>> HERE. >> LAURA PLOTNICK.

>> WE HAVE APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM OUR NOVEMBER 9, 2021, MEETING. CAN I GET A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES? OKAY.

ANYBODY FOR A SECOND? >> I SECOND.

>> ALL IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE.

>> AYE. >> ANYONE OPPOSED? OKAY PLEASE SHOW THAT IT PASSED UNANIMOUSLY.

[5. Public Comments]

NEXT ON THE AGENDA ARE COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS. DO WE HAVE ANYBODY FROM THE PUBLIC THAT WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK? HOW ARE YOU DOING, TANIKA?

>> GOOD EVENING EVERYONE. >> GOOD EVENING.

>> SO GOOD TO SEE YOU ALL, HAPPY NEW YEAR.

>> HAPPY NEW YEAR. >> SO I JUST WANTED TO COME UP AND THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING TO MEET US IN DECEMBER.

I KNOW IT'S THE MIDDLE OF THE HOLIDAYS, IT TAKES A LOT OF PEOPLE'S TIME. SO WE'RE GRATEFUL FOR THE TIME THAT YOU GUYS TOOK TO MEET WITH US.

WE GOT A CHANCE TO DEBRIEF AFTER THE MEETING NOT JUST WITH THOSE THAT WERE THERE BUT THEN THOSE THAT WANTED TO BE THERE BUT WEREN'T ABLE TO MAKE IT. SO ONE OF THE THINGS WE REALIZE IS THAT IT FELT LIKE SOMETHING HAS SHIFTED IN OUR DISCUSSION IN DECEMBER FROM SOME OF OUR PREVIOUS CONVERSATIONS.

WE SIGNED UP TO KIND OF THINK ABOUT TWO DIFFERENT PROGRAMS THAT WE CAN DO WITH THE SUBCOMMITTEE.

IT SEEMS LIKE WE STILL HAVE A LOT MORE PROVING TO DO TO YOUR TEAM THAT THERE IS A NEED FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS OR THAT THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO DO SOME INCLUSIVE PROGRAMMING. SO IT SEEMS LIKE WE WANTED TO START WITH MAYBE SOME OF THAT LEVEL WORK FIRST BECAUSE IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE THE TEAM HAS REALLY BOUGHT INTO WHAT WE WERE TALKING ABOUT. WE CAN DEFINITELY START WITH THAT. BECAUSE I THINK OUR TEAM WAS A LITTLE BIT DISCOURAGED AFTER OUR CONVERSATION TO BE HONEST WITH YOU. WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK WITH OUR HOA AS DISCUSSED. BUT WE ARE TEN PEOPLE COVERING SEVEN DIFFERENT HOAS. THAT'S WHY WE WERE THINKING THE CITY MAY BE A BETTER AVENUE TO HELP WITH SOME OF THIS NEW INCLUSIVE PROGRAMMING. AND IN TERMS OF THE CULTURAL NIGHT, THIS WAS AN IDEA THAT WASN'T NECESSARILY FROM US, IT'S ANOTHER GROUP THAT WAS REALLY VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT IT.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO EXPLORE THAT WITH YOUR TEAM.

BUT THAT PERSON WHO COULDN'T MAK IT HERE TONIGHT, BUT SHE WAS PLANNING ON BEING HERE, SHE'S GOING TO TRY TO COME TO THE NEXT MEETING IN TWO WEEKS. SHE CAN TELL YOU ABOUT HER VISION AND HER OPPORTUNITIES FOR FUNDING AND THINGS THAT MAY BE ABLE TO KIND OF HELP THE COMMITTEE ALONG A LITTLE BIT MORE IN TERMS OF RECOGNIZING THAT THERE MAY BE AN OPPORTUNITY HERE TO BRING THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER.

>> I SAY ALL OF THAT TO SAY WE'RE GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY. WE'LL CONTINUE TO WORK WITH YOU TO THE EXTENT THAT YOU GUYS ARE OPEN TO IT.

AND WE WANT TO KEEP THE LINES OF COMMUNICATION OPEN.

BUT WE'RE JUST NOT REALLY SURE. IT JUST FELT LIKE THE ATMOSPHERE FELT A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT THAN SOME OF OUR PREVIOUS MEETINGS.

AND WE JUST WANT TO KIND OF DO SOME OF THAT FREE WORK WITH YOU TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ALSO FEEL THE NEED TO DO SOME OF THIS

[00:05:02]

INCLUSIVE PROGRAMMING. YOU GUYS ALL KNOW HOW TO REACH ME. YOU ALL HAVE MY EMAIL ADDRESS.

JUST WANT TO KEEP THE LINE OF COMMUNICATION OPEN AND TAKE IT

FROM THERE. >> I FOR ONE ENJOYED THE NIGHT THAT WE HAD TOGETHER. I THINK WE SPOKE ABOUT A LOT OF THINGS. BUT LIKE YOU SAID, I THINK WE SHOULD CONTINUE AND MAYBE WE CAN SCHEDULE ANOTHER DATE FOR THE SUBCOMMITTEE TO MEET AGAIN AND MAYBE WE CAN HASH OUT SOME OF

THESE CONCERNS. >> HAPPY TO DO THAT.

I DO FEEL LIKE THERE WOULD BE A LOT OF GREAT OPPORTUNITIES.

WE TALKED IN OUR PREVIOUS MEETING IN THE NOVEMBER MEETING, WE STARTED TO THINK ABOUT THE PLAYGROUND AT THE SYNAGOGUE.

A LOT OF MY FRIENDS DONATED TO THAT.

WE ARE SO EXCITED ABOUT WHAT THAT'S GOING TO BECOME.

AND EVEN PROGRAMMING FOR THE SPORTS LEAGUE THAT CAN'T PARTICIPATE ON SATURDAYS. ALL OF THIS IS ALL IN THE SAME REALM. SO WE JUST WANTED TO, IT ALL TO BE CONSIDERED TOGETHER AND NOT JUST SEPARATED FROM THAT.

AND WE JUST WANTED TO KIND OF SET THE RIGHT FOUNDATION BEFORE WE MOVE FORWARD. TO ME IT FELT LIKE, IT FEELS LIKE WE KIND OF NEEDED TO PROVE THAT THERE WAS A NEED TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS BEFORE WE MOVE FORWARD.

AND WE'RE WILLING TO HAVE THOSE TYPE OF CONVERSATIONS FIRST BEFORE WE TAKE UP TOO MUCH OF YOUR TIME.

THAT'S KIND OF WHAT WE WERE THINKING.

>> THERE'S ALWAYS A NEED FOR IT. >> YEAH.

>> THERE'S ALWAYS A NEED TO IMPROVE.

THERE'S NO QUESTION ABOUT IT. I THINK WHAT THE PURPOSE OF THE MEETING MORE WAS WAS TO HEAR WHAT YOUR CONCERNS WERE.

>> OKAY. >> THAT WAS KIND OF WHAT WE WERE GETTING AT, TO FIND OUT WHAT IS IT, GIVE US SOME SPECIFICS THAT WE KNOW HOW TO TARGET THOSE PROBLEMS THAT WE HAVE.

AND WE CAN BRING IT BACK TO THE COMMISSION TO DECIDE HOW WE CAN HANDLE THESE CONCERNS. IT WAS MORE ABOUT THAT IN OUR FIRST MEETING. BUT WE KNEW THERE WERE GOING TO

BE MORE MEETINGS. >> WE APPRECIATE THAT.

AND I WAS NOT UNDER THAT UNDERSTANDING.

IF THAT WAS THE CASE, WE WOULD HAVE BROUGHT MORE PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY HAD SPECIFIC INSTANCES THAT MADE THEM MORE CONCERNED OR RAISED THEIR LEVEL OF AWARENESS. THOSE PEOPLE DO EXIST AND THEY WANT TO COME AND SHARE THEIR STORIES THEY'RE JUST NOT AS COMFORTABLE DOING IT WITH CAMERAS.

BUT WE CAN DO THAT IN THE SUBCOMMITTEE.

AND THE WOMAN I SPOKE TO WOULD LOVE TO SHARE HER STORY.

SHE'S KIND OF REFERENCED A LITTLE BIT IN OUR DISCUSSION.

BUT SHE HAS A RELATIONSHIP WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT.

BUT SHE IS THE ONE WHO'S REALLY THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND --

>> CAN SHE BE AT THE MEETING? >> SHE'LL BE THERE.

>> OH PERFECT. >> SHE COULDN'T COME TONIGHT.

I WAS HOPING I COULD SPEAK AND SHE COULD SPEAK, BUT SHE COULDN'T COME TONIGHT. OUTSIDE OF THAT, WE WILL GET HER IN FRONT OF THE SUBCOMMITTEE AND WE WILL START WITH THOSE TYPES OF STORIES AND DISCUSSIONS AND MOVE FROM THERE.

>> YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO PROVE TO ANYBODY.

>> OKAY. >> THAT'S NOT WHAT THE MEETING WAS ABOUT, I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT.

WE JUST WANTED TO HEAR WHAT YOUR CONCERNS WERE.

>> UNDERSTOOD. >> AND NOW THAT YOU HEARD SOME OF THE CONCERNS, YOU HAVE OBVIOUSLY SOME OTHER ONES THAT YOU WANT TO BRING UP AT THE NEXT MEETING.

THAT'S GREAT. BUT NOW FROM THERE, WE CAN START MOVING FORWARD OF WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO.

>> THAT SOUNDS GOOD. AGAIN I THINK WE NEED TO BUILD A

FOUNDATION. >> EXACTLY.

AND THAT'S WHAT I THINK THE FIRST MEETING WAS ABOUT, TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE THE FOUNDATION WAS, WHERE THE PROBLEMS LIE, WHETHER IT WAS A CITY ISSUE, POLICE ISSUE, HOA

ISSUE. >> IT'S GOING TO BE EVERYTHING.

IT'S GOING TO BE A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING.

I THINK THAT'S WHAT WE'RE RECOGNIZING IS THAT IT'S GOING TO BE A MULTIPRONG APPROACH TO REALLY MAKING EVERYBODY FEEL INCLUDED. I THINK WE SHOULD TURN THE PAGE FROM DIVERSITY. BECAUSE DIVERSITY IS ALREADY HERE. IT'S REALLY ABOUT INCLUSION.

>> THAT'S A GREAT WAY TO PUT IT. >> YEAH, EXACTLY.

SO WE APPRECIATE THAT. WE'RE HAPPY TO CONTINUE THE

CONVERSATIONS. >> WE'RE NOT GOING TO STOP THE CONVERSATIONS. WE'RE GOING TO KEEP THIS GOING.

YOU'RE A PART OF THIS SUBCOMMITTEE.

IT'S NOT ENDING. >> EXACTLY.

WE'RE CONTINUING. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> THANKS FOR COMING. ABSOLUTELY, ANY QUESTIONS?

>> SO FIRST OF ALL --

[00:11:34]

>>> I APPRECIATE THAT AND WE WILL LOOK AT BOTH OPTIONS.

I'M JUST A SPOKESPERSON ON BEHALF OF MORE PEOPLE.

THE PERSON WHO CAME UP WITH THE CULTURE NIGHT WAS LIKE I WANT INDIAN DANCERS, AFRICAN DANCERS, AN IRISH DANCING GROUP.

SHE HAS HUGE VISIONS AND WE WERE TALKING ABOUT MAYBE WITH THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS THEY HAVE A CULTURAL NIGHT AND BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER. I MENTIONED THAT TO HER AND SHE WAS LIKE THAT'S NICE BUT. SO I DON'T KNOW, I'M GOING TO BRING HER TO THE TABLE SO SHE CAN START TO HAVE THESE DISCUSSIONS WITH THE BROADER SUBCOMMITTEE.

SHE'S VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS. AGAIN THIS WAS HER BABY.

THAT WAS ONE OF THE IDEAS THAT WE WERE TRYING TO COME TO THE SUBCOMMITTEE AS A UNIFIED FORUM AND IT WAS REALLY FOR HER.

I'M GOING TO LET HER EXPLORE THAT.

I THINK SHE'S OPEN TO THAT BEING A COMPONENT OF IT.

I THINK THAT WILL BE REALLY FUN. I CAN'T REMEMBER YOUR ORIGINAL POINT. OH YEAH, SO THE SUMMARIES FOR THE SCHOOL, I LIKE THAT IDEA. I THINK THE IDEA TOO IS TO UNDERSTAND HOW THE SRO WANTS TO GET INVOLVED.

I FEEL LIKE WHAT I WAS HEARING WAS THEY KNOW ALL OF THE KIDS NAMES. THEY HAVE A SENSE OF WHAT WE WOULD NEED TO TALK TO THE STUDENTS ABOUT.

WE HAVE OUR OWN IDEAS. BUT WE'RE AN OUTSIDE ORGANIZATION THAT WANTS TO GO THROUGH THE RIGHT CHANNELS.

SO I THINK IT'S GOING TO REQUIRE ALL CHANNELS COMING TOGETHER AND DECIDING WHAT THE BEST WAY TO MAKE IT IMPACTFUL FOR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. THESE CONVERSATIONS ARE JUST STARTING SO WE'LL SEE HOW THEY EVOLVE OVER TIME.

BUT I'M EXCITED ABOUT, I THINK MORE PEOPLE WERE EXCITED ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY WITH THE KIDS THAN ANYTHING ELSE.

WE DO WANT TO CONTINUE TO DEVELOP RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE OFFICERS. ALL OF THAT THAT WAS BROUGHT TO THE TABLE BUT WE DO NEED TO HAVE A BETTER RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM IN LIGHT OF EVERYTHING THAT'S HAPPENING AND WE'RE NOT SURE WHAT THAT'S GOING TO LOOK LIKE. BUT WE ARE COMMITTED TO DOING THAT IN A WAY THAT MAKES SENSE FOR BOTH ENTITIES AS WELL AS THEM. SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO KEEP THINKING ABOUT IT. WE'RE NOT SURE WHAT THAT'S GOING

TO LOOK LIKE. >> ONE OF OUR MEMBERS HERE, SHERRY, BECAME THE MEMBER OF HER ASSOCIATION.

SHE REACHED OUT TO ME BECAUSE WE HAVE AN INCLUSIVE AND DIVERSITY COMMITTEE. AND SHE WANTED TO KNOW WHO OUR PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD IS. SHE'S ALREADY REACHED OUT TO HIM AND ACTUALLY HE'S MENTORING HER RIGHT NOW ON HOW TO START HER

OWN. >> AWESOME.

YEAH. >> I DON'T KNOW HOW SHE DOES THIS WITH HER SCHEDULE SHE'S GOT GOING ON.

>> I KNOW. >> I WAS NOT AT THE LAST DIVERSITY SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING. I WAS IN DENVER VISITING MY SON AND I'M NOT REALLY SURE WHAT TOOK PLACE.

BUT MOVING FORWARD WITH EXTREME POSITIVITY, WE EMBRACE YOU, WE EMBRACE THE IDEAS AND I KNOW THAT WE CAN MAKE SOMETHING GREAT HAPPEN. SOMETHING IMPORTANT AND

MEANINGFUL FOR THE COMMUNITY. >> ANYBODY ELSE?

[00:15:04]

>> I JUST WANT TO SAY I'M SORRY THAT YOU GUYS FELT THAT WAY.

I REALLY FELT GOOD ABOUT THE MEETING WHEN WE LEFT AND I KIND OF FEEL SAD THAT YOU FELT THAT IT DIDN'T GO AS WELL AS YOU HAD HOPED. WE, AS YOU CAN TELL AS A BOARD ARE VERY SUPPORTIVE, WE REALLY WANT THIS INCLUSIVENESS IN OUR COMMUNITY IT'S IMPORTANT TO US. AND I KNOW I'VE EVEN APPROACHED MY COMMUNITY ABOUT INCLUSIVENESS AND WHAT'S HAPPENING THERE.

SO I'M ON THE FACILITIES COMMITTEE AT HAREM BAY.

>> I APPRECIATE THAT. AND I THINK YOU BROUGHT UP SOME REALLY GREAT SUGGESTIONS. YOU'RE THE ONE WHO BROUGHT UP THE OLDER KIDS. AND I THINK THAT THAT WAS REALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE YES, WE CAN DO A LOT WITH THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS BUT THE OLDER ONES ARE THE ONES THAT ARE PROBABLY -- ON A REGULAR BASIS. BUT AGAIN I JUST THINK THAT WE NEED TO BUILD A BETTER FOUNDATION.

>> I COULD SEE HOW YOU COULD TAKE THAT AS MAYBE NOT AS A POSITIVE. BUT WHAT MY POINT WAS LIKE YOU SAID, THEY SAID THEY'RE IN THE SCHOOLS.

BUT WHAT MORE CAN WE DO? AND THAT WAS WHAT MY THING IS, OKAY, THEY'RE IN THE SCHOOL. BUT CAN WE DO A LITTLE BIT MORE.

>> YEAH, I THINK WE CAN DEFINITELY DO SOMETHING IN THAT AREA. I THINK MORE OF THE DISCOURAGEMENT CAME FROM OUR UNDERSTANDING THAT EVERYBODY FEELS NERVOUS WHEN THEY'RE PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE, THAT'S NOT THE POINT. THE POINT IS THAT THERE'S ALSO OTHER LAYERS TO THE SITUATION WHENEVER WE GET PULLED OVER BECAUSE THERE'S OTHER DYNAMICS IN PLAY.

SO I JUST WANTED EVERYBODY TO, I THINK WE NEED TO START FROM THAT LEVEL FIRST AND THEN MOVE FORWARD.

I'M TRYING TO BE OPEN AND TRANSPARENT.

>> WE WERE HOPING THAT YOU WOULD SAY THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO SOMEBODY AND WE DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN AGAIN IN OUR CITY.

THIS IS ABOUT THE CITY OF PARKLAND RIGHT NOW.

WE'RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WE CAN DO TO MAKE IT GOOD FOR US. AND THEN MAYBE WE CAN TEACH OTHER CITIES HOW TO DO IT THE RIGHT WAY IF WE COME UP WITH

SOME SORT OF PLATFORM. >> SURE.

>> I THINK THAT'S WHAT THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THAT MEETING WAS WAS

TO TRY TO GIVE SOME EXAMPLES. >> WE DID NOT KNOW YOU NEEDED

EXAMPLES IN THAT MEETING. >> NOT REALLY EXAMPLES BECAUSE THEY WERE RIGHT THERE, WE HAD THEIR EAR.

AND WE WERE HOPING THAT SOMEBODY, BECAUSE WE WERE HOPING A STORY COULD HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT MAYBE OPENED THEIR EARS UP A LITTLE BIT THAT THIS IS WHAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR CITY RIGHT

HERE. >> POINT TAKEN.

AND UNDERSTANDING THAT BETTER, WE WOULD BE MORE PREPARED.

I DON'T LIKE TO TELL SOMEBODY ELSE'S STORY.

I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE TELLING SOMEONE ELSE'S STORY.

I WANT HER TO TELL HER OWN STORY.

SEE WHAT I'M SAYING? >> AND I UNDERSTAND WE WERE HAVING THAT CONVERSATION AND WE WERE KIND OF REALIZING THROUGH THE STORIES THAT IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS HAPPENING WITHIN THE ASSOCIATIONS IN HOMEOWNERS MORE SO THAN WITH THE POLICE, BUT IF YOU ARE SAYING THERE ARE SOME ISSUES THAT ARE GOING ON, THEN THAT'S WHAT WE NEED TO BRING UP IN OUR NEXT

MEETING. >> THESE ARE NEIGHBORS MAKING CALLS TO LAW ENFORCEMENT. AND SO IT'S A MATTER OF HOW ARE THEY HANDLING THESE CALLS. AND I CAN GIVE YOU EXAMPLES OF HOW THEY ARE RESPONDING TO VERY SIMILAR CALLS.

I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE TELLING YOU SOMEONE ELSE'S STORY.

I WANT THEM TO TELL YOU THAT. >> CAN THEY BE AT THE MEETING?

>> THEY WILL BE THERE. >> AWESOME.

BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHAT, EVERYBODY NEEDS TO LEARN.

FOR THEM TO THINK THEY KNOW IT ALL, THEY DON'T KNOW IT ALL.

AND SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO LET THEM UNDERSTAND WHAT'S GOING ON

SO THEY CAN FIX THAT. >> UNDERSTOOD.

ABSOLUTELY. >> WE HAVE COMMISSIONERS AND MAYORS THAT CARE A LOT ABOUT THIS CITY.

AND I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT IF THEY KNOW THAT SOMETHING IS BROKEN, THEY'RE GOING TO MAKE SURE IT GETS FIXED.

>> I HAVE SPOKEN TO THEM AND I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU.

>> BEAUTIFUL. ANYBODY ELSE?

>> I JUST WANT TO SAY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE CONVERSATIONS.

I PERSONALLY WANT TO SAY THANK Y YOU. I'M THINKING ABOUT MAKING

CONNECTIONS. >> WHAT YOU WILL REALIZE TOO IS OUR GROUP IS VERY DIVERSE. I SENT IT TO THE WOMAN ON OUR GROUP THAT WAS JEWISH, SHE SENT IT TO HER FRIENDS AND THEN MY

[00:20:06]

COWORKERS. IT WAS A LOT OF -- HAPPY TO DO

THAT. >> THANK YOU.

[6. Comments by the Chair and Board]

ANYBODY ELSE? GO AHEAD AND COMMENTS BY THE CHAIR AND THE BOARD. OH ONE THING I WANTED TO SAY IS, SPEAKING OF THE COMMISSIONERS AND THE MAYOR, I WENT TO THE FARMERS MARKET OVER THE WEEKEND. AND I GOT TO SAY IT'S SO IMPERATIVE TO SEE THE COMMISSIONERS AND THE CITY PERSONNEL AND EVERYBODY AND THE MAYOR, EVERYWHERE I TURN, YOU GUYS ARE EVERYWHERE. I'VE NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE IN ANY OTHER CITY THAT I'VE EVER LIVED IN.

AND SOMEBODY SAID THAT TONIGHT OVER I THINK SHARRY EVEN MENTIONED TONIGHT OVER THERE FOR THE HOLOCAUST EVENT, YOU WERE ALL THERE AND PRESENT. AND IT JUST SHOWS YOU HOW MUCH YOU GUYS CARE FOR THE CITY. I SAY IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

BUT YOU'RE HERE TONIGHT 7:30, WHEN YOU WERE THERE NEXT DOOR.

IT'S AMAZING. YOU'RE THERE WITH YOUR FAMILIES TRYING TO ENJOY THE FARMERS MARKET.

AND I WATCH YOU GET STOPPED BY PERSON AFTER PERSON AFTER PERSON WITH ISSUES THEY TALK ABOUT. AND YOU'RE SITTING THERE COMFORTING THEM AND TRYING TO GET THEM TO UNDERSTAND THAT YOU'RE THERE FOR THEM AND YOU'RE TRYING TO COME UP WITH SOLUTIONS FOR THEM. WHILE YOU'RE THERE TRYING TO GET HONEY AT THE FARMERS MARKET. IT'S AMAZING.

I REALLY WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THAT.

ANYTHING ELSE? ONE THING I WANT TO SAY BEFORE WE GET STARTED, SHARRY, WHAT YOU DID TONIGHT NEXT DOOR WAS SIMPLY AMAZING. THE NO CHILD'S PLAY EXHIBIT YOU HAVE THERE, I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE THERE FOR ANOTHER MONTH AND HOW YOU PULLED THIS OFF TO GET SOMETHING THAT IS GOING AROUND THE WORLD AND PEOPLE ARE GOING TO SEE.

THEY SAY AS FAR AS THE 6 MILLION LIVES THAT WERE LOST, THERE WERE 6 MILLION VOICES HEARD TONIGHT THROUGH RUBY'S SINGING TONIGHT.

I REALLY WANT TO THANK YOU. MAYBE YOU CAN TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT BECAUSE THAT WAS AMAZING.

>> I WOULD BE HAPPY TOO BUT I DIDN'T DO IT ALONE.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE AND THE VILLAGE CONSISTED OF JACKIE AND MICHELLE FROM THE LIBRARY AND ALL OF THE FRIENDS FROM THE LIBRARY AND THE BOARD AND THE COMMISSION.

IT WAS A WORK IN PROGRESS, IT TOOK ABOUT EIGHT MONTHS.

IT'S ON LOAN FROM YAD VASHEM IN NEW YORK.

THIS MONTH IS HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MONTH.

AND JANUARY 27TH IS INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY. IF YOU MISSED THE GRAND OPENING OF THE EXHIBIT TONIGHT AND YOU MISSED THE HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR BAND WHICH IS AMAZING I MUST SAY, THERE ARE OTHER PROGRAMS THROUGH THE MONTH. THE BOOK CLUB IS GOING TO READ THE LAST CHECKMATE WHICH IS AN AMAZING BOOK OF HOW THEY ACTUALLY MADE TOYS DURING THE HOLOCAUST TO KEEP THEM ENGAGED AND KEEP THEIR HOPES UP. IT'S AN INSPIRING BOOK.

ON THE 19TH AT 6:00 P.M. EAGLES HAVEN IS COMING TO TALK ABOUT RESILIENCY WITH THE COMMUNITY. YOU CAN REGISTER FOR THESE PROGRAMS ON THE LIBRARY WEBSITE. ON THE 20TH OF 4:00 P.M., EAGLES HAVEN IS GOING TO BE FACILITATING PAINTING WHERE WE LOOK AT TIMES IN OUR LIVES WHERE WE TURN TO ART OR MUSIC OR GAMES TO TRY AND GET THROUGH. ON THE 22ND THERE WILL BE A FILM AND DISCUSSION WITH A HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR AT 2:00 P.M. AND THE FILM IS THE MOVIE PAPER CLIPS. AND IT'S AN ACADEMY AWARD WINNING FILM. WON MANY AWARDS.

IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE PAPER CLIPS, TRY TO ATTEND THAT EVENT. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

I'VE SHOWN THIS FILM IN MY CLASSROOM OVER THE YEARS AT LEAST 30 TIMES. AND I CRY EVERY SINGLE TIME I WATCH IT. IT'S A STORY ABOUT TEACHERS IN WHITWELL, TENNESSEE WHERE THERE'S NO DIVERSITY.

TALKING ABOUT NO DIVERSITY THERE.

AND THESE TEACHERS WERE DETERMINED TO TEACH THE

[00:25:01]

COMMUNITY ABOUT DIVERSITY. THEY STARTED STUDYING THE HOLOCAUST AND THEY LEARNED THAT DURING THE HOLOCAUST, RESISTERS WOULD WEAR A PAPER CLIP ON THEIR LAPEL TO SHOW THAT THEY STAND FOR HUMAN RIGHTS. AND SO THE TEACHERS AND THE STUDENTS DECIDED TO COLLECT 6 MILLION PAPER CLIPS AND THEY WOUND UP COLLECTING 1.5 MILLION FOR ALL OF THE CHILDREN THAT WERE KILLED DURING THE HOLOCAUST.

AND THEY WERE ABLE TO GET A REAL RAILWAY CAR FROM GERMANY IMPORTED TO WHITWELL, TENNESSEE TO STORE THEM AND CREATE A MUSEUM AT THEIR SCHOOL SITE. IT'S A REMARKABLE STORY.

THE HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS THAT HELPED FACILITATE ALL OF THIS BECAME VERY DEAR FRIENDS OF THE COMMUNITY.

AND SO AGAIN IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE LIBRARY TO SEE THE FILM AT 2:00 ON THE 22ND, YOU CAN ALWAYS SEE IT ON YOUR OWN.

I OWN A COPY, I GOT ON AMAZON, IT WAS LIKE $20, WELL WORTH IT.

SO THE LAST OPPORTUNITY THIS MONTH ON THE 27TH AT 4:00 P.M., THAT IS INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE AND CRAIG WINER WHO IS THE FOUNDER OF THE HOLOCAUST REFLECTION AND RESOURCE CENTER IS COMING TO PARKLAND TO THE LIBRARY TO HAVE A DISCUSSION ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST AND TO LIGHT A MEMORY CANDLE TO HONOR ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO PERISHED DURING THE HOLOCAUST.

IF YOU MISSED THE GRAND OPENING TONIGHT, THAT'S OKAY THERE ARE A LOT OF OTHER OPPORTUNITIES. AND THE EXHIBIT WILL BE AT THE LIBRARY FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH OF JANUARY.

YOU CAN GO THROUGH AND SEE THE PICTURES AND READ FOR YOURSELF.

AND IT'S A VERY ATYPICAL EXHIBIT BECAUSE IT'S NOT ONE WHERE THERE'S ANYTHING SCARY OR CREEPY OR CAN BE CONSIDERED IN ANY WAY OFFENSIVE. IT'S PHOTOGRAPHS OF TOYS AND CHILDREN PLAYING WITH TOYS. BEGINNING, MIDDLE, AND END OF THAT TIME PERIOD. YOU CAN SEE THE CHILDREN, THEY LOOK CHUBBY AND THEY LOOK HAPPY AND THEIR TOYS ARE CLEAN AND THEN A YEAR LATER THINGS ARE DIFFERENT AS IT PROGRESSES, BUT IT FOCUSES ON THE TOYS THAT THEY USE TO TRY TO FEEL NORMAL DURING A NOT NORMAL TIME PERIOD. THIS IS ESPECIALLY RELEVANT TO PARKLAND. THIS IS A COMMUNITY WHERE THE CHILDREN HERE TURNED TRAGEDY INTO ADVOCACY AND THEY TURNED PAIN INTO MUSIC AND THEY TURNED THEIR PAIN INTO POETRY AND ARTWORK. AND THE PARENTS DID VERY MUCH THE SAME. I SEE PARKLAND AS THE COMMUNITY WHERE PEOPLE ARE A LITTLE MORE CARING, A LITTLE MORE PROTECTIVE AND THOUGHTFUL AND A LITTLE MORE SENSITIVE TO OTHERS.

AND I'M PROUD TO BE A PARKLANDER.

BUT THE EXHIBIT RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET AT THE LIBRARY IS REALLY AN EXPRESSION OF GRIT, RESILIENCE, HOPE, SURVIVORSHIP AND DETERMINATION TO FIND NORMALCY EVEN IN THE DARKEST OF TIMES WHETHER SURVIVING A PANDEMIC, THE LOSS OF A LOVED ONE, A TRAGEDY, A CRIME, A WAR OR A HOLOCAUST.

SEARCHING TO FEEL NORMAL WHEN LIFE'S EXPERIENCE BRINGS YOU A CHALLENGE THAT YOU ARE NOT SURE YOU HAVE THE WILL TO ENDURE, THAT'S THE THEME FOR THE EXHIBIT ACROSS THE STREET.

FINDING A WAY, A MEANS, AN OUTLET THAT EXHIBITS YOU TO CARRY ON. THAT'S THE THEME AND MOST PEOPLE CAN RELATE TO ESPECIALLY IN OUR BEAUTIFUL CITY OF PARKLAND.

I HOPE YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT AND HAVE A WALK THROUGH. THAT'S ABOUT IT.

>> KENDRA, ANYTHING? >> I WAS THERE FOR PART OF IT AND I BROUGHT MY MOTHER AND MY FRIEND.

AND I KNOW MY FRIEND WAS TEXTING HER SON SAYING YOU'VE GOT TO SEE THIS, SO I THINK IT WAS REALLY GREAT, THANK YOU.

>> IT IS ABOUT DIVERSITY INCLUSION BY THE WAY.

>> I JUST WANT TO SAY I THINK THE COMMISSION AND THE MAYOR AT PARKLAND IS EXTRAORDINARILY ACCESSIBLE.

I AGREE WITH WHAT YOU SAID THERE.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE VIDEOS I JUST RECENTLY SAW WERE THE OUTTAKES OF THE MAYOR'S FACEBOOK THINGS. IF YOU GET A CHANCE TO SEE IT, THEY'RE PRETTY FUNNY. ESPECIALLY WATCHING THEM GO DOWN THE NEW SLIDE AT THE PARK. BUT I'M REALLY FAVORABLY IMPRESSED WITH THE, IT'S KILLING ME, WITH THE NEW PARK IMPROVEMENTS. VISITED THEM, THEY LOOK AWESOME.

AND LIKE I WAS TELLING THE ROUNDABOUT IS EXTRAORDINARY.

I FEEL MUCH SAFER DRIVING DOWN UNIVERSITY AND LOOKING FORWARD

TO THE NEW ONES. >> EXCELLENT.

[00:30:11]

ANGELICA. >>.

>> THANK YOU TO YOUR LEADERSHIP. THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE STAFF INVOLVED TO HELP BRING THAT EXHIBIT HERE.

IT SOUNDS SO TREMENDOUS. I CAN'T WAIT TO SHARE WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE AND GO WITH MY KIDS AND EXPERIENCE AND WALK AROUND.

I'M EXCITED TO TELL YOU HOW THEY REACT.

IT'S REALLY INCREDIBLE. I LOVE HOW ACCESSIBLE IT MAKES NOT ONLY AN APPROXIMATE SENSE HERE IN OUR COMMUNITY BUT THE WAY THE EXHIBIT IS PRESENTED IS ACCESSIBLE IN THE SENSE THAT IT'S DIGESTIBLE AND RELATABLE. SO I JUST THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I REALLY CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THAT. JUST A COUPLE OF OTHER THINGS ALSO. I WANT TO SAY FOR SOMEBODY WHO LIVES VERY CLOSE TO THE PARK, BEAUTIFUL PLAYGROUND.

WE'RE ENJOYING IT. WE'RE SO GLAD IT'S OPEN.

THANK YOU. JUST ANOTHER QUICK THING.

IT WAS A PRETTY SHOCKING EVENT. BUT MY DAUGHTER'S TEACHER'S HUSBAND HAD A HEART ATTACK AT THE PARK WHILE HE WAS COACHING SOCCER. AND ONE OF THE PARK RANGERS DID CPR. AND I JUST CANNOT TELL YOU WHAT A PROFOUND APPRECIATION I HAVE FOR OUR PARK RANGERS AFTER THAT EVENT BECAUSE IT WAS REALLY WHAT SAVED HIS LIFE UNTIL THE PARAMEDICS COULD COME. I DON'T KNOW IF THERE'S A SPECIAL WAY TO MAKE A THANK YOU FOR THAT PARK RANGER.

I'M SURE ANY ONE OF THEM WOULD STEP IN.

I JUST WANTED TO BRING THAT TO THE TABLE.

IT WAS JUST A REALLY WILD AND CRAZY THING.

BUT THE FAMILY THEY'RE RECOVERING AND THANK GOD.

JUST FINALLY AGAIN I KNOW THAT THIS IS PUBLIC AT THIS POINT.

A FEW YEARS AGO SOME OF US BEGAN TO SORT OF ADVOCATE AND EXPLORE OPTIONS TO HAVE A CROSSWALK, SOME SORT OF A PEDESTRIAN CROSSWALK OVER HILLSBOROUGH THAT WOULD CONNECT COMMUNITIES SO THAT THEY COULD SAFELY CROSS THE STREET WITH THEIR CHILDREN TO GO TO THE PARK. OBVIOUSLY SO MANY OF US COME FOR MANY REASONS. AND WE FIND, IT'S ONE THING IF YOU'RE AN ADULT CROSSING OVER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET.

WE FIND WHEN YOU HAVE KIDS, THERE'S DIFFERENT TURNING LANES.

YOU'RE NAVIGATING FOUR LANES, TWO LANES IN EACH DIRECTION.

AND SO WE HAD REACHED OUT TO THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT AND THEY HAD DONE A TRAFFIC STUDY. AND THIS IS IN 2019.

WHAT IS THE PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC THAT HAPPENS ON DIFFERENT TIMES AND DIFFERENT DAYS. AND BASICALLY IT WAS KIND OF A PROJECT. AND AT THAT POINT WE FAILED THE TRAFFIC STUDY. UNFORTUNATELY WE DIDN'T MEET THAT THRESHOLD EVEN THOUGH ANECDOTALLY I CAN TELL YOU IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO DRIVE. SO RECENTLY THIS HAS RESURFACED AGAIN. SO ACTUALLY MY NEIGHBOR I KIND OF WALKED HER THROUGH WHAT HAPPENED A FEW YEARS AGO AND SHE JUST MOVED IN THIS SUMMER. HER NAME IS DEBORAH WATERS.

AND SHE ACTUALLY WENT AHEAD, AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

WE REACHED OUT TO HIM. MAYBE SOME SORT OF A PETITION WOULD BE VALUABLE IN THIS CONVERSATION.

I DON'T KNOW THAT IT WOULD END UP IN ANYTHING.

BUT I THINK AT LEAST IT COULD SHOW THAT THERE IS A NEED FOR THIS IN OUR COMMUNITY. SO THERE IS A PETITION THAT'S AVAILABLE. I'M HAPPY TO SHARE THE LINK WITH EVERYBODY. THERE'S GOING TO BE A ROUND ABOUT IN THAT AREA AND THAT MAY HELP REDUCE SOME OF THE TRAFFIC AND THE SPEED SOME OF THE CARS WERE DRIVING.

WE WERE STILL HOPING THAT DESPITE THE ROUNDABOUT THAT THERE COULD STILL BE SOME PLACE PEDESTRIANS COULD CROSS SAFELY WHO LIVE ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE PARK SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO

[00:35:01]

WALK HALF A MILE TO GO TO THE ROUNDABOUT AND THEN CROSS AND THEN COME BACK TO THE PARK. SO I JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT

WITH EVERYBODY. >> THANK YOU.

FIRST I WANT TO WISH EVERYBODY A HAPPY NEW YEAR AND HOPEFULLY THIS YEAR WILL BE BETTER. SO WE HAVE TO THINK POSITIVELY ABOUT THAT. I DO WANT TO COMMEND MY COLLEAGUE SHARRY ON A WONDERFUL PRESENTATION TODAY.

IT REMINDED ME OF ANOTHER CITY WITH A P IN IT, PRAGUE.

AND WE DIDN'T REALLY HAVE TO TRAVEL THAT FAR TO UNDERSTAND AND TO SEE ARTIFACTS ESPECIALLY IN THE LIVES OF CHILDREN.

THAT WAS DIFFICULT TO SEE. BUT THOSE WHO HAD TRAVELED TO PRAGUE WOULD KNOW WHAT I'M SPEAKING OF.

ALSO I WOULD LOVE TO COMMEND THE COMMISSION FOR THE LATEST COMMUNITY LANDMARK THAT WE HAVE, COVID TESTING SITE.

IT'S OPERATIONAL, IT'S NEEDED, IT'S NECESSARY.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BRINGING THAT TO OUR CITY.

AND IF YOU PASS BY, YOU SEE IT'S ORGANIZED.

IT'S NOT THAT CROWDED, BUT IT MOVES AND THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING

THAT TO COME TO OUR CITY. >> VERY GOOD.

RUPERT? >> GOOD NIGHT TO EVERYONE.

I ACTUALLY GOT TESTED AT THE ONE ON 9TH STREET.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THEIR EFFORT.

I HAVE ONE ISSUE, BUT FIRST LET ME THANK TANIKA FOR KEEPING THE ISSUE ALIVE AND HELPING ORGANIZE THE MEETING.

LIVING IN BETWEEN TWO SCHOOLS, AND EVERY MORNING AND AFTERNOON IT'S BEDLAM REGARDING CARS GOING IN.

YEARS AGO WE GOT THE CITY TO PUT UP A TRAFFIC LIGHT.

THEY TRIED TO DIVERT THE CARS AROUND THE STREET AND AROUND.

THERE WAS SOMETHING THAT COULD BE DONE TO REDUCE THE TRAFFIC INTO PARKLAND. IS THERE A DROP OFF STUDENTS AND PICK UP STUDENTS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT COULD BE DONE, BUT I PROMISED THAT I WOULD BRING IT UP AT THIS MEETING AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN GET THE COMMISSION TO KEEP TALKING ABOUT

IT. >> YOU'VE GOT TWO GOOD EARS

[00:40:01]

SITTING HERE RIGHT NOW THAT JUST LISTENED TO EVERYTHING YOU HAD TO SAY. IS THERE ANYBODY IN PARTICULAR THAT HE COULD MAYBE SEND AN EMAIL TO THAT COULD MAYBE GET

THE PROCESS LOOKED INTO. >> DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES AND LIBRARY. I WOULD SAY CAPTAIN CALVETTA OVER AT BSO, HOWEVER I'VE TAKEN NOTE OF WHAT YOU'VE JUST DESCRIBED AND WE CAN HAVE A DISCUSSION WITH BSO AND MENTION TO THEM THE ISSUES THAT YOU'RE HAVING.

WE CAN START THE BALL ROLLING FROM THERE.

>> CARA, ANYTHING TO SAY? OKAY.

>> HELLO? >> YES, IT'S ON.

>> WE JUST RECENTLY CLOSED REGISTRATION FOR PARKLAND LITTLE LEAGUE. WE HAVE A RECORD NUMBER OF PLAYERS SIGNED UP THIS YEAR. WE'RE GOING TO HAVE 40 TEAMS. WE'LL BE STARTING MID-FEBRUARY FOR PRACTICES.

AND WE CAN'T WAIT. I KNOW WE'VE BEEN TOLD THERE'S A SMALL DELAY IN GETTING THE FIELDS, TURNING THE FIELDS GREEN. THERE'S TWO FIELDS AND FIVE BATTING CAGES. SO WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO

SEEING THAT. >> CAN I GET A MOTION TO APPROVE

[7. Approval of the Agenda]

THE AGENDA? >> SO MOVED.

>> SECOND. >> ALL IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY

SAYING AYE. >> AYE.

[8. New Business]

>> ANYONE OPPOSED? SHOWS UNANIMOUSLY.

UP NEXT NEW BUSINESS. JACKIE, I THINK WE HAVE TWO THINGS TO COVERAGE. THE CAB SCHOLARSHIP AND ALLSTATE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE SELECTION AND ALSO PARK DAYS 60TH

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION. >> JACKIE WAYNE MEYER FOR THE RECORD. I'M GOING TO CONTINUE AND GIVE YOU SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS.

FIRST I'D LIKE TO THANK LISA MALONE WHO'S HERE FOR MANAGING THIS PROCESS AGAIN THIS YEAR. SHE KEEPS THESE APPLICATIONS GOING AND SHE KEEPS EVERYTHING STRUCTURED SO THAT IT'S EASY FOR YOU TO BE ABLE TO REVIEW THEM AND MAKE A GOOD DECISION.

THE APPLICATION PACKETS WERE SENT TO THE SCHOOLS IN NOVEMBER.

THE DEADLINE TO RECEIVE THE APPLICATIONS IS JANUARY 28TH.

AND WHAT YOU ALL WILL NEED TO DO IS SELECT PEOPLE FOR TWO SUBCOMMITTEES. ONE OF THEM WOULD BE TO REVIEW THE APPLICATIONS AND SCORE THEM. AND THE OTHER WOULD BE TO CONDUCT THE INTERVIEWS. SO FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO WOULD BE REVIEWING THE APPLICATIONS AND SCORING THEM, THOSE WOULD BE SENT FOR REVIEW BY FEBRUARY 15TH.

AND THEN THE SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 21ST TO THE 25TH. SO KNOWING THOSE DATES MIGHT HELP YOU IN MAKING A SELECTION IN WHAT SUBCOMMITTEE YOU WANT TO SERVE ON. THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS WILL BE PRESENTED BY THE COMMISSION AT THE APRIL 6TH CITY COMMISSION MEETING. THE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE USING THE SAME CRITERIA AS LAST YEAR. AND THE CRITERIA FOR THE CAB SCHOLARSHIPS ARE OPEN TO ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN PARKLAND AND THE CRITERIA FOR THE ALLSTATE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE THAT THEY'RE OPEN FOR ALL STUDENTS AT MARJORY STONEMAN DOUGLAS.

THAT'S ALL I HAVE. DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ON OUR

PROCESS? >> WHAT ARE THE TWO DATES AGAIN?

>> THE DEADLINE TO RECEIVE THE APPLICATION IS JANUARY 28TH.

>> OKAY. >> THE SCHOLARSHIP PACKAGE WILL BE SENT TO YOU ALL FEBRUARY 1ST. THE PACKET SELECTED TO BE INTERVIEWED, THAT FIRST SUBCOMMITTEE THAT WOULD BE FEBRUARY 15TH. AND THEN THE INTERVIEWS HELD THE

WEEK OF FEBRUARY 21-25. >> OKAY.

YOU WANT US TO GIVE YOU NAMES TONIGHT, I GUESS WE SHOULD GET IT DONE NOW BECAUSE LAST YEAR, WHO WAS ON THE INTERVIEW BOARD? EXCELLENT. SO I THINK WE SHOULD SWAP IT BECAUSE I WOULD LOVE THEM TO SEE THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THAT.

BECAUSE WHEN THEY SEE THESE APPLICATIONS, THEY'RE GOING TO

[00:45:01]

BE SO IMPRESSED. I'M SURE LISA CAN TELL YOU.

I'VE BEEN DOING THIS, I WAS ON THE EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD FOR MANY YEARS. AND IT'S AMAZING AND I'M SURE YOU'VE ALL SEEN BOTH SIDES OF IT.

BUT IF YOU HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO SEE THE ACTUAL APPLICATIONS THAT COME IN AND SEE THE COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS THESE KIDS DO AND SEE, I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A FIVE POINT SOMETHING WAS GROWING UP. THESE GPAS THESE KIDS HAVE NOWADAYS IS UNBELIEVABLE. AND THEN I GUESS THOSE THAT WERE ON THE INTERVIEW WILL GO TO THE APPLICATION.

THOSE THAT DID THE APPLICATIONS LAST YEAR WILL GO ON THE INTERVIEW. SO I WOULD LOVE TO BE BECAUSE I THINK I'LL GO ON THE INTERVIEW THIS YEAR.

I GUESS THEY'LL DO THE APPLICATIONS AND THEN I GUESS IT WILL BE ME, CARA, I GUESS DENISE AND WHO ELSE? IT WOULD BE SHARRY THAT CAN DO THE INTERVIEW.

WHO ELSE? SO YOU'LL BE ON THE INTERVIEW.

SO WE'LL HAVE I THINK THE FIVE OF US FOR THE INTERVIEWS AND THEN THE FOUR OF THEM. AND IF THEY NEED MORE HELP DOING THE APPLICATION AND THE SCORING, THEN I CAN ALWAYS HELP OUT WITH THAT AS WELL. BECAUSE I ENJOY DOING THAT AS

WELL. >> THAT'S WONDERFUL, THANK YOU.

>> PERFECT. >> ONE THING IF I COULD ADD, I REALLY LOVE BEING ON THE INTERVIEW PROCESS.

BUT I WONDERED IF THERE WAS SOME OTHER CRITERIA OR SOME KIND OF A THING THAT WE COULD SET UP. BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY AMBIGUOUS. AND ESPECIALLY NOW THAT I'M GOING TO BE DOING THE EVALUATION OF THE ACTUAL APPLICATIONS.

IS THERE A CRITERIA OR A SHEET OR A SCORING THING THAT MAYBE

YOU HAVE OR -- >> YOU'LL HAVE THAT.

YOU'LL GET IT WHEN YOU GET THE APPLICATION, THEY'LL ALSO GIVE

YOU A SCORE SHEET. >> OKAY.

>> AND IT'S PRETTY SELF-EXPLANATORY, ONCE YOU GET

IT. >> OKAY, PERFECT.

>> OKAY. >> THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

AND THE PARKLAND DAYS, OUR 60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION COMING UP. SO THE PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD SUBCOMMITTEE FOR THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY, THEY'VE BEEN MEETING REGARDING PARKLAND DAYS.

AND THEY'VE DECIDED THAT THE EVENT WILL BE THE SECOND SATURDAY OF MARCH IN 2023. THEY'VE STARTED TALKING ABOUT SOME OF THE ELEMENTS OF THE CELEBRATION.

SO THEY'RE LOOKING AT A PARADE IN THE MORNING WITH A ROUTE THAT STARTS AROUND HERON HEIGHTS, GOES DOWN PINE ISLAND ROAD DOWN TO THE PARK. AND THEY WERE LOOKING SOMETHING THAT WOULD GO TO THE PARK AND BE THE LEAST INTRUSIVE TRAFFIC WISE FOR OUR RESIDENTS. LATER IN THE DAY LOOKING AT A CELEBRATION AT THE AMPHITHEATER, THINGS LIKE A CONCERT AND SOME FOOD. BUT BECAUSE WE DEFINITELY NEED TO TIE THE HISTORICAL ELEMENT TO THE CITY'S BIRTHDAY, THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE HISTORICAL SUBCOMMITTEE TO ATTEND THIS OTHER SUBCOMMITTEE'S NEXT MEETING.

AND THAT MEETING IS JANUARY 26TH AT 5:30 AT THE AMPHITHEATER.

BUT WE'RE URGING EVERYBODY TO ATTEND SO THAT WE CAN GET YOUR INPUT ON WHAT KINDS OF HISTORIC ELEMENTS WE CAN INCORPORATE.

PERHAPS THERE'S SOME HISTORICAL DISPLAYS AT A PARADE, PERHAPS A FLOAT THAT IS OF A HISTORICAL NATURE.

AND BECAUSE THE GROUPS ALREADY A PART OF THE 60TH, THE PORTAL PROJECT WILL DEFINITELY BE HIGHLIGHTED AT THE CELEBRATION WITH SOME ACTIVITIES THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THAT.

BUT WE DEFINITELY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE GET THAT HISTORICAL INPUT SO THAT THAT IS HIGHLIGHTED IN THE CELEBRATION.

>> PERFECT. >> WILL THE SCHOOLS BE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CELEBRATION? WHETHER THE PARADE OR SOME ACTIVITY?

>> I WILL DEFINITELY CHECK BACK WITH THE SUBCOMMITTEE.

BUT I'M SURE THEY WOULD BE. >> OKAY, GREAT.

SO I GUESS THAT DOES IT FOR THE NEW BUSINESS.

[9. Old Business]

WE CAN MOVE ON TO THE OLD BUSINESS.

AND WITH THAT, THAT'S THE UPDATE FOR THE INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY SUBCOMMITTEE WHICH WE KIND OF COVERED ALREADY.

THE ONLY THING I WANT TO ADD TO THAT IS TANIKA, THE NEXT MEETING, I KNOW WE HAD THIS DISCUSSION ALREADY.

I DON'T WANT TO GO INTO IT WITH YOU HAVING TO PROVE ANYTHING.

I WANT TO GO INTO THE NEXT MEETING AS HOW CAN WE SOLVE IT, OKAY? SUGGESTIONS, TEACH US, OKAY? BECAUSE I THINK THAT'S WHAT WE NEED RIGHT NOW.

WE NEED SOLUTIONS. BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THERE'S A

[00:50:03]

PROBLEM, I CAN TELL BY YOUR PASSION.

LET'S GET PAST THAT PART NOW AND FIGURE OUT HOW WE FIX IT.

ALL RIGHT. THEN THE NEXT THING WE HAVE THE STAFF UPDATE FOR THE HISTORICAL PRESERVATION PROJECT.

>> SO AS YOU KNOW, THE PORTALS OF PARKLAND PAST PROJECT KICKED OFF IN DECEMBER. INFORMATIONAL PACKETS WERE SENT OFF TO INVITE OUR SEVENTH GRADERS TO APPLY AND PARTICIPATE IN THE PROJECT. THOSE APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BACK BY MARCH 18TH. SO THE SELECTION OF CAB MEMBERS WHO WISH TO SERVE ON THAT APPLICATION COMMITTEE, WE WOULD HAVE THAT DURING YOUR MARCH MEETING.

THE CITY IS WORKING WITH A COMPANY RIGHT NOW TO ASSIST WITH THE GIS PORTION OF THE PROJECT. AND THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND THE SUBCOMMITTEE SHOULD HAVE A FUTURE MEETING TO DISCUSS THE DESIGN OF THE SIGN WHICH IS ALREADY UNDERWAY, THOSE DISCUSSIONS. BUT WE'RE REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO HAVING OUR SEVENTH GRADERS WORKING ON THIS PROJECT.

>> EXCELLENT. >> I SAW THE MAP OF WHERE THINGS ARE. IT'S PRETTY INTERESTING BECAUSE I'M GOING TO TAKE MY KIDS BY AND SEE ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT THINGS. YOU WOULDN'T EVEN THINK ANY OF THIS EVEN EXISTED. THAT'S WHY THESE KIDS NEED TO

LEARN ABOUT IT. >> ABSOLUTELY.

>> VERY IMPORTANT, GOT TO KEEP THE HISTORY ALIVE IN THIS CITY.

SO ANY COMMENTS FROM THE STAFF? >> NONE OTHER THAN WHAT WE'VE

PROVIDED TONIGHT, THANK YOU. >> ALL RIGHT, BEAUTIFUL.

I WANT TO THANK EVERYBODY FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT.

SORRY FOR THE LATE MEETING BUT IT WAS WELL WORTH IT.

SHARRY AND JACKIE AND EVERYBODY ELSE DID AT THE LIBRARY WAS AMAZING. NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD ON MARCH 8, 2022, AT OUR REGULAR TIME OF 6:00.

WITH THAT BEING SAID, CAN I GET A MOTION TO ADJOURN.

AND A SECOND? >> I SECOND, SHARRY.

>> EVERYBODY IN FAVOR SAY AYE. >> AYE.

>> ANYONE OPPOSED? WE ARE NOW ADJOURNED.

THAN
