND OUR LAST TOPIC IS THE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT.

SO I SPOKE WITH RENEE HERMAN LAST WEEK, AND SHE'S JUST SO SO EXCITED AND HAPPY THAT YOU ALL HAVE DECIDED TO WORK WITH HARVEST DRIVE AGAIN THIS YEAR. AS YOU SAW IN THE PACKET, THEY HAVE SOME DIFFERENT THINGS THAT THEY'RE LOOKING FOR THIS TIME AROUND.

THEY NEED EVERYTHING ALWAYS, AND THE TOILETRY DRIVE WAS SOMETHING THAT IS ONGOING AS WELL, BUT THIS TIME AROUND THEY'RE LOOKING FOR TOYS, AND THEY'RE LOOKING FOR CLOTHING, LINEN, AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS. WHAT THEY'RE FINDING IS THEY HAVE PEOPLE WHO JUST HAVE LOST EVERYTHING OR THEY'RE STARTING FRESH. RENEE WAS EVEN TELLING ME ABOUT SOME OF THE PEOPLE IN FORT LAUDERDALE WHO WERE FLOODED RECENTLY AND THERE'S PEOPLE WHO LOST EVERYTHING. AND THEY NEED TO START FRESH. SO YOU KNOW, EVEN THINGS LIKE BED LINENS AND TOWELS AND SOME FLATWARE, THINGS LIKE THAT PEOPLE NEED.

CHILDREN'S CLOTHING IS ALWAYS NEEDED AS WELL. SO THEY'RE LOOKING FOR THESE ITEMS THAT OF COURSE HAVE TO BE EITHER IN NEW CONDITION OR JUST VERY GENTLY WORN OR USED.

SO WHEN WE TAKE THESE THINGS IN, IT WILL BE IMPORTANT FOR US TO COMMUNICATE THE PEOPLE THAT WE'RE JUST NOT TAKING EVERYTHING, IT'S NOT A KIND OF A DUMPING GROUND FOR WHAT THEY ARE NOT LOOKING FOR BUT SOME THINGS THAT RA RENEE AND HER TEAM WILE ABLE TO SORT THROUGH EASILY AND PACK AND SET ASIDE IN THE SHOP THEY HAVE FOR THE FAMILIES WHO NEED IT.

SO WE'RE STILL WORKING ON THE SCHEDULE FOR THIS YEAR'S FARMERS' MARKET, AND AS SOON AS I GET THOSE DATES, THEN WE CAN MAYBE DECIDE WHICH ONE OF THE FARMERS MARKETS WOULD BE BEST IN TALKING WITH PARKS AND RECREATION TO HOLD THIS. THIS TIME AROUND WE'RE GOING TO NEED MORE THAN A TEBBIT FOR THESE TYPES OF ITEMS. SO WE'LL TALK ABOUT LOGISTICS AS WE GET CLOSER TO IT. WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO HAVE SOMETHING WHERE PEOPLE AS THEY'RE DRIVING IN MIGHT BE ABLE TO DRIVE UP, MAYBE HARVEST DRIVE.

RENEE SAID THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO BRING A VEHICLE BEFOREHAND THIS TIME AROUND.

SO MAYBE IF THEY HAD A TRUCK, KIND OF LIKE A U-HAUL TRUCK OR SOMETHING THEY COULD START LOADING THINGS IN THE BACK AS PEOPLE UNLOAD THEM FROM THEIR CARS.

WE CAN, YOU KNOW, MAYBE THANK THIS WORK A LITTLE BIT EASIER, AND WE'VE GOT PLENTY OF TIME NOW ALSO TO GET THE WORD OUT. SO YOU KNOW, WE HAVE ALREADY MADE THAT DECISION TO WORK WITH HARVEST DRIVE, BUT I WANTED TO LET YOU ALL KNOW WHAT THEY'RE LOOKING FOR THIS TIME AROUND AND

SEE IF THAT'S AMENABLE TO YOU ALL. >> EXCELLENT.

CAN I GO BACK TO THE YOUTH AMBASSADOR FOR A SECOND. WE HAVE EIGHT KIDS THAT ARE GOING TO COME FOR INTERVIEWS. I KNOW BEFORE IN THE PAST, DIDN'T WE HAVE A COUPLE OF DATES THAT WE USED TO OFFER THE KIDS AND NOT JUST GIVE THEM ONE SPECIFIC DAY.

>> WE COULD. WE COULD. JUST KNOWING IT'S A SMALLER

GROUP, WE COULD GET IT ONE DAY IF THEY CAN MAKE IT. >>> I'M JUST WONDERING...

>> 12 IN ONE DAY? >> UH-HUH. >> YEAH.

>> [INAUDIBLE] >> RIGHT, RIGHT, WE WERE TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD.

>> SO WE HAD TO JUMP THROUGH HOOPS TO GET ALL OF THE DIFFERENT SCHEDULES AND THE DATES KEPT ON MOVING AROUND. THAT WAS UNIQUE. BUT IF YOU CAN BANG IT OUT IN

ONE TIME FOR YOU GUYS IT WOULD BE A LOT EASIER. >> YEAH.

[00:55:03]

OKAY. I FIGURED WITH EIGHT KIDS, THEY EACH HAVE AGENT 15 MINUTES EACH,

SO WE CAN KNOCK IT OUT IN A COUPLE HOURS. >> TWO HOURS.

>> WE'RE DONE. I MEAN, I WOULD PREFER... I WAS JUST THINKING.

I KNOW WE NORMALLY HAD A COUPLE DAYS THAT WE USED TO DO IT. I WAS HOPING WE COULD DO IT IN

ONE DAY, JUST GET A DATE. YOU CAN -- >> WE CAN AIM FOR THAT.

>> OKAY. BECAUSE SHE'S NOT GOING TO BE HERE FROM THE 5TH THROUGH THE 12TH. I'M SURE YOU WROTE DOWN THE DATES.

SO I'M FIGURING -- >> I'M AVAILABLE THE WEEK, ANY TIME THE WEEK OF THE 12TH, THAT& WHOLE WEEK. -IF THAT'S THE CASE, LET'S MAKE IT THAT WEEK.

BECAUSE I'M SURE WE CAN FIGURE SOMETHING OUT AND JUST TELL THEM MAYBE GIVE THEM A COUPLE OF DATES OR JUST SAY, IT'S ON THIS DAY AND YOU HAVE TO BE THERE THAT DAY.

>> THAT'S USUALLY WHAT WE DO. >> OKAY, GOOD. ALL RIGHT.

IF WORST COMES TO WORST AND ONE KID SAYS, I'M SORRY, BUT I ALREADY HAVE A TRIP TO ISRAEL, THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO ACTED IT, I'M GONE AND NOT COMING BACK, MY PARENTS ALREADY PAID FOR THIS THING, MAYBE WE CAN FIGURE SOMETHING OUT TO DO A I DON'T WANT TO SEE A KID MISS AN OPPORTUNITY BECAUSE HIS PARENTS ARE PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR A TRIP.

SO WE CAN FIG YOUR SOMETHING OUT. >> WE'LL SEE WHAT WE CAN DO TO

ACOME DATE EVERYBODY. >> BUT ONE DAY, YEAH, GOOD. >> WE'LL AIM FOR THAT.

>> ALL RIGHT. GOOD. >> I'M SO SORRY.

I WANTED TO QUICKLY CIRCLE BACK TO THE ADOPT-A-STREET CONVERSATION.

I WASN'T ABLE TO PREVIOUSLY LOAD THE PACKET. BUT I DID JUST LOAD IT.

AND ACTUALLY ONE OF THE QUESTIONS THAT THE COMMISSION WAS SEEKING GUIDANCE FROM THE COMCOMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD IS T OTHER ISSUES SHOULD BE CONSIDERED.

THAT'S GREAT, BECAUSE NOW, THANK YOU, SHARRY, NOW WE HAVE THE MANDATE TO POTENTIALLY SHARE SOME OF THE REALLY AMAZING IDEAS THAT WERE BROUGHT UP BY EVERYBODY.

SO ON THAT NOTE, I WAS JUST WONDERING, IS THERE A FOLLOW-UP SPECIFICALLY TO THIS? IS THERE A WAY FOR US TO POOL SOME OF THE IDEAS THAT WERE SHARED TODAY AND THEN THOSE COULD BE SHARED WITH THE COMMISSION IN DIRECT RESPONSE TO THAT QUESTION?

>> WELL, TELL YOU THE TRUTH, THAT'S MY QUESTION. AND I WAS REALLY LOOKING AT WHAT ISSUES SHOULD BE CONSIDERED IF WE WERE PUTTING TOGETHER A ONE-TIME EVENT.

THAT WAS KIND OF THE FIRST QUESTION. >> GOT YOU.

>> BUT AGAIN, IT LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE ESTABLISHED AN INTEREST INTO LOOKING INTO SOME OTHER EVENTS. SO AS BILL HAD SAID, IF YOU ALL WANT TO SEND ME SOME IDEAS, MAYBE AT OUR NEXT MEETING WE CAN TALK ABOUT SOME OTHER IDEAS, KIND OF LIKE WE DID WITH HARVEST DRIVE AND WE DO EVERY YEAR. PEOPLE COME UP WITH IDEAS AND THOUGHTS AND YOU ALL DECIDE ON WHAT PROJECT YOU'D LIKE THE WORK ON. SO I'D BE HAPPY TO BE THE

INTAKING FOR ALL OF THAT AND WE CAN DISCUSS FOR SURE. >> BRIAN: GOOD.

I THOUGHT THAT WAS STILL ON THE TABLE, THAT WE'RE STILL GOING TO DO THAT.

WE WERE MOTIONING ON THAT. WE'LL STILL SEND IN OUR IDEAS. EXCELLENT.

>> THANK YOU. GOOD. MARIANO?

>> ARE THERE ANY WAYS TO KNOW THE QUESTIONS ON THE SURVEY, THE CITY SURVEY? IS THERE SOME OF THOSE QUESTIONS THAT PERTAIN TO THE SCOPE OF THIS BOARD?

>> ACTUALLY, THE SURVEY THAT EVERYBODY HAD TALKED ABOUT IS A SURVEY ABOUT THE NEW WEDGE PRESERVE PARK AND WHAT KINDS OF THINGS YOU'D LIKE TO SEE IN THE PARK AS A REDS.

THEY HAD SOME IDEAS. BILL MENTIONED PICKLEBALL. SO YOU GO ONLINE AND ACCESS THE

SURVEY THERE AND YOU CAN GO THROUGH THE QUESTIONS. >> OKAY, BUT THERE'S NOTHING RELATED TO -- OKAY. MY THOUGHTS WERE ON HOW TO ASSESS FROM THE COMMUNITY WHAT

IS MORE DEMANDING OR WHAT IS MORE NEEDED. >> WELL, THIS IS A GREAT, DIVERSE GROUP OF PEOPLE HERE ON THIS WORD WHO BRING A BUNCH OF FANTASTIC DIFFERENT IDEAS, SO I KNOW YOU ALL WILL COME UP WITH SOME GOOD IDEAS AND, YOU KNOW, YOU CAN TALK TO THE PEOPLE THAT YOU KNOW OUT THERE, YOU KNOW, OTHER PARENTS AND OTHER PEOPLE, NEIGHBORS, FAMILY THAT, YOU

KNOW, MIGHT HAVE SOME IMPUT FOR YOU. >> OKAY.

GREAT. ALL RIGHT. NEXT WE JUST HAVE COMMENTS FROM

THE STAFF. >> NOTHING ADDITIONAL FOR ME TONIGHT.

>> OKAY. GREAT. ALL RIGHT.

SO I WANT THE THANK EVERYONE FOR BEING HERE. OUR NEXT MEETING IS GOING TO BE IN SEPTEMBER. DO YOU KNOW THE EXACT DATE OR YOU'LL JUST LET US KNOW WHEN THE TIME COMES? BECAUSE I CAN'T SEE IT ON THE WEBSITE.

>> GIVE ME JUST A MOMENT. I KNOW WE HAVE IT HERE ON THE CALENDAR.

>> SEPTEMBER 12TH. OKAY. SO OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE

SEPTEMBER 12TH. >> SEPTEMBER 12TH AT 6:00. >> OKAY, PERFECT.

AND OKAY, I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE NOVEMBER MEETING IS AT 5:30. IS THAT SCHEDULED FOR 5:30 FOR A REASON? AGAIN, I WAS JUST LOOKING AT THE WEBSITE TODAY, BECAUSE I WAS

TRYING TO -- >> [INAUDIBLE]. >> THE CALENDAR.

YEAH. IT SAID 5:30. >> I DON'T THINK THERE IS ANY

REASON IN PARTICULAR. >> ALL RIGHT. SO THEY'RE ALWAYS GOING TO BE

[01:00:03]

6:00. THAT'S A TYPO. >> UNLESS THERE IS SOME OTHER CONFLICT IN THIS ROOM, IN WHICH CASE YOU'D ALL HAVE PLENTY OF NOTICE AND WE'D HAVE TO LET THE

PUBLIC KNOW AS WELL. >> ALL RIGHT. GREAT.

SO CAN I GET A MOTION TO ADJOURN? >> MOTION TO ADJOURN.

>> OKAY. SHARRY. DO I HAVE A SECOND?

>> I SECOND THE MOTION TO ADJOURN. >> A SECOND FROM KENDRA.

ANYONE OPPOSED? OKAY. WE ARE NOW ADJOURNED.

THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE. GREAT JOB.
