I WANTED TO FOCUS MY COMMENTS THIS EVENING ON A VERY SPECIAL EXPERIENCE THAT MOST OF US ALL BUT SHARED OVER THE PAST WEEKEND WHICH WAS GETTING THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE WITH OUR LOCAL FIRE-FIGHTERS AND EMS AND PARTICIPATE IN THEIR FIRE OP IT IS TRAINING. I KNOW THAT MAY NOT SOUND LIKE SOMETHING WORTHY OF AN ENTIRE COMMENT BUT IT WAS. AND I WANT TO RELAY WHY, WHICH IS ONE, I THINK MANY PEOPLE TAKE FOR GRANTED WHAT LAW ENFORCEMENT AND HEALTH AND RESCUE DO, BECAUSE IT'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT'S ALWAYS THERE. IT'S SOMETHING THAT'S KIND OF A KNOWN THING, THAT WHETHER YOU SEE IT ON YOUR DAY OH DAY EXPERIENCE OR NOT, IT'S THERE. BUT TO BE ABLE TO GO BEHIND THE SCENES AND GET A DEEPER DIVE INTO WHAT IT IS THAT MEES MEN AND WOMEN DO EVERYDAY, AND THE ACTUAL RISK THEY TAKE IN THE NAME OF KEEPING OUR CITY SAFE IS REALLY AN EXTRAORDINARY THING. AND I WANTED TO REALLY JUST TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ONE, THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO, AND TWO, ALSO THANK OUR CITY BECAUSE IT SHOWS THAT THE AMOUNT THAT WE'VE INVESTED IN THE SAFETY AND HEALTH OF OUR CITY. THIS ISN'T JUST A RUN OF THE MILL DEPARTMENT. IT IS AN AWARD WINNING, TOP OF THE LINE, EXTREMELY WELL RUN AND TO THE [00:10:01] POINT THAT IT'S NOT JUST THE WORK THEY DO, IT'S HOW THEY DO IT. AND THE COMRADERY THEY ALL SHARED WAS INCREDIBLE TO SEE AND I THINK ALL OF US ARE VERY FORTUNATE WHETHER WE ACKNOWLEDGE IT EVERYDAY OR NOT, TO HAVE THEM LOOKING AFTER US. I WANT TO TAKE THE TIME TO AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR THE EXPERIENCE, I'M NOT GOING TO GO SO FAR AS TO SAY, ESPECIALLY WITH BOTH OF YOU HERE, WHETHER THE TRAINING WAS BETTER THAN BSO'S ACTIVE FIRE SHOOTING TRAINING, BUT, I REALLY JUST WANTED TO CONVEY MY SINCERE APRECIATION. I WILL HAVE A TOTALLY NOW FOUND PERSPECTIVE, AND IN FACT, JUST THE OTHER DAY, IT HIT ME, DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, I SAW ON 441, A BAD ACCIDENT, AND I SAW A FIRE TRUCK WITH A NUMBER OF AMBULANCES THERE, THE NORMAL THING YOU DO, LOOK GOING BY AND I SAW THERE WAS AN AIR COMPRESSOR, WHICH I ACTUALLY LEARNED THEY WERE USING THE JAWS OF LIFE TO REMOVE PEOPLE FROM A CAR. THESE ARE PEOPLE THAT SIGNED UP FOR A JOB NOT JUST FOR A PAYCHECK BUT BECAUSE THEY TRULY BELIEVE IN THE MISSION OF HELPING AND MAKING SURE THAT OUR PEOPLE ARE SAFE IN OUR COMMUNITY. I THINK WE ALL RECOGNIZE THAT IT'S VERY RARE FOR PEOPLE TO GET THE BEHIND THE SCENES LOOK, BUT I'M GRATEFUL FOR IT AND THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO. I WANT TO THANK OUR CITY FOR CONTINUING TO RECOGNIZE THE AUTISM THOSE WHO ARE IN THE AUTISM COMMUNITY, AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH IS ALL OVER THE NATION, BUT OUR CITY IS TAKING AN INORDINATE EFFORT TO BECOME AN AUTISM-FRIENDLY CITY. AND TO THOSE WATCHING FOR THE FIRST TIME, REALIZING THAT IT'S SOMETHING THAT I'M VERY PROUD OF WITH THE CITY OF PARKLAND. TODAY AND EVERYDAY WE WEAR BLUE IN SUPPORT OF THOSE WITH AUTISM BUT ESPECIALLY IN PARKLAND WHERE WE HAVE A HEART AND GENUINE PASSION FOR MAKING PARKLAND AN AUTISM FRIENDLY CITY. I WOULD LIKE TO REMIND ALL OF OUR RESIDENTS THAT WE HAVE UPCOMING FARMER'S MARKET INCLUDING THE BUSINESS EXPO. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOUR CITY STAFF, OUR PARKS AND REC DEPARTMENT FOR THE AMAZING EVENTS THAT WERE LAST WEEKEND FOR THE EXTRAVAGANZA AND THE DRIVE-IN. IT IS, EVERY TIME TO HEAR FROM A RESIDENT WHO HAS ATTENDED ONE OF THESE EVENTS, IT BRINGS HOME THE NOTION WE'RE A BIG TOWN WITH A SMALL-TOWN HEART. PARKLAND IS A SPECIAL PLACE EVEN CONSIDERED AGAINST OTHER COMMUNITIES IN BROWARD AND I THINK WE NEED TO CONTINUE DOING WHAT WE'RE DOING, MAYBE TURN UP THE VOLUME AT TIMES CANS BUT CONTINUING TO SHOWCASE THE HEART AND SENSE OF COMMUNITY THAT WE HAVE HERE IN PARKLAND BECAUSE I THINK IT'S SECOND TO NONE. WE WANT EVERYBODY TO KNOW HOW MUCH WE SUPPORT THE PROPOSAL TO RENAME THE HILLS BORROW PINELAND NATURAL AREA FOR HER 16 YEARS OF SERVICE TO BROWARD COUNTY AS COMMISSIONER DEDICATION. PROVIDE PROMINENT AND LASTING RECOGNITION OF HER ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP TO THE RESIDENTS THEY REPRESENTING. GIVEN THE MAYBE FEATURES OF THE SPECIFIC PROGRAMS AND PRINCIPALS. THE MANY LISTS OF IMPACTFUL ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES LED BY HER WILL UNDICTEDLY PROVIDE LASTING POSITIVE BENEFITS FOR ALL IN BROWARD COUNTY, AND IT'S JUST DOWN THE STREET FROM OUR CITY. IT WOULD BE A GREAT HONOR FOR THOSE WHO KNEW HER AND EFFECTED BY HER TIRELESS EFFORTS TO RECOGNIZE HER LEGACY OF SERVICE BY THE RENAMING ONE OF BROWARD COUNTY'S UNIQUE AREAS. I WANT TO EXPRESS TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT I WANT THIS RENAMING TO BRING THEM PEACE AND COMFORT. THE CITY APPROVED THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF LOX, THE CITY REACH OUT TO BROWARD COUNTY AND THE BROWARD MPO FOR FUNDING ASSISTANCE. WHILE THIS PROCESS TOOK MANY YEARS, ON MARCH 3RD OF THIS YEAR, SO WE'RE GOING BACK FROM 2013 TO THIS YEAR, WITH THE [00:50:03] COMMISSION'S APPROVAL THE CITY EXECUTED THE FUNDING AGREEMENT WITH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. THE OVERALL PROJECT WILL COST ROUGHLY $20 MILLION, THE CITY'S PORTION WILL BE ROUGHLY $2 MILLION. THE DIFFERENCE IS THE COST THAT WE HAD TO WAIT FOR THE IT STATE. THE PROJECT'S DESIGN PHASE WILL RESUME THIS SUMMER AND CONSTRUCTION WILL BEGIN IN RATE 2022 OR EARLY '23 SO, AGAIN, THAT'S TALK ABOUT PATIENCE.
