ANYONE ELSE FROM THE PUBLIC WISH TO SPEAK ON A NON-AGENDA ITEM? OKAY.
START WITH COMMISSION. WE WILL START WITH COMMISSIONER
FIRST, I WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE OUR DEAR FRIEND COMMISSIONER MAYERSOHN FOR BEING COMMISSIONER OF THE BROWARD LEAGUE OF CITIES. [APPLAUSE] I THINK IT IS A VERY COOL THING, NOT ONLY FOR HIM TO HAVE BEEN A BOARD MEMBER BUT NOW TO BE THE PRESIDENT AND ALSO BE ABLE TO REPRESENT NOT ONLY PARKLAND BUT ALSO BROWARD AT LARGE AND WE ARE ALL EXCITED TO SEE WHAT YOU DO AND I ALSO LIKE TO CONGRATULATE OUR VICE MAYOR, WHO HAS BEEN AWARDED A QUILL AWARD BY THE FLORIDA HISTORICAL SOCIETY.
IT WAS ACTUALLY NOMINEE BY THE FLORIDA SUPREME COURT, FREEZER SAID HE HAD DONE A SUPREME COURT JUSTICE IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA THAT EVEN THE PEOPLE HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN WORKING THERE FOR YEARS HAD KNOWN NOTHING ABOUT.O HE WILL GET THAT HONOR AND I CONGRATULATE YOU.
[APPLAUSE] LAST THING I WILL TOUCH ON IS THE BUFFALO SHOOTING. WHICH OBVIOUSLY IS A SENSITIVE SUBJECT IN ANY STATE OR CITY. BUT ESPECIALLY HERE AND WHAT'S REALLY SAD, IS NOT ONLY THE CONTINUATION OF THE GUN VIOLENCE, BUT NOW SEEING THAT WITH RACISM AND BIGOTRY.
I THINK THE PROBLEM NOWADAYS IS THE LACK OF CIVILITY AND PEOPLE LOSING THE ABILITY TO FIND COMMON GROUND AND TO ADD TO THAT, I THINK MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AND ALL OF THAT IS A COMBINATION THAT I THINK IS VERY DANGEROUS.
AND YOU KNOW, FOR US FORTUNATELY HERE LOCALLY, HAVE A NUMBER OF ORGANIZATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN BORN OUT OF SITUATIONS LIKE THIS AND THEY ARE DOING AMAZING WORK OF TRYING TO MAKE A CHANGE AND I THINK FOR ALL OF US, WHO ARE HERE TO HOPEFULLY CONTRIBUTE TO THESE CAUSES AND FIND A WAY TO
[00:05:01]
GET INVOLVED BECAUSE I THINK THE MORE IS BECOMING COMMON THEM HARDER IT IS TO STOP AND I'M CONFIDENT THAT WE WILL.I THINK IT NEEDS ALL OF US I ASKED EVERYONE TO LOOK INTO THE LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS AND SUPPORT THEM AS MUCH AS YOU CAN.
THANK YOU. >> WELL SAID, COMMISSIONER.
COMMISSIONER BRIER. >> THANK YOU.
ALSO WANT TO CONGRATULATE COMMISSIONER MAYERSOHN.
CONGRATULATIONS ON SERVING IN THAT ROLE.
WE NOW HAVE OUR THIRD REPRESENTATIVE OF THE COMMISSION HERE SERVING AS THE PRESIDENT OF BROWARD LEAGUE OF CITIES. ALSO WANT TO CONGRATULATE THE VICE MAYOR CUTLER, WHO CONTINUES TO AMAZE WITH HIS ABILITY TO RESEARCH AND PROVIDE HISTORICAL CONTEXT TO OUR WORLD TO MAKE US MORE EDUCATED AND POPULAR SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
WE HAD OUR STATE OF THE CITY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PARKLAND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE LAST WEEK. FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DIDN'T MAKE IT, IT IS A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY.
WE ARE GOING TO DO AS YOU GO FORWARD BUT IT'S A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR RESIDENTS AND BUSINESS COMMUNITY TO FIND OUT WHAT PROJECTS THE CITY IS WORKING ON, WHAT'S GOING ON WITHIN THE CITY AND THE PROGRESS OF THOSE DIFFERENT PROJECTS SO THANK YOU TO THE CHAMBER FOR THAT.
TONIGHT, WAS BEFORE OUR WORKSHOP, WAS THE RELAY FOR LIFE WRAP UP PARTY I GUESS YOU CAN CALL IT AND RELAY FOR LIFE IS JUST A GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS SERVING AN AMAZING CAUSE FOR THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY AND IT WAS ON THE HEELS OF THE GREAT EVENT A MONTH OR SO A GO AT STONEMAN DOUGLAS.
YOU KNOW WITH BUFFALO, A LOT OF US GET DESENSITIZED BUT FOR THOSE OF US IN PARKLAND REMEMBER FAR TOO WELL.
WHEN YOU HEAR IT, YOU SAY IT IS NOT MY COMMUNITY BUT WE KNOW WHAT COMES WITH THAT AND THE LINGERING EFFECTS OF THAT.
PSO I WANT TO SEND, NO COMMISSIONER CUTLER REACHED OUT TO THEIR COMMISSION AND THE FOLKS THERE WHICH I THOUGHT WAS AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY TO NOT ONLY SEND OUR HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES BUT ALSO LET THEM KNOW THAT YOU AS A LEADER, ON THE DAIS AS WELL AS I MEAN VICE MAYOR AND THE COMMISSIONER MAYERSOHN WERE NAVIGATING AS WE WENT TO THE SHOOTING SO PROVIDING THAT I THINK WILL BE A GREAT COMFORT TO THEM.
WE HAVE OUR MEMORIAL DAY COMING UP ON SUNDAY, MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND 5:30 P.M. AT THE AMPHITHEATER.
AND I WOULD ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO COME OUT TO THAT.
IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY THE PARKLAND RESIDENTS COME OUT, REMEMBER THOSE WHO HAVE LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES AND SACRIFICED SO MUCH FOR OUR LIBERTIES AND OUR FREEDOMS. IT IS NOT ONLY A SOMBER EVENT, BUT IT IS A HEARTWARMING EVENT.
THERE IS SOME MEASURE OF SADNESS, BUT IT IS A VERY OPTIMISTIC EVENT BECAUSE YOU HEAR THE SACRIFICES THAT THESE MEN AND WOMEN MADE FOR OUR COUNTRY, FOR OUR LIBERTY AND IT IS INSPIRING SO WOULD ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO ATTEND.
THANK YOU MAYOR. >> WELL SAID.
COMMISSIONER BRIER, COMMISSIONER MAYERSOHN?
>> FIRST OF ALL, CONGRATULATIONS TO COMMISSIONER CUTLER. I KNOW THAT YOU HAVE DONE A LOT OF WORK ON THAT SUPREME COURT ISSUE WITH UNCOVERING THINGS I DON'T THINK ANYBODY WOULD HAVE THOUGHT SO CONGRATULATIONS.
I DO WANT TO THANK ALL OF THESE FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
AS THE PRESIDENT OF LEAGUE OF CITIES AND AGAIN, I TALKED ABOUT EMBRACE ONE BROWARD AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN DO THAT COLLABORATIVELY. I KNOW WE TOUCHED ON THE MASS SHOOTING LAST WEEK THAT TOOK 10 LIVES.
IN THE BUFFALO STORE GROCERY. TO ME, AND IT WAS PROBABLY THE MOST HEART WRENCHING. NOT ONLY DID I GO TO SCHOOL IN BUFFALO, BUT I ALSO WAS A SWEET MATE THERE WITH HER FRIENDS WE DID REACH OUT, AND TO THE MAYOR I OFFERED OUR HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES IS A CITY OF COMMISSION.
AND WE ARE HERE, WHATEVER HIS NEEDS WOULD BE.
THAT IS SOMETHING I DID WHEN I MADE THE CALL.
I ALSO WANT TO CONGRATULATE ADAM -- THE CITY OF HOLLYWOOD ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER. HE IS A PARKLAND RESIDENT.
HE WAS NAMED THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2022 -- [INAUDIBLE] HE WAS RECOGNIZED FOR HIS WORK WITH THE CARES ACT, WHICH ENSURE THAT ALL MUNICIPALITIES RECEIVE MUCH-NEEDED FUNDING THAT WE
[00:10:03]
NEEDED. THANK YOU ADAM, FOR THAT.ALSO WANT TO SAY THAT MS. SELTZER, PLUS WHAT RIVER GLADES, I ATTENDED OR PARTOOK OF HER CUPCAKE EXTRAVAGANZA.
SHE MADE OVER 2500 CUPCAKES FOR TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK.
AND THEY MAKE IT A MONTH AS OPPOSED TO JUST A WEEK.
WE DID SHARE SOME I THINK THEY GIVE JACKIE SOME, I DON'T THINK THE CUPCAKES MAY OUT OF THE OFFICE.
NEXT TIME SHE DOES IT GO THERE AND YOU WILL GET SOME CUPCAKES.
I DO WANT TO RECOGNIZE THIS IS EMS WEEK.
I THINK WE ARE RECOGNIZING ONE OF OUR EMERGENCY TELE-COMMUNICATORS. THEY DO AN INCREDIBLE JOB.
THE STRESS OF THEREUNDER, IT IS JUST IMMENSE, SO THANK YOU TO OUR EMS EMERGENCY UNTIL COMMUNICATORS.
JUST TO, AND I GUESS THIS IS MORE FOR NANCY.
ANOTHER IS BEEN SOME ISSUES THAT HAVE BEEN PERCOLATING REGARDING, I GUESS THE COUNTY NUMBER ONE EMERGENCY SYSTEM.
THERE ARE A LOT OF TIMES THAT PEOPLE WILL CALL 911 AND MAY NOT TRULY BE AN ACTUAL EMERGENCY BUT SOMEBODY HAS TO PICK UP THE PHONE AND SOMEBODY HAS TO RESPOND.
SO WE CAN PUT OUT OUR NONEMERGENCY NUMBER, THE KIND OF DIRECT THE RESIDENTS IF THEY NEED TO CALL FOR HELP, SUICIDE TYPE OF THING THAT THEY ARE GOING THROUGH, MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, MAYBE CALL 2-1-1. I KNOW THAT IN JULY, THE NATIONAL HOTLINE NUMBERS CHANGED TO 9-8-8 IF WE CAN PUT THAT ON SOME SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS, THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL. THIS WEEK IS ALSO NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK. SO, I DO WANT TO THANK.
PUBLIC WORKS DOES. THEY DO A GREAT JOB IN MAINTAINING OUR FIELD AND I KNOW THAT THROUGH CHRISTINE, THAT THEY HAVE ESTABLISHED A DIFFERENT MAINTENANCE PLAN.
IT WILL HELP MAKE THOSE FIELDS LOOK A LITTLE BIT GREENER.
I WANT TO THINK OF WHAT THEY DO.
SPEAKING OF PUBLIC WORKS RESIDENTS TO RESTART REGARDING SOME LANDSCAPING MEDIUMS IN THE CITY.
ANOTHER PROBABLY HOA AGREEMENTS.
IF WE COULD JUST, GO THROUGH THEM AND TO MAKE SURE TRAVEL ON THE CITY TO MAKE SURE OUR MEDIANS ARE LOOKING TO THE STANDARDS THAT WE EXPECT. AND THEN FINALLY, I JUST WANT TO GET THOUGHTS OF MY COLLEAGUES.
I KNOW THAT THE COME OUT ADVISORY BOARD PARKS AND REC ADVISORY BOARD SELECTED ARITABLE BENEFACTORS.
AGAIN, WHAT THE E PROCESS IS, WE CAN ALWAYS LOOK AT, WE REACH OUT TO THE PARKS AND COMMUNITY ADVISORY ORY BOARD BUT THE ORGANIZATIONS SELECTED ARE NOT ON OUR CHARITABLE LIST.
AND I'M JUST CURIOUS TO KNOW IF THERE'S A CONNECTION TO PARKLAND. THUS WE WANT TO ACHIEVE WHEN WE ARE WORKING WITH A ORGANIZATION.
NOT THAT WE HAVE TO DISCUSS IT TONIGHT BUT JUST WANT TO SEE WHETHER OR NOT THE COASTER NANCY OR -- THOSE ARE MY
COMMENTS. >> GREAT, THANK YOU COMMISSIONER MAYERSOHN. VICE MAYOR CUTLER.
>> THANK YOU, MAYOR. I TOO, WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE BOB MAYERSOHN AGAIN FOR HIS ELECTION TO THE BROWARD LEAGUE OF CITIES PRESIDENT AT THE 65TH ANNUAL GALA THAT THEY HAD, IT IS IMPORTANT TO RECOGNIZE THE FACT THAT THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE CITY OF PARKLAND TO REALLY HAVE HIS VOICE HEARD IN FRONT OF ALL OF THE CITIES AND THE COUNTY. AND BOB WILL DO AN EXCELLENT JOB DOING THAT. I COMMEND HIM FOR STEPPING UP AND FILLING THAT ROLE. I'M GLAD, AND THANK YOU GEMMA FOR YOUR KIND WORDS ABOUT THE REPORT I GOT OVER THAT I WILL GET TOMORROW. I REALLY APPRECIATE IT.
IT WAS UNEXPECTED AND THANK YOU FOR RAISING THE ISSUE REGARDING BUFFALO BECAUSE I WANTED TO ADDRESS THAT.
IT COMES ON THE HEELS OF UNFORTUNATELY, RECEIVING A TEXT MESSAGE THE OTHER DAY THAT WE LOST SOMEONE TO A GUNSHOT WOUND THAT WAS SELF-INFLICTED. THREE DAYS AGO, A GUNMAN OPENED
[00:15:02]
FIRE IN A TOPS FROM THE MARKET IN A PREDOMINANTLY BLACK NEIGHBORHOOD IN BUFFALO LEAVING 10 PEOPLE DEAD.YESTERDAY PRESIDENT BIDEN TRAVELED THERE TO VISIT THE SCENE OF SATURDAY'S RACIST MASSACRE AT THE GROCERY STORE, CALLING ON AMERICANS TO REJECT WHITE SUPREMACY AND CRITICIZING THE RACIST CONSPIRACY THEORY THAT INSPIRED THE SHOOTER.
AND ASSISTED WITH LOCAL LEADERS, LOCAL LEADERS JUST LIKE WE ARE, HE SAID, WHITE SUPREMACY IS A POISON.
IT'S A POISON RUNNING THROUGH OUR BODY POLITIC AND IT HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO FESTER AND GROW RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR EYES.
NO MORE. WE NEED TO SAY IT AS CLEARLY AND FORCEFULLY AS WE CAN, THAT THE IDEOLOGY OF WHITE SUPREMACY, HAS NO PLACE IN AMERICA.
ANNA WANTED TO BE HEARD RIGHT HERE FROM THIS DAIS.
AFTER THE SHOOTING, A DOCUMENT ALLEGEDLY TITLE GUNMAN EMERGED ONLINE AND INCLUDES RACIST, ANTI-IMMIGRANT VIEWS AND CITES THE REPLACEMENT THEORY OF FAR RIGHT WHITE NATIONALIST CONSPIRACY THEORY THAT BASELESSLY CLAIMS THAT WHITE PEOPLE IN AMERICA ARE BEING SYSTEMATICALLY REPLACED BY PEOPLE OF COLOR. WE HAVE NOW SEEN TOO MANY TIMES THE DEADLY AND DESTRUCTIVE VIOLENCE THIS IDEOLOGY UNLEASHES. JOE BIDEN CALLS UPON ALL AMERICANS TO REJECT THE LIE. HE CONDEMNS THOSE WHO SPREAD THE LIE FOR POWER, POLITICAL GAIN AND PROFIT AND SO DO I. ON SUNDAY ANOTHER HATE SHOOTING IN A TAIWANESE CHURCH KILLED ONE AND LEFT FIVE WOUNDED AND ACCORDING TO THE GUN VIOLENCE ARCHIVE, FLORIDA HAS HAD 10 MASS SHOOTINGS SO FAR IN 2022.
THAT IS IN FIVE MONTHS. AT THE SAME TIME, THIS WAS ALL GOING ON, FLORIDA'S GOVERNOR ENACTING LAWS TO BAN BOOKS TO PREVENT TEACHERS FROM EXAMINING WHAT THEIR STUDENTS THE WAYS THAT RACIAL INEQUALITY IS FACILITATED AND THE WAYS OUR HISTORY HAS CREATED THESE INEQUALITIES THAT NOW CAN ALMOST BE EFFORTLESSLY REPRODUCED UNLESS WE ATTEND TO THE EXISTENCE OF THESE INEQUALITIES.
AND BANNING CLASS DISCUSSIONS OF THE LGBTQ ISSUES THAT ARE NOT AGE APPROPRIATE DEVELOPMENT WE APPROPRIATE FOR STUDENTS.
THE LAW WOULD IN EFFECT, ALLOW PARENTS WHO FEEL A TEACHER VIOLATED THIS LAW, TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION IF THEY BELIEVE THEIR FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT TO MAKE DECISIONS REGARDING THE UPBRINGING AND CONTROL OF THEIR CHILDREN HAS BEEN UNDERMINED IN THEIR CHILD'S SCHOOL. THAT LAW BASICALLY SAYS, YOU CAN SUE THE TEACHER. JUST THE OTHER DAY, AT WEST GLADES, OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL, A KID DREW A SWASTIKA ON THE BATHROOM WALL. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THAT'S HAPPENED HERE IN OUR CITY.
OUR CITY! AFTER WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS PARKLAND COMMUNITY IN 2018, HAVEN'T WE HAD ENOUGH OF THE DIVISIVENESS? HAVEN'T WE SEEN AND HAD ENOUGH OF GUN VIOLENCE? HATRED? IDEOLOGIES OF ANGER AND CHAOS? AS A STUDENT OF HISTORY, I CAN SAY THAT WE ARE NOT NOW DESTINED, BUT WE ARE IN FACT REPEATING A CYCLE OF HATE AND BIGOTRY AND VIOLENCE THAT WE WENT THROUGH IN THE EARLY 1900S, RIGHT HERE IN FLORIDA.
WERE RACIAL VIOLENCE AND HATRED ALLOWED FOR MARCHES AND LYNCHINGS AND CROSS BURNINGS RIGHT HERE IN OUR COUNTY.
I CALL UPON ALL PEOPLE OF GOOD CONSCIENCE TO REJECT THESE IDEOLOGIES OF HATRD. REJECT THE RECKLESSNESS OF ALLOWING WEAPONS OF WAR TO BE PLACED IN THE HANDS OF MENTALLY ILL PEOPLE. AND MAKE SURE THAT YOUR VOICES ARE HEARD BY ALL OF OUR LEADERS, THAT THE DIRECTION WE ARE GOING IN, THE CYCLE OF REPETITIVE DIVISIVENESS MUST STOP CLEARLY AND FORCEFULLY. A CALL UPON THIS COMMISSION WHEREVER WE CAN, AND WHATEVER WAY WE CAN, TO CONDEMN THE DIVISIVENESS AND VIOLENCE THAT IS TEARING OUR COUNTRY APART, AND I ASK YOU MY FRIENDS, MY NEIGHBORS.
TO SEARCH YOUR HEART AND FIND WAYS TO REACH OUT YOUR HAND TO YOUR FELLOW HUMANS. NO MATTER THEIR RACE, CREED, COLOR, RELIGION, SEXUAL PREFERENCE, AND HELP RAISE OUR HUMANITY.O A HIGHER PLACE. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
VICE MAYOR, I CERTAINLY CANNOT SAY IT BETTER THAN THAT.
BUT IT IS SOMETHING THAT WE NEED TO CONTINUE TO THINK ABOUT AND ACT UPON HOW WE TREAT OTHERS.
THE HATRED, EVERYWHERE IS REALLY AFFECTING OURSELVES,
[00:20:01]
IT'S AFFECTING OUR CHILDREN AND IT PERPETUATES ITSELF.IF WE DON'T STOP IT NOW, IS GOING TO CONTINUE HAPPENING BECAUSE WE ARE NOT TEACHING OUR CHILDREN THE RIGHT WAY TO ACT.
SO I MEAN, YOU SAID IT PERFECTLY.
ANY CHANCE YOU GET, TO TREAT PEOPLE KINDLY, TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE LOOKING OUT FOR THEM AND INSTILL THOSE VALUES AND YOUR CHILDREN. WE CAN HOPEFULLY SOMEDAY, AND ALL OF THAT. OBVIOUSLY, CONGRATULATIONS TO THE VICE MAYOR ON YOUR AWARD, AND COMMISSIONER MAYERSOHN, IT IS TRULY AN HONOR TO HAVE BEEN SERVING WITH YOU FOR THIS MANY YEARS. AND TO SEE HOW MUCH WORK YOU PUT IN, NOT JUST THE CITY OF PARKLAND, BUT TO EVERYONE ELSE.
AND I THINK SOMETIMES THAT GETS MISSED ON PEOPLE.
HOW MUCH OF AN IMPACT IT HAS. YOU KNOW IT REALLY DOES, AND AGAIN, IT IS AN HONOR, A WELL-DESERVED YOU KNOW, YEAR YOU WILL HAVE IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE BROWARD LEAGUE OF CITIES. YOU WILL DO A FANTASTIC JOB AND LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT AND OBVIOUSLY, I KNOW WE ALL FEEL THAT WAY. WHATEVER WE CAN DO TO HELP, WE ARE ALWAYS THERE FOR YOU. I ALSO WANT TO MENTION TODAY IS THE FOURTH YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE -- SHOOTING.
TODAY WE TALKED ABOUT BUFFALO, AGAIN, IT GOES BACK TO HOW WE TREAT PEOPLE, HOW WE ACT, IF WE ACT RIGHT AND WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN TO ACT RIGHT, THAT SHOULD RUB OFF ON HER NEIGHBORS AND IT SHOULD RUB OFF ON OUR FRIENDS.
AND IF WE ALL DO IT THEN AGAIN, IT IS A CHAIN REACTION.
IT IS GETTING NEAR THE END OF SCHOOL, I DO WANT TO THANK ALL OF OUR TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, FOR ALL OF THEIR HARD WORK MAKING SURE PARKLAND CONTINUES TO HAVE A RATED SCHOOLS AND I CANNOT FORGET BUT TO THANK ALL THE PARENTS WHO GIVE THE EXTRA EFFORT, THEY VOLUNTEER WHEN NEEDED. YOU KNOW, THEY HELP THE CHILDREN WITH SCHOOLWORK. THAT'S ONE OF THE THING THAT SEPARATES PARKLAND, THE INVOLVEMENT OF OUR PARENTS.
NOT ONLY ARE THE TEACHERS FANTASTIC AND ADMINISTRATORS, BUT OUR PARENTS OR THEIR DAY IN AND DAY OUT MAKING SURE THAT OUR KIDS ARE DOING THEIR HOMEWORK, GETTING THE SCHOOL ON TIME AND ALL OF THOSE DIFFERENT THINGS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY EXCEL IN THE CLASSROOM. AND I WANT TO THANK THAT IT'LL STUDENTS, ANYONE GRADUATING, CONGRATULATIONS, LOOKING FORWARD TO SEE WHAT EVERYONE'S DOING AND IT IS GREAT TO SEE SO MANY KIDS HERE. WE WILL HAVE MORE JUNE 15.
THERE ARE JUST SO MANY THINGS GOING ON IT, MST BASEBALL TEAM SOFTBALL TEAM, VOLLEYBALL TEAM. YOU NAME IT, ANYTIME YOU TURN AROUND THERE'S ANOTHER TEAM, WHETHER IT IS DECA, SCAN EMAIL ABOUT -- AWARDS. EVERYWHERE YOU TURN AROUND, THERE IS SUCCESS IN THE CITY OF PARKLAND.
MSD, WEST GLADES AND IT IS AMAZING TO SEE AND I LOVE THE OPPORTUNITY OF HAVING THE KIDS HERE, THE PARENTS HERE, TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE HARD WORK AND YOU KNOW, IS JUST FANTASTIC.
STATE OF THE CITY. I WOULD JUST BE GOING OVER WHAT THE COMMISSIONER SAID. IT WAS AMAZING TO PARTNER WITH THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. I REALLY ENJOYED FOR ME, THE STATE OF THE CITY, I REALLY ENJOYED THAT BECAUSE I LOVE HOW WE WORK TOGETHER. IT REALLY, I HAVE A TON OF FUN WORKING WITH YOU GUYS UP HERE AND I LOVE THAT WE ALL BRING SOMETHING DIFFERENT IN THE STATE OF THE CITY SHOWED THAT.
[6. Proclamations and Recognitions]
E ALL HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO TALK AND DISCUSS SOME OF THE DIFFERENT PROJECT AND THAT WAS VERY EXCITING.WITH THAT BEING SAID, WE ARE GOING TO MOVE ON TO THE PROCLAMATIONS AND RECOGNITION. I'M GOING TO GO A LITTLE OFF SCRIPT. BEFORE WE START.
WE ALL CONGRATULATED BOB. I WON'T SAY COMMISSIONER, OUR FRIEND BOB, I'M BEING INSTALLED IS PRESIDENT OF BROWARD LEAGUE OF CITIES. I'M GLAD TO HAVE THEM HERE AT HOME. WE HAVE A PROCLAMATION THAT WE WANT TO READ FOR YOU BOB. LET'S GO DOWN IN THE WELL.

IT IS A THANKLESS JOB BUT A REALLY IMPORTANT JOB. I HAVE A TRIBUTE THIS IS ALL THE AMAZING THINGS YOU'VE DONE ALL THESE YEARS BUT I THINK WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO TALK ABOUT IS JUST YEAR A PERSON WHO DOES THE WORK. YOU'RE A PERSON WHO HAS SERVED AND VOLUNTEERED IN THIS COMMUNITY DECADES BEFORE YOU EVER RAN FOR ELECTED OFFICE. I WANT TO SEND THANK YOU BOB MAYERSOHN FOR ALL YOU DO FOR ALL OF US. [APPLAUSE]
[00:35:03]
>> AND WE HAVE -- I HAVE TWO MORE PROCLAMATIONS TO READ.
CAN YOU COME DOWN HERE? EVERY DAY, 100 AMERICANS ARE KILLED BY GUN VIOLENCE. AND ON AVERAGE, THERE ARE 13,000 GUN HOMICIDES EACH YEAR. MERICANS ARE 25 TIMES MORE LIKELY TO BE KILLED WITH GUNS, THEN PEOPLE IN OTHER DEVELOPED COUNTRIES. SUPPORT FOR THE SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS OF LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS GOES HAND-IN-HAND WITH KEEPING GUNS AWAY FROM DANGEROUS PEOPLE.
THE PANDEMIC FACING AMERICA HAS DRASTICALLY IMPACTED COMMUNITIES AND INDIVIDUALS SHELTERING IN PLACE, WHICH MAY RESULT IN SITUATIONS WHERE ACCESS TO FIREARMS RESULTS IN INCREASED RISK AND INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE GUN DEATHS, SUICIDE BY GUN AND UNINTENTIONAL SHOOTING.
THE TRAGIC EVENTS OF MARJORY STONEMAN DOUGLAS HIGH SCHOOL WERE GUN VIOLENCE RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF 17 STUDENTS, AND FACULTY AND WOUNDING OF 17 OTHERS, BRINGS GREATER ATTENTION TO THE NEED FOR AWARENESS.
WEARING ORANGE ON THE FIRST WEEKEND OF JUNE, 2022, IS URGED TO HELP RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT GUN VIOLENCE IN AMERICA.
BE IT RESOLVED I MAYOR, RICH WALKER AND THE CITY OF TRAMMELL, CITY COMMISSION HEREBY PROCLAIM FRIDAY, JUNE 3, NATIONAL GUN VIOLENCE AWARENESS DAY.
I JUST WANT TO HAVE CAPTAIN -- SAY A COUPLE OF WORDS.
>> IF ANY COMMUNITY UNDERSTANDS GUN VIOLENCE IT IS US.
WHAT CAN WE DO? ON OUR LOCAL LEVEL, THE THING WE ASK IS THAT TO SECURE FIREARMS. IT IS A COUNTLESS AMOUNT OF FIREARMS STOLEN OUT OF UNLOCKED VEHICLES IN THE CITY OF PARKLAND ON A WEEKLY BASIS.
PLEASE, TAKE THEM IN, LOCK THEM UP.
IT'S KIDS, TEENAGE KIDS STEALING THESE GUNS.
THEY ARE USING THEM OR SELLING THEM SO WE JUST ASK IF YOU ARE A GUN OWNER, LOCK IT UP, BE RESPONSIBLE.
>> THANK YOU. DO YOU GUYS WANT TO COME DOWN AND TAKE A PICTURE WITH US HERE? AND THANK YOU CAPTAIN, IT IS REALLY, IT SEEMS NOW EVERY MEETING WE HAVE, WE ARE HEARING OF CARS BEING STOLEN, PEOPLE LEAVING THEIR KEY FOB IN THEIR CAR AND A LOT OF TIMES, A FIREARM IS TAKEN. SO IT IS SERIOUS STUFF THAT WE NEED TO TAKE THE EXTRA CARE AND MAKE SURE WE ARE ETTING THAT OUT TO OUR NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS.
LETTING THEM KNOW, GUN SAFETY IS BEYOND IMPORTANT.
>> MY NAME IS ELIZABETH, VOLUNTEER WITH BROWARD COUNTY CHAPTER OF MOMS -- GUN SINCE AMERICA.
WANT TO THANK MAYOR WALKER ON BEHALF OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FEATURING THE PROCLAMATION DECLARING JUNE 3 2022 NATIONAL GUN VIOLENCE AWARENESS DAY. ALTHOUGH GIVEN WHAT WE DISCUSSED IN BUFFALO AND LAGUNA WOODS AND MILWAUKEE, OVER THE WEEKEND, IF YOU HONESTLY NEED A PROCLAMATION TO DRAW YOUR AWARENESS IN THIS COUNTRY YOU'RE NOT PAYING ATTENTION ESPECIALLY IN PARKLAND. FIRST FRIDAY JUNE HAS BEEN DECLARED NATIONAL GUN VIOLENCE AWARENESS DAY IN HONOR OF.
LIFE AND THE LIVES OF ALL VICTIMS OF GUN VIOLENCE BY WEARING ORANGE ON THAT DAY. WE ALSO HONOR ESPECIALLY THIS YEAR, COLLEGE. EVERY YEAR, CHAPTERS OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION ALSO SUPPORT OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES ON THE DAY.
THIS YEAR BROWARD COUNTY CHAPTERS HOLDING FOOD DRIVE FOR THE PANTRY OF BROWED INK THAT SERVES SENIORS LIVING ON LOW FIXED INCOMES AND GRANDPARENTS RAISING THEIR GRANDCHILDREN.
WE WILL ALSO USE THE OPPORTUNITY TO WRITE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR BE SMART CAMPAIGN WHICH MAKES GUN OWNERS AWARE OF THE DANGERS OF HAVING UNSECURED WEAPONS IN OUR HOMES.
ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE ARE CHILDREN PRESENT.
2021, THERE WERE AT LEAST 377 UNINTENTIONAL SHOOTINGS BY CHILDREN, RESULTING 154 DEATHS. 70 PERCENT OF UNINTENTIONAL SHOOTINGS BY CHILDREN OCCUR IN THE HOME.
[00:40:03]
ALSO, TWO THIRDS OF FIREARM DEATHS IN THE US ARE SUICIDES.SUICIDE ATTEMPTS USING FIREARM RESULT IN DEATH 9/10 TIMES.
THERE ARE MUCH OTHER TYPES OF ATTEMPTS.
THIS EASY ACCESS TO UNSECURED FIREARMS IS DEADLY.
FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE STRUGGLING. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ALL GUN OWNERS TO HEAR AND HOPE THAT PARKLAND WILL MAKE OUR BE SMART MESSAGE SAFE GUN STORAGE PART OF THE CITY CAMPAIGN TO KEEP OUR CHILDREN AND OTHER VULNERABLE PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY SAFE. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR DECLARING JUNE 3, 2023 NATIONAL VIOLENCE AWARENESS DAY.
>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH. [APPLAUSE]
>> OKAY. MIKE, DO YOU WANT TO COME DOWN HERE? THIS IS THE MOST I HAVE READ IN QUITE SOME TIME.[LAUGHTER] EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE IS A VITAL PUBLIC SERVICE. THE MEMBERS OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE TEAMS ARE READY TO PROVIDE LIFE SAVING CARE TO THOSE IN NEED 24 HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK.
ACCESS TO QUALITY EMERGENCY CARE DRAMATICALLY IMPROVES THE SURVIVAL AND RECOVERY RATE OF THOSE WHO EXPERIENCE SUDDEN ILLNESS, OR INJURY IN EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE PROVIDERS HAVE TRADITIONALLY SERVED AS THE SAFETY NET OF AMERICA'S HEALTHCARE SYSTEM. THE MEMBERS OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE TEAMS ENGAGE IN THOUSANDS OF HOURS OF SPECIALIZED TRAINING AND CONTINUING EDUCATION TO ENHANCE THEIR LIFESAVING SKILLS AND AMERICANS BENEFIT DAILY, FROM THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS OF THESE HIGHLY TRAINED INDIVIDUALS. INJURY PREVENTION AND APPROPRIATE USE OF THE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, WILL HELP REDUCE NATIONAL HEALTHCARE COSTS.
THIS YEAR'S THEME OF EMS WEEK, IS EMS RISING TO THE CHALLENGE.
AND THAT THEME IS CARRIED OUT EVERY DAY IN THE CITY OF PARKLAND. IT'S APPROPRIATE TO RECOGNIZE THE VALUE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE PROVIDERS, BY DESIGNATING EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE WEEK.
BE IT RESOLVED I MAYOR, RICH WALKER, AND THE CITY OF PARKLAND CITY COMMISSION, HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF MAY 15, 2022, AS EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK.
THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU GUYS DO.
[APPLAUSE] >> REAL QUICK, THANK YOU TO THE MEN AND WOMEN OF OUR DEPARTMENT HERE.
IT IS A PLEASURE TO SERVE THE RESIDENTS OF PARKLAND AND WE ARE FORTUNATE THAT TRAINING THAT YOU TALK ABOUT ALLOWS US THESE MEN AND WOMEN OF OUR DEPARTMENT TO PROVIDE SOME OF THE BEST SERVICES AROUND THE COUNTRY.
WE HAVE SOME OF THE MOST HIGHEST SURVIVAL RATE FOR CPR THAT THERE IS AROUND THE NATION.
NEXT PROCLAMATION WILL BE TALKING ABOUT HOW WE ARE FORTUNATE THAT WE CAN INCREASE THAT BECAUSE OF OUR WONDERFUL SYSTEM. WE APPRECIATE THE RECOGNITION THANK YOU GUYS FOR YOUR HARD WORK.
>> THANK YOU! [APPLAUSE] OKAY, YEAH. THANK YOU.
WHO'S GOT THE -- WHO'S GOT, YOU GUYS WANT TO STAY UP? WHO'S GOT THE, YOU DO? ALL RIGHT.

THE JOB OF TELE COMMUNICATOR -- [APPLAUSE] THE JOB OF A TELE COMMUNICATOR, WHEN THE PHONE RINGS IN AN EMERGENCY NUMBER WAS SENT TO A TELE COMMUNICATOR ANSWERS.
FREQUENTLY THEY ARE TALKING TO SOMEONE AT THE WORST MOMENT OF THEIR LIFE. TO DO THAT DAY IN AND DAY OUT IS EXTRAORDINARY DIFFICULT TO SUSTAIN OVER TIME IS UNTHINKABLE. AND IT IS SO VERY IMPORTANT.
[00:45:02]
SHAUNTE REID WAS RECOGNIZED BY THE BROWARD COUNTY COMMISSION FOR EXEMPLARY WORK AS EMERGENCY TELE TOURNIQUET OF THE CORAL SPRINGS FIRE DEPARTMENT.THE WORK OBVIOUSLY HAS DIRECT IMPACT ON THE SAFETY OF PARKLAND RESIDENTS.SHAUNTE REID RECENTLY SPARED A CALL AND WHERE SHE CALMLY PROVIDED CPR INSTRUCTIONS BY PHONE IN A SITUATION WHICH THE PATIENT WAS SAID TO BE WITHOUT A PULSE.
SHE HANDLES TENSE LIFE OR DEATH SITUATIONS WITH A CALM THAT IS BOTH UNBELIEVABLE AND EXAMPLE OF HOW THE JOB SHOULD BE DONE.
ON TOP OF THAT CRITICAL LIFESAVING WORK, SHE IS WIDELY KNOWN FOR HER POSITIVE ATTITUDE.
FOR HER EFFORTS ON APRIL 26 THE BROWARD COUNTY COMMISSION PRESENTED HER WITH THE THOMAS W GALLAGHER JUNIOR MEMORIAL PUBLIC SAFETY AWARD. AN AWARD GIVEN ANNUALLY TO EMERGENCY TELE COMMUNICATORS. >> ITEM 9C RESOLUTION 2022 Ã 024, RESETTING FIELD AND BE AT TERRAMAR PARK ÃPIGGYBACK. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY PARK IN FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE PIGGYBACK OF THE SOURCE WELL EASY I QC CONTRACT NUMBER FL R10 GC 02111821 SCD FOR RESETTING FIELD AND BE AT TERRAMAR PARK IN THE AMOUNT OF $252,205 TO SHIFT CONSTRUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT AND PROVIDED FOR EXECUTION, PROVIDING FOR EFFECTIVE DATE.
>> IF I MAY SAY SOMETHING ON THIS ITEM AS WELL.
THE LAST ITEM WE WERE UNDER BUDGET BY $420,000.
THIS PROJECT, WHICH WAS NOT NECESSARILY ON THE STRATEGIC PLAN AND SOMETHING WE IDENTIFIED AS A DRASTIC NEED.
ANYBODY THAT GOES BACK ON FIELDS A AND B KNOWS WHAT POOR SHAPE THEY ARE. AND THEY WERE A SAFETY HAZARD IN THE CONDITION THEY ARE RIGHT NOW.
TO BE ABLE TO GO UNDER BUDGET AND ANOTHER PROJECT, TO IDENTIFY THE NEED AND FIND TO BE ABLE TO DO IT AND GET UNDER BUDGET BECAUSE WERE $420,000 UNDER BUDGET THIS PROJECT IS 252,000 SO THAT STILL LEAVES US $170,000 UNDER BUDGET.
FOR NOW, FOR THOSE LISTENING, TERRAMAR PARK IS GONE THROUGH, BY THE SUMMER OF THIS YEAR, HAS GONE THROUGH A TOTAL TRANSFORMATION. FIELD THREE, WHICH IS UNDERUTILIZED FIELD, BASEBALL FIELD, JUST FINISHED, WE JUST COMPLETED MAKING TWO NEW SOFTBALL FIELDS, LITTLE LEAGUE FIELD WHICH WAS, NOW MAKES THOSE FIELDS USED ALL THE TIME.
AND I'VE HEARD NOTHING BUT YOU KNOW KUDOS, HOW GREAT THOSE FIELDS ARE. WE ADDED, WE HAD TWO BATTING CAGES, NOW WE HAVE THREE. SO WE HAVE ONE ADDITIONAL BATTING CAGE, WE GOT A NEW PLAYGROUND AT TERRAMAR.
THE BASKETBALL COURTS WERE JUST RESURFACED.
WE ARE NOW DOING, WORKING ALREADY ON FIELD C AND D, MAKING THOSE ASTROTURF AND ADDING PARKING SPOTS.
AND NOW, WE ARE ADDING RESURFACING, REGRADING, LEVELING OUT FIELDS A AND B, TERRAMAR IS ABSOLUTELY TRANSFORMED INTO A BRAND-NEW PARK.
NOT ONLY THAT, WE DID ALL OF THE BUSHES OUTSIDE YOU KNOW, OF
THE PARK. >> AND IS THERE PICKLE BALL
BUT THAT'S RIGHT! WE GOT THREE NEW PICKLE BALL.
I REMEMBER WHEN I FIRST GOT ELECTED OR, I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS WHEN I WAS A COMMISSIONER OR MAYOR OR WHATEVER.
WE WERE DOING A LOT OF THINGS AT -- AND EVERYONE SAYS YOU'RE TRYING TO DO EVERYTHING IN PINE TRAILS.
IT'S ABOUT THE COMMUNITY, IT'S WHATEVER YOU CAN DO, AS MUCH AS YOU CAN DO TO MAKE THE COMMUNITY A BETTER PLACE.
IT IS NOT ONE SPECIFIC AREA. AND I'M I'M PROUD THAT TERRAMAR HAS GONE TO THAT TRANSFORMATION.
IT BENEFITS ALL OF THE RESIDENTS, , NOT JUST THOSE ON THE OUTSIDE OF TOWN EVERYONE USES THOSE AND WE ARE REALLY EXCITED TO SEE THIS COME TO COMPLETION.
YOU KNOW, HAVING A AND B AND ADDING THE TURF FIELDS BECAUSE IT'S MUCH NEED FOR THE CITY BECAUSE THE GROWTH HAS BEEN EXPONENTIAL AS FAR AS KIDS PLAYING SPORTS AND WHAT HAVE YOU. I'M VERY PROUD AND I CANNOT BE MORE PROUD OF THE STAFF KEEPING THIS, THE PROJECT UNDER BUDGET, UNDERSTANDING THE NEED TO GET THIS DONE AND BE ABLE TO USE THOSE FUNDS IN A DIFFERENT AREA.
I CAN'T BE MORE PROUD OF HOW CITY STAFF HAS SHIFTED.
A LOT OF PEOPLE SAY GOVERNMENT MOVES SLOW.
WHILE THAT IS TRUE MOST OF THE TIME, WE WERE ABLE TO IDENTIFY AND FIX A PROBLEM BASED ON ADDITIONAL FUNDS THAT WE HAD FROM A PROJECT THAT WAS WELL UNDER BUDGET.
YES, COMMISSIONER MAYERSOHN? >> I JUST WANT TO ECHO OBVIOUS THE SAME SENTIMENT BUT ONE THING I WANT TO ADD.
THIS IS GOING TO BE LASER GRADED, CORRECT? THEN I DO NOT KNOW, I GUESS I WILL TURN TO NANCY, I DON'T KNOW THE LAST TIME WE LASER GRADED THE FIELD.
IT WAS PROBABLY MAYBE NEVER. A LONG TIME AGO APPEARS THAT AS AN ENHANCEMENT TO MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER.
AND THEN, KUDOS TO THE PUBLIC WORKS AND COMPANIES WITH PARKS AND RECREATION BECAUSE I'VE SEEN AN IMPROVEMENT IN THE FIELD. INITIALLY, THE CONCERN WAS THAT WE WISH THROWING GOOD MONEY THE BAD BUT THIS IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT I'M CONFIDENT IN THE ENANCE PROGRAM TO ENSURE
[01:05:03]
THAT THOSE FIELDS ARE GOING TO BE KEPT IN QUALITY CONDITION.THE THING THEY ADD IS THAT WHAT I KNOW YOU GUYS ARE DOING, JUST REMIND ND THE COACHES, WE GET SOME OF THE YOUNGER KIDS THERE IN THE FIELD, DIGGING HOLES, THAT'S WHAT'S UNFORTUNATELY, YOU HAVE TO RE-SOD AND REPLANT ANYWAY.
YOU JUST CAN'T FILL THEM UP AND BECOMES A PROBLEM.
>> THAT IS SOMETHING WE DID TWO YEARS AGO IN OUR STRATEGIC PLANNING. WE EMPHASIZED THE NEED FOR US TO STEP UP OUR GAME AND MAINTENANCE AND YOU GUYS HAVE 100 PERCENT HAVE COME THROUGH. AND THIS IS ANOTHER INDICATION OF YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN AND YOUR WILLINGNESS TO TAKE ACTION. I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER.
>> MOTION TO APPROVE. >> SECOND.
>> ANYONE FROM THE PUBLIC WISH TO SPEAK ON THIS AGENDA ITEM? MOTION TO APPROVE AND SECOND. ROLL CALL.
[10. Comments by the Broward Sheriff's Office]
UNANIMOUSLY. COMMENTS BY THE BROWARDSHERIFF'S OFFICE. >> GOOD EVENING, SHERIFF'S OFFICE. I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR INCLUDING ME IN THE PROCLAMATION. IT AFFECTS ALL OF US.
CRIME IN THE CITY. YESTERDAY MORNING WE HAD A PRETTY SIGNIFICANT -- THREE HIGH-END VEHICLES WERE STOLEN.
FORTUNATELY, ONE OF OUR DETECTIVES WERE SITTING AROUND 441, SEEING THE HIGH-END VEHICLES GOING BY QUICKLY.
WENT TO A GAS STATION GOT ONE OF THE TAGS, TOOK OFF.
THEY ALL LEFT. OUR DETECTIVE RAN THE TAGS AND THEY DID ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS STOLEN.
ENDED UP WITH THE HELP OF THE RESIDENT AND THE TRACKING SYSTEM, THE RESIDENCE IN THE CITY OF TAMARAC, THERE WERE FIVE JUVENILES HIDING THE STAIRWELL, WE FORTUNATELY WERE ABLE TO APPREHEND ALL FIVE. ANOTHER TWO VEHICLES THAT WERE THERE, ALSO STOLEN FROM CYPRUS HAD.
IT DIDN'T SURPRISE ANYONE THAT THEY ALL HAD -- IT WAS A GREAT JOB BY OUR GUYS. IT COULDN'T HAVE WORKED OUT ANY BETTER. OTHER THAN THEM NOT BEING STOLEN. A VERY GOOD JOB, I'M VERY PROUD OF OUR DEPUTIES, THE CITY OF TAMARAC DEPUTIES WORK TOGETHER, IT WAS A GREAT RESULT. JUST A REMINDER, THEY JUST WENT
>> OF THE JUVENILES WAS WANTED FOR FOUR COUNTS OF ARMED ROBBERY. IN ANOTHER CITY.
THESE ARE KIDS, BUT THEY ARE DANGEROUS.
THEY ARE COMING TO THE CITY. LET'S REMOVE THE REASON WHY
THEY ARE COMING HERE. >> I THINK, I MEAN IT'S A FANTASTIC POINT. I THINK THE HER FACEBOOK AND SOCIAL MEDIA, YOU KNOW, CRIME IN PARKLAND SPIKING APPEAR THERE FOUR CAR STOLEN. PWE ARE LEAVING OUR KEYS IN THE CAR. I MEAN, EVERYONE KNOWS WE DO THAT! SO JUST BECAUSE YOUR KEY FOB IS IN YOUR CAR DOES NOT GIVE THE RIGHT FOR SOMEONE TO STEAL IT.
BUT CLEARLY, THEY KNOW IT IS A SOFT TARGET.
YOU KNOW, IF YOU'RE GOING TO DO SOMETHING BAD, YOU'RE GOING TO HIT AN EASY TARGET. YOU WON'T GO SOMEWHERE WHERE YOU KNOW YOU GOT TO BREAK A WINDOW OR WHATEVER.
YOU'RE LIKE, LET ME DISCLOSE PPARKLAND, I'LL TRY FIVE DOORS AND THREE WILL OPEN! THAT IS JUST, IT IS MIND-BOGGLING THAT WEEK AFTER WEEK, WE HAVE THESE MEETINGS AND WE HEAR THE SAME THING. BUT KUDOS TO YOUR OFFICERS, AND OBVIOUSLY TAMARAC AND RESPONDING AND DOING WHAT HAD TO BE DONE. BUT AGAIN LIKE YOU SAID, IT'S A REMINDER TO ALL RESIDENTS, IT'S NOT HARD TO PUT YOUR KEY.
MY KEY FOB IS RIGHT HERE. JUST PUT IT, BRING IT -- IT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE ANY SENSE THAT YOU DON'T BRING IT.
>> GO AHEAD. >> I WAS GOING TO SAY, IT'S AMAZING WORK BUT HOPE EVERYONE LISTENING TONIGHT, IF THERE'S ONE THING MADE CLEAR, BETWEEN EMS AND FIRE SAFETY AND SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT AND POLICE, WE ARE SO LUCKY TO HAVE ALL OF YOU AND THE AMOUNT OF INVESTMENT THAT THE CITY HAS MADE IN SAFETY AND PROTECTION AND HEALTH AND WELL-BEING, IS IMMEASURABLE! BUT THESE ARE THE MOMENTS IT
[01:10:01]
REALLY DEMONSTRATES. SO THANK YOU, PLEASE SEND OUR WORDS THE REST OF THE TEAM IT'S AMAZING WORK.THANK YOU AGAIN. >> AND ABSOLUTELY AMAZING WORK BUT TOTALLY UNNECESSARY.ND THAT IS THE PROBLEM.
IT IS DISTRACTING YOUR OFFICERS FROM BEING ABLE TO ADJUST THE SAFETY CONCERNS THAT ARE IN THE COMMUNITY WITHOUT BEING MANUFACTURED BY RESIDENTS. THAT'S A CONCERN THAT I HAVE AND IT CONTINUES TO BE AN ISSUE.
ONE OF THE COUNTERPOINTS, BECAUSE WE ON THE STATUS HAVE BEEN PREACHING IT EXHAUSTIVELY, IS TO TAKE YOUR KEY FOBS IN THE HOUSE. ONE OF THE COUNTERPOINTS OF HER RECENTLY WHICH PROBABLY IS NOT TRUE BUT I WANT YOU TO ADDRESS IT PUBLICLY, IS THAT THERE IS SOME CLONING DEVICE THAT CRIMINALS CAN TAKE WHERE THEY SCAN, EVEN A KEY FOBS ARE INSIDE THE HOUSE, THEY CAN SCAN THEM IN MIRROR AND DUPLICATE THEM BUT HAVE YET TO HEAR OF A ROBBERY OR CAR THEFT WHERE THAT IS THE CASE AND IT IS NOT AN ACTUAL PHYSICAL --
>> WE HAVE HEARD ABOUT IT BUT NOT IN THE HOUSE.
MANY PEOPLE THEY WALK IN THE GARAGE DOOR AND HANG THE KEY FOBS. [INAUDIBLE] IN THE PAST YEAR MAYBE 2016, TWO BMWS MAY HAVE BEEN TAKEN WITH THE SCANNER. AS FAR AS THEM JUST GO IN THE DRIVEWAY AND FINDING IT, THEY HAVE TO BE CLOSE PROXIMITY.
BUT YOU CAN HAVE IT IN THE CAR IN THE GARAGE.
>> I JUST WANT TO ECHO FOR THE RESIDENCE, THE STATEMENTS OF THE MAYOR AND COMMISSIONER ISROW IN YOU, DON'T MAKE IT EASY. AND THE OTHER THING, AND THE RESIDENTS MAY NOT APPRECIATE THIS.
YOU'RE ATTRACTING THE WRONG KIND OF PEOPLE INTO PARKLAND.
EVEN THOUGH THEY MAY BE THERE LOOK FOR A KEY FOB IN A CAR AND TAKE IT, THEY ARE CRIMINALS. AND THEY MAY ENGAGE IN OTHER CRIMINAL ACTS WHILE THEY ARE HERE.
SO DON'T MAKE IT EASY AND DON'T PULL THEM INTO OUR CITY.
>> COMMISSIONER MAYERSOHN? >> TWO QUICK QUESTIONS WERE KIND OF REMINDERS. NUMBER ONE, NO BSO AT ONE POINT IN TIME WAS WORKING ON A PROGRAM.
I KNEW WE DID IT ONCE IN CONJUNCTION WITH CORAL SPRINGS AND DRAMA FIRE AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO ANSWER NOW BUT I WANT TO KNOW IF THAT IS COMING DOWN THE ROAD AS WELL AS THE --
>> WE CAN DISCUSS TIP A COP, WE HAVE LOOKED INTO IT.
WE ARE TRYING TO COME UP WITH A DATE.
[11. Comments by the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department]
>> OKAY, THANK YOU. >> COMMENTS BY THE CORAL SPRINGS ÃPARKLAND FIRE DEPARTMENT.
>> GOOD EVENING. LAST MONTH WE HAD 136 EMS CALLS AND ONE FIRE INCIDENT WHICH WAS SURPRISINGLY, A GAS LEAK.
WE BEEN HAVING A LOT OF THOSE BETWEEN THE TWO CITIES AND WE HAVE DONE OUR BEST TO EDUCATE AFTER THE MITIGATION IS COMPLETE, WE'VE DONE OUR BEST TO EDUCATE THE PEOPLE IN THOSE AREAS WORKING BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT ONLY EXTREMELY DANGEROUS INCIDENTS, BUT VERY COSTLY. NOT ONLY FOR US BUT FOR THEM TO FIX. WE ARE DOING OUR BEST TO EDUCATE AS WELL. ONE OTHER QUICK THING, THANK YOU AS WELL, FOR RECOGNIZING OUR TELE-COMMUNICATOR.
THEY'RE WONDERFUL PEOPLE AND THEY DO AN AMAZING JOB AND NICE TO RECOGNIZE THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE LOCKED IN A DUNGEON SOMEWHERE. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THAT.
>> I WANT TO THANK YOU PUBLICLY, FOR SHARING THE HONOR GUARD FOR THE GALA. WE WERE ABLE TO REACH OUT AND
MAKE THAT HAPPEN. >> THANK YOU.
